The performer also became famous as a composer and author of soundtracks for popular films. She has memorable songs for the TV series “Soldiers”, “Students”, “The Lavrova Method” and a dozen other top-rated film projects.

Critics greet Utah's new albums with interest because the singer does not repeat herself, appearing in a new image each time. And fans of all ages enjoy attending the performer’s concerts, receiving a huge charge of energy, love and positivity.

Childhood and youth

Anna Vladimirovna Semina was born in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) in the summer of 1979 into a creative family. The mother of the future performer Utah is an opera singer, so classical music became a kind of background for Anna’s childhood and youth. Parents, noticing the musical abilities of their little daughter, sent her to learn to play the flute. The girl took the course and at the age of 11 began to learn a new instrument - the piano. At the same age, Anya began to sing, shocking her mother: her daughter gave preference not to the classics, but to chanson, revered in the working-class quarter of Sverdlovsk, where the family lived.

His passion for music was not the only one: Utah attended the swimming pool and rhythmic gymnastics classes. But the genes won: the daughter focused on musical creativity. The girl became so interested in the piano that she continued to master the instrument in the capital’s Gnesinka. Anna entered the school without having completed her musical education in piano. Her family did not believe that she would be able to succeed in this field, but Anya demonstrated amazing determination and hard work: the piano department of the school named after. She graduated from Gnessins with honors.

Anna Osipova (Semina) is the real name of the singer Utah

After graduating from music school, Utah again surprised her family: she lost interest in the piano and took up jazz vocals. The girl took her first steps in this musical direction in her third year at Gnesinka. Tatyana Markovich gave lessons to the young singer, and Yuta studied composition and arrangement from People's Artist of the RSFSR Yuri Saulsky.

Music

Anna’s acquaintance with the musicians of the Sverdlovsk rock band “April March” influenced the further biography of the vocalist. The girl created her own group, for which she wrote songs and music, and made arrangements. The creative pseudonym Yuta translated from Japanese means song, melody. The group received the same name. Utah made her debut with the album entitled “Easy and Even Graceful” in 2001. The image of a punk-grunge singer, performing compositions to extreme music, stuck behind her. Utah has been called a pioneer of Russian punk-grunge. Critics and music lovers have noted the similarities between Utah's early work and.

But Utah’s second collection, “Hops and Malt,” released in 2002, turned out to be less hard and lighter and more melodic. The songs “Fall” and the title track, which gave the album its name, took places in the rotation of Russian radio stations. Utah was noticed and invited to the rock music festival “Invasion”, which is held with the information support of “Our Radio”. A video was shot for the composition “Hops and Malt” by director Alexander Solokha.

The following year, Utah presented the disc “Rye and Clover,” including songs based on poems by fellow countryman and at that time State Duma deputy Evgeniy Roizman. The most popular compositions of the new album were the songs “Name” and “Purple-Black”, which were included in radio rotation.

The fifth studio album (a collection of remixes was released the same year) appeared in April 2004. It is called "Girl" and released by the Nikitin company. The collection turned out to be more romantic and melodic than all previous ones. Utah’s song “Waited,” performed in a duet with Vladimir Shakhrin, was included in the rotation of “Our Radio,” and the single “Equally Neba” took 59th place on the Tophit music chart.

2005 turned out to be a breakthrough year for Utah: the singer was recognized as a film composer. The first soundtrack that made Utah famous was “Youth in Boots” for the TV series “Soldiers.” The first sign was followed by others: for the series, the composer wrote the soundtracks “Once upon a time” and “That same girl.” The songs were included in radio rotation. In the same year, the vocalist recorded the album “Teleradiosny”, in which she completely moved away from rock. The compositions included in the collection reminded many of Soviet pop songs performed by and.

In the spring of 2007, Utah presented her sixth album, entitled “After.” The name was dictated by the song of the same name, written for the film “After Life”. The composition was awarded a special prize at the fourth international film festival in Sevastopol. A video appeared for the song, edited from film footage. Two more songs from the album – “Name” and “Jealousy” – became the soundtracks to the films “Soldiers” and “Ensign”. Utah sang the composition “Name” together with.

In 2008, the premiere of the album “On the Edge” took place. Utah shared that the album became a turning point for her, pushing her to search for new forms. It combines cold rhythm and blues compositions with warm and romantic songs. The title track became the soundtrack of the comedy “If only it were,” and the song “About Him” was performed in the TV series “Provincial”.

