International Music Festival "Jazz Koktebel" (Koktebel Jazz Party). "We came to make music, not politics": Foreign musicians are not afraid of sanctions due to Koktebel Jazz Party Crimea Koktebel Jazz Festival

On the evening of August 25, on the very shore of the Black Sea, in the Crimean village of Koktebel, the audience whistled, roared and stood up to applaud the latest jazz chords. completed the blues team from the United States of the famous musician Selvin Birchwood.

At the 17th Jazz Festival this year there were many surprises and surprises - a performance in a somewhat unusual style by rock singer Yulia Chicherina with saxophonist Sergei Golovnya, a brief performance by Yuri Bashmet, the incendiary rhythms of many famous Russian and foreign bands - primarily the six-time Grammy-winning legendary trumpeter Randy Brecker.

He came to KJP for just one day, and after a couple of days he left a comment on Facebook in which he wrote about his impressions of the festival - the praise of such a famous musician is worth a lot, those who noticed these words of Brekker on the social network noted.

The performance of the well-known jazz pianist Oleg Starikov, who shortly before the start of the festival broke his arm and played with one hand, was not without surprise. But, as the musician said at a press conference, this is a challenge for him, and he accepted it.

The audience also fell in love with Selwyn Birchwood, a liberated American who came to a press conference and took off his shoes, remaining barefoot.

He told reporters that he accepted the invitation to the festival in Crimea without hesitation, immediately, although he had not been to Russia before.

Birchwood admitted that if it weren't for the music, he would hardly have ended up in this place, but when he climbed Junge Hill (which was the main stage of the festival), he was delighted with the landscapes of Koktebel. And he, in turn, delighted the listeners and fans who stood in line to take a photo with him.

The special atmosphere of the festival, when jazz sounds for three days not only in the evening, but also during the day - during the rehearsals of musicians, so that people on the beach can listen to them and even dance to fiery rhythms, was noted not only by foreign musicians.

An indicator of interest in KJP is a full house in the stalls, where tickets were sold out for all days of the festival, and some bought them a month in advance.

Those who wanted to listen to jazz in a more relaxed atmosphere could do it in an open area, sitting on cozy sofas near cafes and tents with drinks.

One of the spectators said that she came here with her American husband specifically for KJP, and they were so fascinated by the Crimea that they decided to stay here for a few months.

However, jazz sounded during the day at other venues of the festival - the Voloshin stage, at the Taurida festival, near the Koktebel water park and at the local dolphinarium.

Saxophonist and art director of the festival Sergey Golovnya, by tradition, performed there, and dolphins and fur seals showed their tricks to jazz tunes.

But, of course, the main action took place at night - and even after the end of the concert. Until almost five in the morning, the musicians who performed on the main stage played in a local restaurant on the traditional "jams" for jazzmen.

So it was on the last night of the festival, and there were some surprises here too: suddenly the jazzmen "gave the floor" to the rapper. And this "transfer of the baton" was not without reason: literally in a couple of days here, in Koktebel, the first festival of youth rap culture and music in Crimea will be held, initiated by the "founding father" of the Koktebel Jazz Party Dmitry Kiselev.

Well, it will be possible to come to Koktebel for jazz again in a year - on the last weekend of August 2020, stars will again come here not only from Russia, but also from abroad.

From August 18 to 20, the international jazz festival "Koktebel Jazz Party 2017" will be held in the artistic village of Koktebel in Crimea.

The festival "Koktebel Jazz Party 2017" this year will be the anniversary, it will be held for the 15th time, and the motto of the event was a line from the song of the composer A. Tsfasman - "the king of Soviet jazz" - "In the same place - the same jazz".

ATTENTION! Jazz performances on the first day of the Koktebel Jazz Party international festival have been canceled due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. All holders of tickets for the evening concert on August 18 will be able to pass through them to the performances on August 19 or 20. Those who wish will be able to return money for tickets on August 19 from 12 to 17 hours. You will need to have an identity document with you.

