Women. Free program.
1. Alina Zagitova – 157.97,
2. Evgenia Medvedeva – 154.29,
3. Maria Sotskova (all Russia) – 132.11,

4. Carolina Costner (Italy) – 125.95.

Alina Zagitova skated her free program to the music of Minkus from the ballet Don Quixote. It was with this program that last season at the junior level the athlete won all the most important victories. It is quite logical that the coaches decided not to change this program, leaving it for the Olympic season with an eye to the fact that the young figure skater will skate it more confidently.

Composer Ludwig Minkus wrote his ballet specifically “for the feet” of the dancers, initially making it very convenient for performance. Alternation of slow and fast parts, music that “drags” and charges emotionally. And the second half of Zagitova’s program musically helps the athlete perform difficult jumps. Zagitova performs all her jumping elements in the second part of the program.

At the Megasport skating rink, yesterday’s junior followed a clean skate in the short program with a clean free skate. True, the athlete herself said after the performance that she was critical of herself and rated her performance as a “B”, since there were shortcomings.

Seeing the final results on the scoreboard, the winner’s reaction was restrained:

I still don’t understand what happened. But I'm glad. This will give me strength for the future.

Today's day of the European Figure Skating Championships was opened by dance duets.

Attention! The broadcast time, as well as the time in the schedule, is Ural (Moscow minus two hours).

Results of the short program:

1. Gabriela Papadakis - Guillaume Cizeron (FRANCE) - 81.29

2. Alexandra Stepanova - Ivan Bukin (RUSSIA) - 75.38

3. Anna Cappellini - Luca Lanotte (ITALY) - 74.76

4. Ekaterina Bobrova - Dmitry Solovyov (RUSSIA) - 74.43

... 8. Tiffany Zagorski - Jonathan Gureiro (RUSSIA) - 65.35

19:45 Let's admire once again the best dance duets at the end of the short dance! Tomorrow we will determine the European champions.

19:40 And following the medal ceremony there was a draw for the free dance. It will take place tomorrow, January 20th.

The order of entry to the free dance in the final group of participants:

17. Ekaterina Bobrova - Dmitry Solovyov

18.

19. Alexandra Stepanova - Ivan Bukin

20.

19:35 The medal ceremony has just taken place: small medals were awarded.

18:55 Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin did a great job! We set a personal record - 75.38. And most importantly, they overtook the Italian duo. According to the results of the short program, they are second.

18:49 They beat the Russian duo with a score of 74.79. Thus, the Italians are second. Another Russian duet on the ice - Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin.

18:42 Anna Capellini and Luca Lanotte from Italy - another contenders for the podium.

18:39 The French showed just a great performance - artistry, skill - and the current European champions are in the lead after a short dance - they have 81.29 points.

18:36 But on the ice, the main contenders for gold are Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron. The French came out to win, it was clear.

18:35 Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri from Italy received 71.58 points. They're second for now.

18:32 Of course, Katya and Dima were upset. But let's see what happens next.

18:38 Right now there were skaters on the ice Gabriela Papadakis - Guillaume Cizeron from France. They can already be called legends of modern figure skating. They come out on top with a score of 81.29. As you can see, there is a catastrophically large gap between the French and the Russian duo...

18:30 Excellent performance from Russian athletes! 74.43 points. Of course, this is the first place at the moment. But the scores are quite low for these skaters. Perhaps the judges withheld points for our guys.

The skaters now look very unhappy in the kiss and cry zone...

18:20 So, we are excited! The best couples in Europe are warming up on the ice. The Russian duo will take to the ice right now Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov.

They are Olympic champions in Sochi in the team event, European champions, two-time silver medalists of the European Championships, two-time bronze medalists of the European Championships (a year ago Katya and Dima just took bronze), seven-time champions of Russia.

18:05 Our beloved German fans with the drums also got some sleep. Apparently, the organizers have now included “Du hast” by Rammstein especially for them.

18:02 There are almost no empty seats in the stands. As we expected, the audience will join in with the leaders’ performances. Now the ice is being poured, after which the strongest skaters in Europe will appear on the ice. Here we will see two Russian duets at once - Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov And Alexander Sepanov and Ivan Bukin.