In 2009, Utah announced that the band of the same name no longer existed. In 2012, after a long intermission, the vocalist announced the start of a solo career, taking the creative pseudonym Anna Herzen. But the new name did not catch on, and Anna returned to her usual one. Utah continued to write soundtracks for films, and soon songs appeared for the projects “Lavrova Method” and “Male Female Game”. The composer wrote the music for the Safronov brothers’ circus show program and the soundtrack “My Beloved” for the melodrama “While the Village Is Sleeping.” The song became a winner of the Golden Gramophone.

In 2014, the premiere of Utah’s 8th album “By the Way” took place, released on vinyl. Critic Denis Stupnikov noted that the songs included in the album contain a lot of hidden pain after the experience. But Utah “does not speculate on this pain, but speaks about it latently, allegorically.” In the same year, the songs “Once upon a time” and “Hops and Malt” were included in the list of 500 best compositions of “Our Radio”.

In 2015, Utah gave fans the collection “My Beloved. The best songs,” wrote music for the multi-part melodrama “Family Values” and participated in concerts in Donetsk and Lugansk, supporting the residents of the unrecognized republics. Fans follow the news in the singer’s creative biography on her official website, where there is a schedule of Utah’s concerts, as well as music and poetry.

Personal life

The affair with film producer Oleg Osipov began in 2004. After two years of dating, Yuta and Osipov got married, Anna took her husband’s last name, which she still bears today. In 2007, Utah gave birth to her husband’s first child, whom the couple named Anatoly. Three years later, twin girls Katya and Masha appeared. Grief came to the family when the babies were one year old. Oleg Osipov died suddenly: the cause of death was cardiosclerosis. Previously, the producer was diagnosed with a heart attack.

Utah recovered from the blow and returned to creativity. Her mother helped her survive the tragedy, without whom, according to the singer, she would not have been able to cope with grief. Son Anatoly sat down at the piano at the age of 7 and composed his first music. Yuta claims that the boy has a mathematical mind and is a copy of his dad. And Katya and Masha draw beautifully. There is a lull in the singer’s personal life. According to Yuta, there are many talented and bright men next to her, but “none of them are interested in being a life partner.”

Utah now

In 2016, the vocalist presented the singles “Mama” and “For Russia”. In the same year, Utah presented the studio album “My Relatives,” which included the above-mentioned songs. The disc is a combination of folk songs in a pop arrangement and chanson. According to the Russian company Cyril and Methodius, the album was included in the top ten best Russian music discs of the year.

In the spring of 2017, Yuta was awarded the “Chanson of the Year” statuette. At the ceremony, the singer performed the compositions “My Beloved” and “Hello, People!”

The name "Utah" itself has a powerful symbolic meaning. In Japanese, "Yuta" is a song, a melody, a creation. Such pseudonyms are not chosen by chance: Yuta, a singer and songwriter, has something special, unique to her. Light, magical music, and a voice: bewitching, giving rise to a whole palette of emotions.

Utah, whose musical career began in 2000, is a self-made singer. She went through a difficult school of life, achieving success solely through talent and hard work.

She is a very versatile artist, combining seemingly incompatible things: pop, rock, chanson, folklore, romances. With the release of each new album, including “My Family” (2016), critics had to readjust and listen in new ways.

But the whole point is that Utah composes without looking at fashion or format. She writes songs at the behest of her heart. The lyrics of Utah's songs are stories familiar to everyone, plots and images painfully familiar to people of all ages. Anyone who attends a Utah concert for the first time leaves literally stunned by love and positivity! Her concerts are a dialogue with the listener, sincere communication to which people are so drawn. Confessional Utah, crying Utah, laughing Utah - this is how they remember the singer. Overflowing energy and utmost frankness. And, of course, only live sound! For a decade and a half, Utah has been opening its soul to the listener, and all corners of the country are eagerly awaiting it.

Utah's albums were published in large quantities by the country's main record labels: Real Records, Nikitin, Monolit, etc. Now she is an independent artist in the truest sense: she produces herself, does not depend on a record label or production center.

Utah’s discography consists of ten numbered studio albums, including the new one, “My Relatives,” plus collections. Utah has worked extensively in film, theater and television: her music has been featured in more than forty films, TV series and performances.

Utah hits are in rotation on the country's main radio stations. These are like the old songs “Hops and Malt”, “Once Upon a Time” and “Waited” that are well known to listeners all over the country, to the newest “My Beloved” (from the soundtrack “While the Village Sleeps”), which brought Utah the Golden Gramophone Award.

Participates in a tribute to the group Picnic with the song “Purple-Black”.

