Correct World of Tanks settings are the key to efficiency! Setting up graphics in WOT

World of tanks is a multiplayer online game released in 2010. Since its appearance, the toy has won the hearts of thousands and even millions of fans, the number of which is only increasing every day. This is not surprising, because the game allows you to plunge into virtual world head-on battles and try yourself as a tactical weapons commander. The main advantage of the gameplay is its absolute similarity to reality and the ability to play in team battles. This is a strategy game with action elements. The developers even took into account the laws of physics, aerodynamics and the like. For example, the damage received depends on the purpose and class of the ammunition, its destructive power and the angle of impact.

Despite its popularity, many have heard about the game, but do not know where to get it or how to install world of tanks. It's quite simple. Continue reading the article and you will definitely learn if you didn’t already know!

Download the client

Open a link to the game’s home page (http://worldoftanks.ru) through any Internet browser. The manufacturer's website will open. The sections of the portal are presented at the top of the page. Move the mouse over the “Game” section and left-click. The game description page will open. There you can learn more about the project, see a guide to actions, find out what will happen in future versions of the product and download the game itself. You need to click on the “Download Game” button to go to the Word of Tanks download page. Carefully look at the system requirements for your computer. If your computer does not meet even the minimum requirements, then the game will most likely not install, and even if the installation is successful, you will not be able to fully enjoy the gameplay due to constant computer freezes.

Pay special attention to the speed of your Internet connection. If everything suits you, feel free to click on the “Download game” button. The installer will begin downloading. Depending on the type of browser, a window will appear where you need to select the download folder and, if necessary, change the file name. The downloaded file weighs about five megabytes, do not indulge yourself in illusions, this is not a game yet. This file is an Internet installer that automatically downloads the necessary files for the game. If you don't know how to install world of tanks on your computer, follow the tips below. Before running the downloaded file, it is recommended to close all other programs that use the Internet connection or load the system.

Setting up download options

Launch the downloaded file. If antivirus or other security programs display a notification or ask you to allow the installer program access to the network, don’t be afraid to click OK. After launch, the installation window will appear. It is no different from the usual installation of another game or other software. Just click “Next” and check the boxes you need and remove the unnecessary ones. In the “Additional Actions” section, two items will be checked: “Install DirectX” and “Add the game to the Firewall exception.”

Be sure to leave the first option enabled if you have never installed DirectX before. Without it, the game will not start at all. As for the second point, you can uncheck or leave the checkbox, depending on whether you are using the system’s standard firewall or not. If you use it and disable the checkbox, then you will not be able to connect to a network game, because the system will block the connection. After this, click “Next”.

The game type selection section will open. It is usually selected automatically, depending on your computer configuration. SD game kit is standard. This is the same full version games, but the texture detail there is less than in the HD version. But the latter requires more free disk space. Attention! Downloading a game takes up a large amount of Internet traffic, so make sure that it is free (unlimited). Then click “Next” until the installation of the game client begins.

After this, the installation (download) program for the game itself should open. It will automatically download necessary files, various notifications may appear on the screen, so do not move too far from the monitor.

Create your account

In order not to waste time, let's create a free account for the game. This can be done on the product website. Remember how we downloaded the client from there? We go again to the home page of the game (http://worldoftanks.ru), at the very top on the right edge we see the words “Login or Create an account”. Where do we click? That's right, "Create an account." The user registration page will open. Enter all the required information and complete registration. You can register using your social pages, it will be faster. Clicks the appropriate button on the page. Don't forget your username and password for the game, you will need them later.

After the installation is complete, which the program will notify you about, you can proceed directly to gameplay. Now you know how to install world of tanks on a PC and you can teach it to others. No special skills were required for this. Have a great time.

How to increase FPS in World of Tanks- a question that began to torment many tankers after the introduction of improved graphics in World of Tanks. On weak computers, problems with low FPS or its jumps appeared. A must read, if you want to know how I increased the average frames per second in World of Tanks almost twice!

Before you start

Triple buffering- method of displaying an image in computer graphics, allowing to avoid or reduce the number of artifacts. Triple buffering allows for faster image output compared to double buffering.