Designers have chosen constructivism, which was noticeably developed in post-revolutionary Russia in the 20s of the XX century, as the main motive in the design of the stage areas of the festival "Koktebel Jazz Party 2017". The guests of the jubilee jazz season are waiting for several stages, music and art programs from outstanding jazzmen of the world and the amazing energy of Koktebel. Politics is politics, religion is religion, and we make music and we came here to play music, - said American vocalist Denise King.

Koktebel is a wonderful place, there is a wonderful audience here, and we will be very pleased to play on stage by the sea to his accompaniment, - says saxophonist Rick Margitza, leader of the international band Rick Margitza.

According to the foreign members of the ensemble, they are visiting Crimea for the first time and are delighted with the festival.

There is a special place here - a stage right on the beach, and a great opportunity to meet so many famous jazzmen. We like the atmosphere, - said bassist Silvan Romano.

According to the pianist, composer and jazzman Vahagn Hayrapetyan, "in terms of the composition of the participants, the Koktebel Jazz Party is the most jazz festival in the post-Soviet space."

Russian trumpeter Vitaly Golovnev invited New York jazz musicians to play with him on stage. According to him, in the New York All Stars team "there were no questions and problems about the status in political and cultural aspects."

Our festival is people who are engaged in jazz, not politics, and we are very grateful to them for this, - emphasizes the famous Russian journalist Dmitry Kiselev, founder of the festival.

Many performers liked the small resort village of Koktebel. True, the pits on the roads and traffic jams were a little embarrassing.

Everything is great in Koktebel! A small problem is traffic, but we are from New York, we are not used to this. I have been to Russia many times and every time I notice how much better the country is getting. I am impressed by the ongoing development of infrastructure. There are wonderful, welcoming and friendly people here. I am glad to be here and hope to come here again, - says the famous tenor jazz saxophonist Don Braden, who performs with American jazz star Vanessa Rubin.

Vanessa first came to the Crimea.

We arrived in the evening, it was already dark and nothing could be seen. Today, when the sun rose, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. When we get free, let's go swimming in the sea, because it's just a wonderful place, - the singer told reporters.

Charmed all the audience Chinese musicians - the group Segar Band, performing music in the fusion style. It includes one of the most famous jazz musicians in China, Xifeng Sedar Chin. The drums were played by Filipino drummer Domenic Batista. Zhang Xionguang played the trumpet. The group's bassist Huang Yong is the founder of the Nine Gates International Jazz Festival.

The British band Incognito received the Audience Choice Award. The musicians received the loudest applause. Before the concert, the group's founder and guitarist Jean-Paul Monique said that all the performers are people from different countries, different cultures and religions, but they are united by music.

One of the most eminent and well-known Russian jazzmen, pianist Yakov Okun has been performing at the festival for the fifth year.

As a child, I traveled to the Crimea with my parents. I do not remember these trips well, but the important thing is that it was the whole family. Now I feel at home here, - Okun admires.

This year, the famous pianist has assembled a new line-up of the ensemble, which included the famous trumpet player, student of Louis Armstrong, Eddie Henderson, and vocalist Deborah Brown.

It was very easy for us to play. Jazz is an international language, so we can have a musical dialogue. It is enough to play with a person once to understand him, - said Henderson.

Next year the festival will also take place at the end of August.

We are organizing the Koktebel Jazz Party with great faith that Koktebel will develop, and someday we will be able to hold a jazz parade along the embankment. We really want to have a beautiful embankment here, - said Dmitry Kiselev.

Koktebel Jazz Party was first held in 2003. It was the initiative of the journalist Dmitry Kiselyov. The festival got its name thanks to the venue - the resort village of Koktebel. The event has now gone international. The performers performed on the Main and Voloshin stages of the resort village. Jazz performances were also held in the Koktebel Dolphinarium, the water park and the large arena in Artek.

The fifteenth Koktebel Jazz Festival will be held in Chernomorsk on August 24-27. The history of Koktebel Jazz Festival began on the Black Sea coast 15 years ago. During this time, the festival managed to receive about 3 thousand musicians and at least 500 thousand visitors.

DakhaBrakha, The Hardkiss, Jamala and other popular artists played their first big concerts here, which then became a discovery for the festival audience. Nino Katamadze, "Aquarium", "Lyapis Trubetskoy" and dozens of other stars presented their new programs at the Koktebel Jazz Festival in different years.