2004 The album “Girl” was recorded and released. It included the composition “Once upon a time,” which became Utah’s calling card for a long time. Subsequently, the song is one of the key themes in the series “Soldiers”. Yuta sang the song “Waited” in a duet with Vladimir Shakhrin (leader of the group “ChaiF”). Subsequently, they performed it together on the stage of the Olympic Stadium at the Chart Dozen. “Utah has a powerful, but at the same time very human voice. I want to trust this voice... As a hitmaker, this girl deserves unconditional respect,” authored music columnist Maxim ‘Mr. Parker' Kononenko.

When the song “sounds”, “breathes”, you want to show it to the whole world.

In 2005, Utah began writing music for films and TV series. The first work was for the series “Soldiers”, the song “That Same Girl”, which immediately ended up in the playlists of radio stations. Yuta recalls: “Oleg Osipov, a producer, offered to write music for his project “Soldiers.” I couldn’t even imagine then how life-changing this collaboration would become. The beginning of our relationship can hardly be called a romance, but there was a clear feeling of the birth of a new family. He literally turned my world upside down. He showed me what true love could be. He surrounded me with care, attention, tenderness. It was as if I was born again - I learned to trust a man. He became the best for me."

Yuta continues to write for film, delving deeper into her new profession. The fifth studio "Teleradiosny" was composed of songs for soundtracks.

Utah participates in the Phoenix festival. Revival of life" (Gudermes, Chechen Republic).

Yuta marries producer and director Oleg Osipov. Begins to participate in the work of the Life charity foundation, which supports children with cancer. For a new film project, Utah records his song “Name” as a duet with Alexei Maklakov, which will subsequently be included in the solo albums of both artists.

All my works, and these are not only solo albums, but also numerous soundtracks, are my pride, my life. Life just doesn’t stand still, you know what I mean?

The sixth numbered album “After” is released. The songs “A Little Uncertain” and “Jealousy” are actively supported by radio stations. Creates the soundtrack for Oleg Osipov’s film “After Life”. Also included in the album “After” was the song “Kaby”, a stylization of a Russian folk song. This is the future soundtrack to Oleg Osipov’s second film “If only”.

For the series “Keeper” he writes the song “I Khanil”, which was performed by Alexander Marshal.

The Osipov couple has their first child, son Anatoly. According to the singer, the birth of her son greatly influenced her creative thinking.

Releases the album "On the Edge". Yuta recalls: “The album material was written in a month. It happened like this: I fed my son at night, put him to bed, and ran to the car. I went to the neighboring yard and wrote my songs. I needed silence. A car is the best house"

2009 Utah disbands the group, takes a creative break

In 2010, twins Katya and Masha were born.

In September 2011, Oleg suddenly died from cardiosclerosis. Yuta is left alone with three small children. This terrible tragedy forces the singer to remain silent for some time. But without music, Utah sees no meaning to existence.

My rock and roll. Legendary songs 2000-2010" (2015)

and many others...

The 36-year-old Ural singer burst into the radio charts in January with her new song “First Date.” And at the end of last year, her composition “My Beloved” became truly popular. Utah told Woman’s Day why she returned to the stage after several years of silence.

“I didn’t think about love until the grave...”

Utah, what have you been through over the years?

From 2009 to 2012 there was a period when I did not give concerts. During this time, I managed to carry and give birth to twins Katya and Masha. The elder Tolik was 3 years old at that time. By the way, Masha is named after my grandmother Masha, with whom I spent my childhood in the Vtorchermet area in Yekaterinburg. And during this break, I continued to work as a composer and songwriter. She managed to write music for the film “The Lavrova Method - 2”, for two children’s plays, for the Safronov brothers’ show, for a feature film and... to bury her husband.

I have become older, stronger, more resilient. I am a mother of three children - this really changes my worldview. Responsibility from now on is not just words, but my style of existence. Decisiveness is still lacking, but fears have diminished.

A new period has begun in my life. One morning I woke up and realized it was time for a change. The songs “My Beloved” and “First Date” are a step on this path.

Your husband Oleg Osipov was only 42 years old when he died in 2011 (he had heart disease and suffered a heart attack - WD note). Who helped you survive this tragedy?

My mother helped me survive Oleg’s death: she took care of the children and supported me with everything she could. I couldn't have done it without her. Mom herself is a very strong woman, and this strength was passed on to me from her.

With Oleg – was it love at first sight? Do you think you can love as much the second time?

It wasn't love at first sight. In 2004, Oleg invited me to work on the series “Soldiers” as a composer. I started writing music. Nothing foreshadowed, but suddenly, about six months later, something happened between us - I looked at him with different eyes. And he began to show me signs of attention. And very zealously - he gave gifts, courted, invited to travel. The romance developed very rapidly, but I didn’t even think about love until the grave... But at some point it clicked - this is my loved one, I want to be with him, give birth to his children and take care of him. In 2006 we got married.