17:50 The French are on the ice Marie-Jade Lauriot and Romain Le Gac. The program was not successful for the athletes. So far - preliminary 9th place.

17:45 Multiple champions of Ukraine and bronze winners of the 2015 World Junior Championships performed Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin. Alas, only the sixth guys are now.

17:40 Multiple Danish champions took to the ice. Laurence Fournier-Baudry and Nikolai Sørensen. At the European Championships last season, the couple was in seventh place. Danish fans at the stadium have now raised their flags - this couple is very loved in their homeland.

17:35 Polish duo on ice Natalya Kalishek and Maxim Spodyrev. At the last European Championship they took 8th place. They have now revived the audience. It's not just about the fiery skating, but also about the choice of musical composition. For a short dance the guys chose "Despacito".

17:32 Came in first place Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland- multiple champions of Great Britain, winners of bronze in the European Championship of the 13/14 season. They have 69.45 points.

17:30 In the photo - Tiffany and Jonathan. A very bright and colorful couple!

17:21 A few more words about our couple Tiffany Zagorski And Jonathan Gureiro. Previously, athletes trained in a coach’s group Alexandra Zhulina and it was with him that they achieved their first serious results. But in May the skaters switched to other coaches - Elena Kustarova And Svetlana Alekseeva. There were many opinions about whether the guys took the right step, and even during the Olympic season. But so far they are not experiencing any big problems - the couple showed good results, first at the Challenger series tournament, where they took silver, and then at the Chinese Grand Prix stage - where they finished next to the podium. However, we note that the skaters’ programs have become less elegant, but we’ll see how they show themselves at a major international competition.

17:12 The first Russian couple performed - Tiffany Zagorski And Jonathan Gureiro. For them, this was the first European Championship in their careers - and the guys did a pretty good job with their first performance: the judges rated their dance at 65.35 points, now the Russian duet is in second place. Only a Spanish couple was ahead of them - Sarah Hurtado And Kirill Khalyavin- they have 66.60 points. The third place was taken by another duet from this warm-up - the Turks Alisa Agafonova And Alper Ukar- they have 59.30 points. By the way, it turns out that today is Alper’s birthday - congratulations to the athlete! Representatives of the team met him in the tribune area with a birthday cake.

16:25 Results after the first 15 participants.

16:20 On the ice - Armenian champions Tina Garabedian and Simon Proulx-Senecal. By the way, the guys are from Canada.

16:13 On Ice - Hungarian duet Anna Yanovskaya and Adam Lukacs. The couple lives and trains in Moscow with coaches Svinin and Zhuk. The partner previously competed for Russia and won the Junior World Championship - although with another partner, Sergei Mozgov. By the way, there was a rather bright and promising duet that broke up in 2016. As Sergei Mozgov explained to the press, the duo broke up due to different attitudes towards the training process. Sergey is now performing with Betina Popova for Russia. They did not qualify for the European Championship.

And Anna and Adam take intermediate first place with a score of 59.13.

16:05 A couple from Israel on the ice - Adele Tankova and Ronald Silberberg. My partner, by the way, used to perform in pair skating and later switched to dancing. The guys completely failed the short dance, the judges had a lot of complaints. After performing 13 duets, they take only 11th place. There was a lot of asynchrony, there was no support, the judges rejected almost all elements.

16:00 Participants of the fourth group are allowed to warm up.

15:52 Italian duet performed Jasmine Tessari and Francesco Fioretti, it was an incendiary performance. But so far, of course, we do not see complex supports and interesting findings. Next up is a Lithuanian couple Guste Damulevičite and Deividas Kisala. Pleasant to watch, quite a musical and dynamic performance. But again, there is not enough complexity, duets do not take risks yet, they do not create complex elements.

15:45 We did not put this photo for the sake of the Slovak duet Lucy Muslivechkova - Lucas Chollay, but for the sake of the wonderful kiss and cry zone. Yesterday we shared with you our opinion that this is a very good idea - a screen on which views of Moscow are broadcast. The skaters sit on a bench under the lanterns against the backdrop of beautiful views - and it looks very cool. Both on screen and live.