However, it is worth noting that both of these options should be enabled if you have a sufficiently powerful video card. Do your own tests and you will understand. I for example in all my tests I left vertical sync and triple buffer enabled- this is how my FPS increased, sometimes very significantly (depending on the location).

System and environment

For a comfortable game, it is very important that the game has enough RAM. If you have 2 gigs of RAM or less, I strongly recommend closing ALL programs you don’t need, such as ICQ, Skype, background defragmenters, desktop widgets, players (especially iTunes) and other unnecessary software.

Also, some antiviruses and firewalls have a “Game” mode, in which the operation of the system will be optimized so that the antivirus does not slow it down.

In general, the goal is to free up as much RAM as possible. You can also enter the task manager using the combination CTRL+Shift+ESC(simultaneously) and see which processes are consuming more RAM and CPU resources. Just please do not close processes whose purpose you are not sure of! This may cause the system to crash.

How I conducted FPS tests in World of Tanks

I ran a series of tests, measuring FPS with different graphics settings. In addition to the settings of the game itself, I edited the file preferences.xml, and also changed the settings of the video card, which we have already discussed above.

Purpose of the test- set the optimal settings for receiving maximum FPS in the game World of Tanks. You can also do these tests yourself to set the highest possible graphics settings for a comfortable game, so the article will be very detailed. I strongly recommend that everyone do these same tests, since everyone has different hardware and the same game settings may not work the same on different computers.

To take FPS readings I used the program Fraps(fraps.com), which, by the way, can also record video, but we don’t need this function for our tasks. You can, of course, be guided by the frames per second counter built into the game, but Fraps has one undeniable advantage.

We are talking about recording the FPS indicator in a log file, which is very convenient for my test, since it clearly demonstrates the FPS statistics. Logging is done by pressing the hotkey (by default F11), optionally the log can be kept for a limited period of time - I set it to 100 seconds, this is quite enough. In 100 seconds you can drive a tank to your heart's content, move the camera around, get involved in battle, and, in general, do a stress test for the video card. The log is written to two files:

  • text, indicating the average, minimum and maximum FPS values;
  • table in csv format(Excel) in which FPS is displayed per second.

Below in the screenshot you will see the Fraps program and its interface. The free version has all the features we need.

To collect FPS statistics, we are specifically interested in this tab shown in the picture. Let's figure out what it all means there.

  • Line Folder to save benchmarks in- path to the folder where the FPS log (log files) will be saved. For my convenience, I defined a folder on my desktop to make it easier to find.
  • Benchmark hotkey- a key that, when pressed, starts recording FPS readings to a log file.
  • Benchmark Settings - data that will be written to the log. A tick on FPS is enough for us.
  • Stop benchmark after- if the checkbox is checked, logging will be stopped after the specified period of time after pressing the hotkey.

I didn't touch the rest of the settings. If you don’t want to conduct tests yourself, then you don’t need to download Fraps, you can read the article to the end and make the indicated changes in the game and computer settings.

Looking ahead, I want to say that the number of frames per second may vary not only because of the graphics settings, but also because of the map to which the great random sent you. Thus, FPS on desert maps is usually higher than on city maps. This is explained by the fact that the city has more different objects, such as houses, bridges and other buildings, the rendering of which requires much more video card resources than desert landscapes. Therefore, I carried out tests of the same settings several times on different game cards.

FPS testing in World of Tanks

The first test, let's call it "FPS 1".

So, Fraps is installed and running, it's time to log into World of Tanks and measure FPS. For the first test I chose Auto detection in the graphics settings in the game. The game engine, having requested data on the system characteristics, concluded that my laptop could handle:

  • improved graphics
  • lighting, shadows, average detail, as well as average water quality.

Well, it’s debatable, of course, but let’s try to play like this. The battle has started, I wait for the 30 second countdown and press F11 to start recording FPS in the log. I skated several battles with these settings and you will see the average test results below:

  • Avg: 26.84
  • Min: 9
  • Max: 43

Avg - average FPS value; min and max I think are clear. It was not very comfortable to play - frequent FPS drops and stuttering. Because of this, several unpleasant leaks occurred.