In total, over the years of the festival, its scenes have received the best musicians from more than 45 countries around the world. Among them: Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Alexei Kozlov, Erik Truffaz, Richard Galliano, The Cinematic Orchestra, Bonobo, De-Phazz, Parov Stelar, Shibusashirazu Orchestra, Gus-Gus, Kadebostany, Submotion Orchestra, Bjorn Barge, Goran Bregovic, Patrick Wolf, The Bad Plus and many more.

Koktebel Jazz Festival has become a meeting place and a place of power for thousands of creative people from different parts of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and European countries.

Since 2014 Koktebel Jazz Festival has changed its location twice and last year finally found a new place under the sun - in the city of Chornomorsk, Odessa region.

The variety of musical genres and artists represented at the festival has always been one of the main distinguishing features of the Koktebel Jazz Festival. And it was the multi-format that became the main concept of the Koktebel Jazz Festival 2017. This year, the number of festival scenes will increase to five, and the number of musical genres presented at the festival will increase even more. This means even more music, even more art, even more new discoveries, interesting festival stories and new friends.

Also this year, Koktebel Jazz Festival presents a special program dedicated to the celebration of the Independence Day of Ukraine. Therefore, August 24 is officially declared the Day of Ukrainian Music at the festival!

Shantel- the king of the Balkan dance floor, the author of the soundtrack to the comedy "Borat" and the super hit Disko Partizani, is bringing a special program SHANTOLOGY 30 years to the main stage. Remember how we danced in Koktebel to the incendiary rhythms of Goran Bregovic? Shantel and its Bucovina Club Orkestar promise no less scope. It is not for nothing that their unbridled discos with the use of remixes of Balkan rhythms and gypsy wind music are famous all over the world.

The long-awaited guests of the festival will also be controversial people from Foggy Albion, one of the best live teams in the world - the legendary Asian Dub Foundation. For more than twenty years now, their killer rap-reggae has been raising acute social issues. During their long and productive career, the Asian Dub Foundation has shared the stage with Rage Against The Machine, The Cure and Radiohead. They performed at the world's best festivals, and in August 2017 they will perform in Ukraine for the first time.

Melancholy romantic from Sweden Jay-Jay Johanson I have already been on the stage of the Koktebel Jazz Festival in Kyiv, after which I decided to return to it again - this time on the seashore. Jay-Jay Johanson's musical style combines elements of jazz, trip-hop and electronic music. His tracks, without exaggeration, are the perfect soundtrack for a warm day by the sea.

Red Snapper and the Car Drivers are old friends of Koktebel Jazz Festival. In the past, both teams have already performed at the festival.

The public liked their concerts so much that this year the organizing committee decided to invite the bands to the Nu Jazz Stage again. Both teams promised special festival surprises and brand new compositions that they will exclusively present to the guests of the Koktebel Jazz Festival.

His old friend, the frontman of the legendary German band, will definitely visit the anniversary festival De Phazz and founder of a solo project - Karl Frierson. This year Karl will be the Festival's Special Guest, and his performance will help listeners discover this artist from a completely different perspective.

Finally, one of the biggest surprises of 2017 will be the return of TNMK Jazzy- a special project of the group "Tank on the Maidan Congo", the idea of which was born and was first presented at the festival in 2004-2005. You will hear original TNMK songs played in special jazz arrangements.

The stage will work during the daytime, and the entrance to it will be free.

Campfire Stage

This year's innovation is an acoustic stage located in a tent city. Here, hiding from the scorching southern sun, you can enjoy the performances of artists who have decided to present songs in their most honest, acoustic sound. It is on such stages that unexpected duets and interesting improvisations are most often born.

Jazz and Sea

ARTISHOCK

The famous art festival, which has already become an integral part of the Koktebel Jazz Festival, this year also celebrates its small anniversary - its fifth anniversary. ARTISHOCK affects all types and genres of contemporary art from various types of art to literature and independent cinema. The theme of the festival this year is the environment as a social phenomenon that can be viewed from different angles (habitat, cultural environment, media environment, art environment, etc.). By becoming a part of the eco-program, you can not only get a ticket for all days of the festival and take part in exciting eco-events, but also make the holiday even better together with the organizers.