15:40 While the duo from Finland is in the lead - Cecilia Thorne and Jussiville Partanen. They scored 57.73 points for the short dance. Slovak duet Lucia Myusliveckova and Lucas Xolle They had just performed, but they couldn’t get around the Finns either.

15:35 Now, of course, Megasport is only half full. Firstly, there are at least two hours left before the leaders speak. Many guests from other cities and countries have simply not come to Megasport yet. Secondly, today is a weekday and, of course, many Moscow fans are still at work. But I must say, the audience warmly welcomes each duet and is very supportive.

15:50 The third group of skaters is preparing to take to the ice. We are waiting for the performance of four couples.

15:20 There are a huge number of journalists from all over the world - not just Europe. Today there are many Spaniards - they, of course, have a special day: immediately after the dances, the men's performances will begin, where five-time European champion Javier Fernandez will perform. Many Italians, Germans, English, French. French journalists, of course, are upset about yesterday - let us remind you that the leaders of the short program in pairs ended up one step away from the podium, and all the prizes were taken by Russian duets. At press conferences, journalists ask a lot of questions about the Olympics. This is expected: the next start is the Olympic Games. Our athletes respond very worthy. As Evgenia Medvedeva answered, .

15:00 As promised, we are publishing fans’ opinions about the European Championship. Today the second day of the competition is commented by figure skating enthusiast Venera Khasanova:

Yesterday was my first day at the European Championships - I can say that the atmosphere in Megasport is truly wonderful. I would compare it with the Russian championships of recent years, only the scale here is more impressive - there are more fans, and the arena itself is many times larger. There are a lot of Russian flags in the stands, people nearby say: “At least for the last time, raise our flags with pride.” At the awards ceremony for sports couples, the audience enthusiastically sang the anthem. At the same time, the attitude towards athletes from other countries is very respectful - the audience welcomes almost every successful element. Yesterday there was especially warm support Caroline Costner- it even seemed to me that it was stronger than Evgeny Medvedev.

As for the competition itself, the girls left a great impression. Zhenya Medvedeva has grown a lot artistically over the past year: if earlier her technical abilities were amazing, then at yesterday’s box office she was inspired by every movement, right down to the pauses. This is already a sign of mature, thoughtful skating that gets to the heart. And here Alina Zagitova she skates with courage, if Zhenya was very worried - it was obvious, before going out she walked back and forth along the edge, worried, then Alina feels the strong support of the audience and seems to be fueled by it - she is very confident, as she showed during the skate. I will also remember Carolina Costner, because when she doesn’t make mistakes, her skating is simply mesmerizing - soft, graceful, stylish.

I enjoyed watching the performances of sports couples. How can you not be happy - all Russian couples are on the podium! I really enjoyed the rental and Zhenya Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov- I've been following them throughout the season - and yesterday, without a doubt, was their best performance. Technically, there was almost no fault with them, and their synchronized rotations were performed simply at the highest level. The couple Stolbova-Klimov gorgeous free program to the music of Bizet. Moreover, Ksenia has a new dress - it seems to me that it is more successful, she is more comfortable in it. The guys made a grave mistake, and for them it was already systematic, and the audience was very worried, Ksyusha cried from resentment after the skate. But such mistakes will be corrected by the Olympics, let’s hope so. There was talk yesterday that the French couple was sued - I do not agree. Vanessa James I still landed on two legs after the throws - it was noticeable, and my partner almost tore off the last support, so I think that everything is fair.

Today my favorite sport is ice dancing, I expect it to be a real show!

14:55 At the moment, the first 5 couples have performed. The performance has now been completed by the Ukrainian duet Daria Popova - Vladimir Belikov. By the way, he trains them Alexander Zhulin.

In general, he has several pairs today - the Ukrainians who have already performed and the Belarusian duet.

13:50 The first Russians on the ice we will see are Tiffany Zagorski and Jonathan Gureiro - they will open the fifth warm-up at 16:50. We will see the rest of the Russian duets in the final, seventh group. The first of them will be Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov at 18:20. Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin will complete today's performance of dance couples at 18:46. The main contenders for European Championship gold are the French Gabriela Papadakis - Guillaume Cizeron will take the ice at 18:33. Another famous European couple is the Italians Anna Cappellini - Luca Lanotte will take the ice at 18:39.

