Any sketches. Anime “Death Note. Why choose an original sketch?

A character in the manga and anime Death Note, as well as films and computer games based on the manga. The God of Death, out of boredom, threw the Death Note into the human world - an artifact that is used to kill people. For a person to be overtaken by death, it is enough to write the name of this person in the Death Note. Then he had fun watching a Japanese schoolboy who picked up a notebook and began using it to kill criminals.

History of creation

The character of Ryuk was invented and developed into a finished concept by Japanese writer and screenwriter Tsugumi Ohba, and the character was designed by artist Takeshi Obata. When Tsugumi Obu was asked why the apple was chosen as Ryuk's attribute and favorite food, the screenwriter explained that the choice was made based on the visual impact of the picture.

The character looked good with apples, and the red color of the fruit made a striking combination with the black color and Ryuk's huge toothy mouth. When asked whether there were some broad cultural and religious associations that were loaded with the image of an apple, Oba directly stated that he had not thought about anything like that, just “apples are cool.”

It’s hard to believe, but the monstrous Ryuk, in accordance with the artist’s original plan, was supposed to look like a human youth, similar in appearance to Light, only with black wings and brunette hair. The artist wanted the death gods to look like rock stars and be attractive to the reader.

However, then Obata came to the idea that the overly attractive Ryuk would steal the attention of the audience. Then Light will turn out to be a supporting character, and not the main character, as intended. Later, the editor demanded that Ryuk not look human at all, and as a result the hero received a monstrous appearance. In the official guide to the manga "Death Note 13: How to Read", the artist says that he imagined Ryuk's monstrous mug as a mask, under which an attractive face was hidden.

Anime "Death Note"

The anime series Death Note was produced by Madhouse and aired in 2006-2007. A total of 37 twenty-minute episodes were released. The director of the series is Tetsuro Araki, the voice actor who voiced Ryuk is Shido Nakamura.

The creators of the anime closely reproduced the plot of the manga, so that both the character’s character and the events in which he participates in the anime are almost no different from what happens in the manga. Only some sidelines disappeared from the anime and several minor episodes appeared that were not in the manga, but this did not affect the overall storyline.

Ryuk is bored in the world of the gods of death, where nothing interesting happens: the gods sit back and play dice. For fun, Ryuk throws the Death Note into the human world, accompanied by instructions so that the person who picks up the notebook can use it. Later it turns out that the planted notebook did not belong to Ryuk himself, but to another god of death named Sido.

In the human world, the notebook is picked up by Yagami Light - a Japanese schoolboy, the son of a police chief, an intelligent but slightly antisocial teenager who decides to use the notebook to destroy criminals and imagines himself as the “god of a new world”, where only law-abiding and “useful” people will remain to society.

Ryuk follows with interest the actions Light takes, but does not feel any friendly feelings towards the teenager. Ryuk follows Light everywhere, accompanying him even to school, but no one except Light sees Ryuk. The God of Death is only having fun watching Light, and is not interested in helping or, conversely, hindering him.

However, Ryuk has a weakness - he loves apples. In exchange for apples, Light manages to “promote” Ryuk for some services. For example, the god of death told Light about the pursuers who were watching him, discovered the cameras that L installed to watch Light, and, at Light’s request, wrote fake rules in the notebook. All for the sake of being able to eat apples.

The only major difference between the anime and manga is the ending. In the anime, Ryuk kills Light under different circumstances.

In addition to Ryuk, there are other gods of death in the series, for example, Rem. This god of death watches over another character, Misa, a girl who “acquired” eyes from the god of death in order to see the names and life spans of people. In the manga and anime, Rem is portrayed as a woman, but in the Death Note films, this role is played by a man.

Rem hates people because of their inherent cruelty and is disgusted by Light because of the methods he uses. However, Rem has to help Light because of Misa. Visually, Rem was created as a contrasting character to Ryuk.

The character also appears in the full-length anime Death Note Rewrite: The Visualizing God, which is a condensed retelling of the series. According to the plot, Ryuk is in the world of the gods of death, where he retells to a certain god of death his own memories of Light and related events.

Ryuk also appears in the 2006 Japanese mystery thriller Death Note, where the hero is voiced by actor Shidô Nakamura. In 2017, a film based on the manga was released by American director Adam Wingard. The names of the characters here are distorted, the American city of Seattle becomes the setting, and the plot is also greatly redrawn from the manga. The role of Ryuk in this film adaptation is played by an American actor.

Death gods in anime are supernatural characters who are not essentially responsible for the death of people. According to the plot, people die beautifully without the intervention of the gods. The gods need to kill people by writing their names in the notebook in order to prolong their own lives, since the remainder of the years not lived by a person due to the fact that the god of death wrote the name in the notebook is transferred “to the account” of the god of death himself.