Oleg gave me the feeling that I was a princess. My husband has not been around for 4 years, but the feeling remains. And it still gives me drive and strength. To love again... Now my heart is free, we'll wait and see.

Utah with her husband Oleg Osipov

I know that after Oleg’s death, the division of his property began (Oleg Osipov was a successful producer and director. – Note WD). Were you able to defend yourself and your children?

I don’t know who the true initiator of all the disgrace that was happening was. A lot of people were fighting around his property. As a result, we, the heirs, achieved nothing. To be honest, I didn’t want to get involved in these games. I had three babies in my arms, and life was much more valuable to me than millions.

“I was afraid of my father, but he made me an artist”

With children: “They are amazing children - free, powerful and talented”

Tell us about your children: what do they do? Is anyone interested in music or singing?

The eldest son Tolik is in second grade and practices judo and chess. I won't say that he likes studying. No, rather, he practices under pressure, like a normal boy. It is much more important for me to raise a normal, live guy than a nerd. He doesn’t show much interest in music, but he knows almost all my songs by heart. Tolik is trying to marry me off to all the men he knows - the guy needs a father... I understand everything, but I say: they say, you understand, Tolyan, that you will have to live with him all your life? Tolyan nods thoughtfully...

And the twin girls, they are now five years old, dance and engage in all sorts of developmental programs. And they also want to marry me off!

They are amazing children - free, powerful and talented. I learn from them love of life and perseverance!

Your relationship with your father was not easy. Have they changed now - has dad begun to understand you?

Dad... I owe him everything I know. It was my dad who strictly controlled my piano lessons as a child. It was he who gave me the start in developing my own career. Yes, I was afraid of him. But I developed as an artist and a person largely thanks to him.

He almost never praised me. And he often criticized, and did not mince words. Our relationship can be called exactly that: complicated. Show me - who has a simple relationship with whom? My father is everything to me. It’s a pity, I only began to fully realize this recently.

A special word about mom. She understood perfectly well how difficult it was for my father and me. And she made titanic efforts to ensure that there was peace in the house. She is a saint - my mother. Now, being a parent myself, I understand what kind of work it is.

And now everything is the same. Dad doesn’t like my song “First Date,” which is now playing on all radio stations, but mom likes it. That's how we live.

“Only time will help us survive the crisis”

Utah performs again, but continues to write songs for TV series

What music for films and TV series are you currently working on?

How often do you come to your native Yekaterinburg? Are you bored?

I don't come as often as I would like. The last time was two years ago. This year I will arrive a few days before my concert, which will take place on March 17 at the Ben Hall pub. My grandmother and brothers and sisters live here. There are friends here whom I may not see for years, but I am always confident in them. I miss my hometown, of course. In Moscow, when I come across a photo of Yekaterinburg, I freeze. I can hang over a photograph for hours, look at it and get goosebumps. And the meeting of fellow countrymen in Moscow is a separate story! (Laughs.)

Singer Utah (Anna Semina) is another bright star of the Russian musical stage. She is the author of many wonderful compositions, many of which were written for various films and television series. It was as a songwriter for films that Utah became best known among listeners. But what other interesting facts can be found in the fate of this extraordinary singer? We will try to arrange all the events in a logical series, as well as shed light on the main events in the life of our today’s heroine in the framework of our new article.

Singer Utah’s childhood and family

Anna Vladimirovna Syomina was born in the city of Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) on June 20, 1979. Her mother was an opera singer, and therefore, from a very early age, her parents paid great attention to their daughter’s musical education. First, Anya took a course in playing the flute, and later began to sing. However, to her mother’s terrible surprise, she sang not classical vocal parts, but mostly criminal songs, which were so popular in the working-class neighborhoods of Yekaterinburg, where their family lived.

In addition, Utah was also fond of sports - she went to swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. But she didn’t achieve any really bright victories in this area, and therefore she soon decided to focus all her attention on musical creativity.

Anna Semina's move to Moscow

At the age of eleven, the girl began to master the piano, and a few years later she firmly decided to move to Moscow to continue her studies there at the piano department of the famous Gnesinka. As the artist herself admits, she made such a decision in defiance of all her family and friends. No one believed in her, but with her colossal work she proved that she could achieve success. As a result, Anna Semina nevertheless entered the Gnessin School, but the price for this was the complete absence of personal life and youth as such.