In order for every guest of Koktebel Jazz Festival 2017 to remember him, Leo Burnett will create a film. Cinema, the main characters of which will be music, the sea and all the friends of the festival.

Jazz festival in Koktebel in Crimea has been held since 2003. He owes his appearance to the journalist and great jazz lover Dmitry Kiselev, as well as to his comrades L. Mlinarich, V Solyanik and K. Vyshinsky. Since 2014, the festival has been officially called Koktebel Jazz Party, or simply Jazz Party in Koktebel.

The idea to hold a jazz music festival during the velvet season on the Black Sea coast, in a small resort town, turned out to be very successful. In just a few years, the fame of the event spread not only throughout the countries of Russia and the former Soviet Union, but throughout the world. Musicians come to Koktebel from Europe, America and tropical islands: all in order to plunge into the magical atmosphere of jazz music for three days.

The festival takes place annually on the twentieth of August, approximately on the last weekend of the month. At this time, the velvet season begins in Crimea: the heat subsides, and a refreshing wind begins to blow from the sea. In the evenings and at night it is no longer so hot and stuffy, and the water is warm enough that you can swim in it at any time of the day. During the velvet season, it is most comfortable and pleasant to spend whole days outdoors, enjoying the festival fun.

Since people from all over the world come to the Jazz Festival in Koktebel, it is difficult to get by with one venue. For three days, several scenes work at once: the music does not subside even after dark. Closer to the night, musicians who have already given a concert program gather together in an informal setting to jam (play in a free style with elements of improvisation), so jazz sounds almost around the clock.

"Main", that is, the main stage is located on the seashore, right under the Junge hill. The most eminent world-class musicians perform there. Thus, drummer Jimmy Cobb, multi-instrumentalist from Cuba Gonzalo Rubakalba, saxophonist Robert Anchipolovsky and others have already visited the Jazz Festival in Koktebel. The stars of the Russian music world come here every year.

The other part of the Koktebel Jazz Party takes place in the Voloshin house-museum and on several stages located along the sea. Celebrities and young bands perform at these venues. Guests of the jazz festival in Koktebel will not be bored - they need to have time to move from one stage to another in order to capture as much interesting things as possible.

In addition to festival events, jazz lovers manage to find friends from all over Russia and the world, meet like-minded people and even form their own band. Surprisingly, each Koktebel Jazz Festival is not like the other - perhaps that is why thousands of Russians and foreign guests are looking forward to it.

Date of the jazz festival in Koktebel in 2020

This year there will be 5 stage venues, one of which will traditionally be located in the Voloshin house-museum at ul. Morskaya, 43. Here, eminent musicians will give performances and conduct art history programs.

Despite the fact that these are weekdays, thousands of people will come to the event.

The main stage will be installed on the Black Sea coast under Junge Hill, its address is Morskaya, 87. The largest number of people will gather here, and perhaps a rather big queue will line up at the local box office.

How to get to Koktebel for a jazz festival

Intercity buses run to the city of Koktebel in Crimea: they depart from the bus stations several times a day. Also, the organizers of the festival will launch a transfer Simferopol - Koktebel - Simferopol for the duration of the event. The exact schedule can be found on the official website of Koktebel Jazz Party.

To get to Koktebel on your own, you need to go along the P29 highway. You can get to it from the side of Kerch - along the E97 highway, and from the side of Simferopol - along the P23 highway. You can use taxi services if you drive close (for example, from Feodosia or Sudak): Maxim, Transfly, Crimea Taxi, etc. In Crimea, there is also an application from Yandex. Taxi.

In Koktebel itself, they usually move on foot, since the town is very small. The path to the coastline from the most remote places of the city will take no more than 20 minutes on foot. If necessary, you can take a taxi or rent a bicycle.

Where the Koktebel jazz festival takes place, you will hear from afar - from the very first day, the groovy sounds of music scatter around the town. Go in their direction and you will never go wrong. For convenience, the organizers post signs throughout Koktebel, so you can get to any stage without a map or navigator.
