Behind the high mountains, behind the green meadows, behind the spacious fields rose a dense, impenetrable forest. In its most deaf thicket lived a big bear with two little cubs. The cubs grew and grew and grew. And when they grew up, they left their native lair and went for a walk around the world.

They stomped along the path, bursting through the thickets. A day wandered through the forest, another. And on the third they went to the edge. Here they found a large head of cheese. The cubs decided to share the cheese equally. But how to do that? They wanted to take turns taking bites. But what if one bites off more than the other? Greed overcame the cubs. They argued, argued, almost came to blows. And then a fox ran past.

- What did not share, guys? she asked.

“Cheese is not divided in half,” the cubs complained.

The fox laughed.

“That,” he says, “is simple.

The fox broke the cheese. Yes, so cunningly that one piece turned out to be much larger than the other. Seeing this, the cubs were upset. But the fox reassured them:

- Let's fix it now.

And she bit off a larger piece so that now it has become smaller than the other. The fox chewed the cheese, shook her head and said:

“Oh, guys, I made a mistake. Will have to fix it.

And again she took a bite from a larger piece. And again the pieces are not equal. Lisa ate more. Bear cubs cry:

“And yet that piece is bigger than that!”

The fox has a mouth full of cheese. She chewed and sang softly:

- Wait. Not everything works right away.

I am! - snatched off a good part already from another piece. The cubs greedily looked at the fox, then at the cheese. And know the cheat bites and bites.

Finally, she ate to satiety, gnawed for the last time, and both pieces were equal. Only they were so tiny that the cubs were only one tooth long. And the fox waved its tail and was like that. The cubs were left hungry. So they need it! Next time will not be greedy!

On the other side of the glass mountains, beyond the silk meadow, stood an untravelled, unprecedented dense forest. In an untravelled, unprecedented dense forest, in its very thicket, lived an old bear. The old bear had two sons. When the cubs grew up, they decided to go around the world to look for happiness.

At first they went to their mother and, as expected, said goodbye to her. The old bear hugged her sons and ordered them never to part with each other.

The cubs promised to follow their mother's orders and set off on their way. First they went along the edge of the forest, and from there - into the field. They walked, they walked. And the day went, and another went. Finally, they ran out of supplies. And there was nothing to get along the way.

Downcast cubs wandered side by side.

Hey, brother, how I want to eat! the younger complained.

And even more so for me! The elder shook his head sadly.

So they all walked and walked, until suddenly they came across a large round head of cheese. They wanted to divide it fairly, equally, but failed.

Greed overcame the cubs, each was afraid that the other would get more than half.

They were arguing, cursing, growling, when suddenly a fox approached them.

What are you arguing about, young people? - asked the cheat.

The cubs talked about their trouble.

What is the trouble? - said the fox. - It's not a problem! Let me divide the cheese equally for you: it’s all the same for me that the youngest, that the eldest.

That is good! - the cubs exclaimed with joy. - Delhi!

The fox took the cheese and broke it in two. But the old cheat broke the head so that one piece was larger than the other. The bear cubs screamed:

This one is bigger! The fox reassured them:

Hush, young people! And this trouble is not a problem. A little patience - I'll sort it all out.

She took a good bite out of the larger half and swallowed it. Now the smaller piece is bigger.

And so uneven! - the cubs got worried. The fox looked at them reproachfully.

Well, full, full! - she said. - I know my own business!

And she bit off a hefty piece of more than half. Now the larger piece has become smaller.

And so uneven! cried the cubs in alarm.

May you be! - said the fox, moving his tongue with difficulty, as his mouth was full of delicious cheese. - Just a little more - and it will be equally.

And so the division went. The bear cubs only led with black noses back and forth - from larger to smaller, from smaller to larger piece. Until the fox was satisfied, she divided and divided everything.

By the time the pieces were equal, the cubs had almost no cheese left: two tiny crumbs!

Well, - said the fox, - though little by little, but equally! Bon appetit, bear cubs! She giggled and wagged her tail and ran away. So it is with those who are greedy.

Two greedy bear cubs

In an untraveled, unprecedented dense forest, in its very thicket, lived an old bear. She had two sons. When the cubs grew up, they decided that they would go around the world in search of happiness.

At first they went to their mother and, as expected, said goodbye to her. The old bear hugged her sons and ordered them never to part with each other.

The cubs promised to fulfill their mother's order and set off on their way. They walked, they walked. And the day went, and another went. Finally, they ran out of supplies. The cubs are hungry.

Oh, brother, how I want to eat! the younger complained.

And I want! - said the elder.

So they kept walking and walking and suddenly they found a big round head of cheese. They wanted to share it equally, but failed. Greed overcame the cubs: each was afraid that the other would get the most part.

They argued, cursed, growled, and suddenly, out of nowhere, a fox approached them.

What are you arguing about, young people? - insinuatingly asked the cheat.

The cubs told the fox about their trouble.

What a disaster! - said the fox. - Let me divide the cheese equally for you: it’s all the same for me that the youngest, that the eldest.

- That's good! - the cubs rejoiced. - Delhi!

The fox took the cheese and broke it into two pieces. But the old cheat broke the head so that one piece - it was even visible to the eye - was larger than the other.

The cubs immediately screamed:

This one is bigger!

The fox reassured them:

Hush, young people! And this trouble is not a problem. Little patience. Now I'll take care of everything.

She took a good bite out of most of it and swallowed it. Now the smaller piece is bigger.

And so uneven! - the cubs got worried.

Well, that's enough, - said the fox. - I know my stuff! And she took a bite out of most of it. Now the larger piece has become smaller.

And so uneven! - shouted the cubs.

The fox looked at them reproachfully.

Well, full, full! - she said. - I know my business!

And she took a big bite out of most of it. Now the larger piece has become smaller.

And so uneven! cried the cubs in alarm.

And so the division went. The cubs only with black noses led back and forth, back and forth: from a larger piece to a smaller one, from a smaller one to a larger one.

Until the fox was satisfied, she divided and divided everything.

By the time the pieces were equal, the cubs had almost no cheese left: two crumbs!

Well, - said the fox, - though little by little, but equally! Bon appetit, bear cubs! - the fox giggled and, waving its tail, ran away.

So it is with those who are greedy!