As a result, Yuta studied at Gnesinka for several years and very soon successfully graduated from this educational institution. But almost immediately after this, her interest in piano music suddenly disappeared. Having made a sharp turn in her career, Anya decided to take up jazz vocals and, to the surprise of many, she succeeded well in this field.

"Truth 24". Interview with singer Utah

But the changes in creative preferences have by no means exhausted their limit. In 1999, Utah suddenly began to get seriously involved in heavy music. During this period, musician Alexander Semenov became her friend and “collaborator”. At first, the artists really didn’t like each other, but later, surprisingly, they worked well together in the music studio. Soon other musicians were added to them. This is how the Utah group appeared on the Russian stage.

Singer Utah's Star Trek: First Albums

In the early 2000s, the musical group played mainly “hard” compositions in the pop-grunge style. However, subsequently the “heaviness” of the music diminished somewhat. The group began to work in a style similar to the musical role of Shirley Manson and the Garbage group. It was this genre that subsequently brought the team considerable success.

During the existence of the group, the composition of its members changed several times. The only constant that remained was Utah itself. But this seemed to be quite enough for the success of the entire project.

Utah - Hops and Malt

Over the twelve years of its existence, the Utah group has released six studio albums, as well as a huge variety of different collections, live albums and remix records. One of the albums, “Easy and Even Graceful,” was published twice in 2001 and 2004.

Utah's best songs

The records and concerts of our today's heroine have always been very popular among viewers. For a long time, the Utah group was among the TOP 10 most popular groups in Russia. However, the greatest fame for this project was brought by the compositions written for various television series.

The first signs in this regard were the song “Youth in Boots”, as well as some other compositions written for the TV series “Soldiers”. These musical works became real hits, and therefore Anna Semina soon began to often write songs for television series and films.

Thus, the most famous were the compositions written for the projects “Students”, “Lavrova Method”, “Men’s Women’s Game”. Many of these songs subsequently became major hits on Utah's albums.

Singer Utah currently

In 2012, after a long collaboration, our today’s heroine announced that she was disbanding the group and starting to work as a solo performer. It is quite noteworthy that the artist began a new page in her work under the pseudonym Anna Herzen. This project, however, lasted less than a year. Recognizing the experience of solo creativity as unsuccessful, the singer reassembled the Utah group, within which she still works today.

At the moment, our today's heroine is working on new musical compositions, which should be presented in the coming years.

Personal life of singer Utah

At the end of 2006, Anna Semina married film producer Oleg Osipov, an affair with whom had lasted about two years. After registering the marriage, the girl changed her last name and began to appear everywhere under the name Anna Osipova. The artist’s first-born son Anatoly was born in 2007. After this, our today’s heroine gave birth to more twin daughters, whom she named Catherine and Maria.

For a long time, the family of Anna and Oleg was absolutely happy, but in 2011, the singer’s husband unexpectedly died of cardiosclerosis. After this, rumors began to appear in the press that Osipov’s business partners could deprive the singer of her deceased husband’s inheritance. However, in the end everything worked out well. Currently, Yuta lives in Moscow with his three children.

She graduated from the Gnessin State Music College, majoring in piano, and studied at GMUEDI, majoring in pop vocals. Utah has more than 11 studio albums, more than 40 composing works for films, TV series and performances, as well as numerous rotations on the country's main radio stations. YUTA's songs became radio hits and are well known to listeners throughout the country - from the old "Hops and Malt", "Once Upon a Time" and "Waited" to the newest "By the Way" and "My Beloved" from the TV series "While the Village is Sleeping." The debut album “Easy and Even Graceful” turned out to be unusual and quite progressive in sound. Utah was called the pioneer of pop-grunge in Russia. The breakthrough of Utah’s creativity to the mass listener in 2002 was the release of her second album, “Hops and Malt,” on which the singer worked for more than a year. The video for the song "Hops and Malt" was included in rotation on major TV channels such as MTV, ORT and others. The song also received support from radio stations: “Nashe Radio”, “HitFM”, “Chanson”, “Russian Radio”, “Dynamite”, as well as many regional FM stations. Singer UTA actively tours and easily conquers a variety of audiences - from cozy clubs to the open-air “Invasion” of many thousands. A new stage in the singer’s work was the release in January 2014 of the series “While the village is sleeping” with the title song “My Beloved,” which instantly became a hit. Utah wrote this song, like all the music for the series, in 2013. The song literally “took off” - more than a million views on Youtube and numerous rotations on radio stations across the country. The song “By the way” becomes the second radio hit. A video was made of it. In April 2017, Utah was awarded the “Chanson of the Year” statuette.