Also on the ice today will be Charlene Guignard - Marco Fabri (Italy), Sara Hurtado - Kirill Khalyavin (Spain), Alisa Agafonova - Alper Uchar (Turkey), Alexandra Nazarova - Maxim Nikitin (Ukraine), Penny Coomes - Nicholas Buckland (Great Britain).

At the European Championships in Moscow, Russian dance duets won silver and bronze. Ekaterina Bobrova - Dmitry Solovyov moved up from fourth place to second after a short dance. Alexandra Stepanova - Ivan Bukin repeated their own result of the 2015 European Championship.

Two-time world champions in ice dancing Gabriella Papadakis - Guillaume Cizeron became four-time European champions at the competition in Moscow, rewriting two world records at once - in free dance (121.87) and in the sum of two programs (2013.16). The figure skaters from France captivated the audience with their virtuoso performance so much that after the final chord, many probably caught themselves thinking that such a performance could be watched and re-watched ad infinitum. Silent technical gliding like clockwork, elements flowing from one another, amazing body control combined with musical accompaniment allow us to say that this French duet is a phenomenon in world figure skating. And it is possible that the style they demonstrate today will eventually be called the Papadakis-Cizeron style.

At the European Championships it was very difficult to compete with the French on equal terms. The two leading Russian pairs on the Megasport ice solved their own problems. In a short dance, Sasha and Ivan skated so hard that the audience stood up. These were sincere emotions from what they saw, and not just a patriotic impulse, support for Russian athletes on their “field”. In the free program, students of Irina Zhuk and Alexandra Svinina improved their personal best; their skating and programs exuded freshness. The guys have improved a lot this season and have grown in every way. But in Moscow, Stepanova and Bukin lost to more experienced compatriots and became two-time bronze medalists at the European Championships.

— We showed our working rental. Not the best, but we managed to do what we intended. The European Championship medal is very important for us. This is the European Championship, not a local start! Amazing rating couples come here, and to be in the top three here is very cool! – commented Ivan Bukin.

— We were preparing for this championship, taking into account the experience of the Russian championship. Not much time passed after that start, and we understood perfectly well what needed to be done, how to drive away unnecessary emotions in order to go out with a “clean head” and skate,” said Alexandra Stepanova.

— You know, we somehow cheerfully and calmly prepared ourselves for the free skate. Sasha was joking. I was a little worried, to be honest. But she was joking, it was funny to me. And we went out and skated calmly. It seemed to me that in one breath. The way we were received by the public at this championship was simply fantastic! Once again I want to say thank you to everyone who came and who was sick. The support was enormous. I felt calm! There is such an atmosphere here, I want to come here. You put your foot on the ice and they applaud you. It’s so cool and so motivating,” the partner added.

Ekaterina Bobrova - Dmitry Solovyov once again demonstrated reliability. The athletes made mistakes in the free dance competition, but psychologically they pulled themselves together and persevered.

— Our best free dance performance was at the Russian Championships. Now, perhaps, somewhere it has sunk in that we did not do the second support as well as we could have done it. But I want to thank Dima for getting out of the situation. We have something to work on. And, despite the “sizn best”, this is not our highest rating,” said Ekaterina Bobrova.

The athletes viewed the European Championship as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games in Korea.

— This championship is really a kind of rehearsal for the Olympics. We have identified some nuances for ourselves that require four times more work. Tomorrow is an exhibition, on Monday we will go on the ice, we will work on all the elements,” explained Dmitry Solovyov.

“Now let’s rest a little, get our head in order, which is very important.” On the 27th we fly to Japan and on January 28th we will wait there for an invitation from the IOC. God willing, everything will be okay,” Ekaterina concluded.

European Championship debutants Tiffany Zagorski - Jonathan Gureiro finished the tournament in 6th place.

— We skated very well. This was our best free skate. We skated better than yesterday, and this shows our readiness,” Tiffany said.

— Usually we do well in the short dance, but in the free dance we are a little constrained. Here it turned out the other way around. But apparently they wanted to show everything to the maximum that they had burned out. But we sat with the coaches, talked and today we came out with a clear head and skated well,” John added.