  • In the new Japanese mythology there are gods of death - Shinigami, but this type of character appeared relatively recently. This is the personification of death, an image that can be found in engravings and other pictures. It is used in modern Japanese art. Presumably, the image of the Shinigami penetrated into Japanese folklore from Europe, where the image of Death was personified in art, or from Chinese mythology, where there were different types of death gods. The image of Shinigami first appears in Japanese literature in the middle of the 19th century.

  • Ryuk's design turned out to be so catchy and recognizable that some fans began to get tattoos of the character. Other fans of the series put on some pretty cool cosplay, convincingly portraying Ryuk, or create art to show their love for the character.

Reference to the fresco "Creation of Adam"
  • There are many references to the real world in the series. For example, in the opening sequence of each new episode, there is a moment when Light and Ryuk “depict” the “Creation of Adam” fresco. Ryuk is in the position of God, Light is in the position of Adam, and Ryuk takes the apple from Light's hands.

Quotes

“But if you kill all the criminals, then in the end you will be the only criminal left.”
“Apples are to me what drug or tobacco addiction is to people.”
“People... They are so interesting!”
“They are looking for each other, not knowing their names or faces. And the one who is found first will die.”
“Aren’t you going to kill people? How boring you are..."
“Why do people need these pieces of paper... Although you can buy apples with these pieces of paper, so I understand them.”

Why do we need tattoo designs? Even if you have already decided to get a tattoo and know exactly what you will get, you also need to decide on the style and convey the task as clearly as possible to the performer. To do this, you need to provide a sketch of the tattoo, something that the artist will rely on. Of course, more and more often people prefer to go to a specific tattoo artist, whom they go to for his unique style, his vision and his advice. They are “in love” with his performance style and trust him completely. However, if such a master is not in sight, or if the master works with many styles, bring him a sketch of the tattoo.

Here we have selected 5 of the best, in our opinion, resources with free sketches that you can use as inspiration or even as a basis for your tattoo.

The resource is replete with images that are carefully divided into categories and subtypes within them. It is very convenient to search for what you need.

2. Dubuddha Tattoo Gallery

In addition to the sketches themselves, on this resource you will find many photographs of tattoos broken down by body parts in which they are implemented. There is also an interesting breakdown by style, that is, you can immediately search for a suitable image in the desired manner of execution.

This is already a resource located in the ru-zone, broken down by topic. For example, “sharks”, “watercolor”, “bulls”, etc.

A resource where you will not only find a fairly large catalog of sketches, but also be able to get information on the styles and meanings of tattoos.

And finally, for those who have already finally decided to get a tattoo, I would like to give some advice from the editors:

Why choose an original sketch?

It would seem that the question is so simple that it requires no explanation. Nevertheless, with the presence of smart artists and an endless amount of information on the global Internet, there are those who want to get a tattoo “like in the picture.” Many people don’t see the difference between a regular drawing and a sketch for a tattoo, but this is very important! Not all pictures from the World Wide Web are suitable for application to the body, but many of them can be processed into an individual sketch (taking into account contouring, shadows and color rendering).

Let’s look step by step at what lies the value of an individual sketch.

  1. A person with a tattoo in a prominent place should be prepared for increased public attention. Some will simply look at the drawings with interest, while others will not hesitate to ask questions. After the standard topics about whether it hurts, how much it costs and what it will look like in old age, you will hear: “What does it mean?” . If your picture is not entirely obvious =) And here few people like to answer: “Nothing, I found it on Google” or “I don’t know, it was in the catalog of standard sketches.” Nobody says that all drawings on the body should have a deep meaning, which needs to be talked about while raising your hands to the sky and rolling your eyes. But it’s much more pleasant when you are aware of what you put on your body and can easily explain your motives (at least to yourself, because no one is obliged to account for their tattoos to anyone else). Of course, someone decides to put a drawing on the body absolutely spontaneously, under the influence of some emotional events. As a rule, such clients then come to get their “masterpiece” mixed.
  2. Since a body with a tattoo is an object of creativity, it is worth thinking about how many people want to become the owners of a second-rate work of art? We are now talking about tattoos - copies. After all, the originals are priceless examples of the greatest craftsmanship. Only authentic specimens are exhibited in museums and bought into private collections. No one will read the scribbles of an amateur when the greatest works of the literary genre are available. That is why an original sketch, developed individually for you, is so highly valued.
  3. An experienced and talented master is always happy to work with clients who bring him new and reckless ideas. As an artist, he wants to create and create (but sometimes also destroy) =) Avoid tattoo artists who offer to replicate the design of one of their clients. A tattoo is a private artistic property in a single copy. It should not be repeated on the body for everyone.

Study original author's sketches on our website, gain ideas and fly to your master on creative wings =) Together you will create a unique example of an artistic tattoo that will become your companion for life.