Test two, FPS 2

For this test, I decided to independently determine the graphics settings in the game. I set everything to minimum except the draw distance. I won’t dwell on this point for long, just take my word for it - Draw distance did not affect FPS at all, so leave it at maximum.

For this test I set:

  • standard graphics;
  • everything else is set to minimum or disabled, except for the drawing distance - it is set to maximum.

Test result:

  • Avg: 35.1
  • Min: 18
  • Max: 62

Well, that's not bad! There is an increase, the minimum drawdown has doubled, which was reflected in the gameplay in the fact that there were no strong brakes. Average level FPS increased by 8.26 units, which in principle is also not bad, but there was no desire to stop there.

Test three, FPS 3

This test turned out to be a little different from the others and you will soon understand why. Firstly, I left all the settings as in the second test, but changed the graphics from standard to enhanced. And what do you think? FPS became a little better than in the second test (literally by a few units). But, as I already said, I didn’t want to stop there. Still, the developers were right about the new render;)

To further increase game performance, I overclocked my video card. This is also called overclocking. I was very pleased with the result.

Overclocking video cards

Attention! You do all the following actions solely at your own peril and risk!

"Well, it's very difficult!" - you say and you will Not are right. Today, overclocking a video card is very simple and with a head with brains, and not a hole into which you eat, it is also safe. Before overclocking your video card, you need to prepare your computer.

The most important thing in overclocking a video card is its proper cooling. To measure the temperature of a video card, install some widget on your desktop, for example GPU Meter. In the passive state, the temperature of the video card should be in the range of 50-60 degrees Celsius, and in the active state (in the game) no more than 85-90; if higher, you have problems with its cooling.

To cool the video card, you can install an additional cooler if your system unit can accommodate it, or, if you have a laptop, you can buy a special stand for it with additional cooling fans. If it overheats, it certainly won’t melt, but only if your PC has an emergency shutdown (almost all laptops have such a feature).

It would also be a good idea to replace the thermal paste on the video card board and other places if you have never done this before and you have had your computer for a long time. You can again find out how to apply thermal paste on Google; there are even a lot of videos about this on YouTube.

As for me, I completely disassembled my laptop in order to clean all the dust from all the boards and replace the thermal paste. Real hardcore, but unfortunately that’s not what the article is about. By the way, after assembly it works great, I write from it. Maybe open your own workshop?

Let's assume that you now have everything in order with temperature and cooling, so how to overclock? To do this, you don’t need to disassemble anything, just download and install one of the utilities listed below:

  1. Riva Tuner is a utility for overclocking Nvidia-based cards. More suitable for professionals, as it has a huge number of settings. You can easily get confused if you don't know what's what.
  2. - a very easy-to-learn utility that supports Nvidia and AMD cards, so it’s suitable for almost everyone. You can read about the capabilities and see the list of supported cards, and download the program itself from here (links to the official website of the program).

Let's launch the program. In it you can control the power of your video card, as well as the frequency of its processor + several other functions. It looks like this:

Unfortunately (or fortunately) on my laptop you cannot control the power of the video card, as well as the rotation speed of its cooler (because it does not have a separate cooler), but you can change the frequency of the processor and memory. Let's not go too deep into the subtleties, if you're interested, google all the concepts, but initial stage I recommend the following (it's safer):

  • increase values only Core Clock And Memory Clock;
  • increase NECESSARILY gradually, about 5-10% and constantly monitor the temperature of the video card!
  • DO NOT SET THE MAXIMUM VALUES IMMEDIATELY! Burn your card, then don’t come to me with complaints.

On the right side, the program shows all the necessary statistics of the video card. What is indicated on the graphs is signed in the program itself, you’ll figure it out. After setting the new Core and Memory clock values, you must press the button Apply for the changes to take effect. There is no need to restart your computer, changes happen instantly.

Before running to measure FPS in the game, I carefully adjusted the overclocking of the card, choosing a mode in which the card did not heat up above 85 degrees at maximum load. For this purpose the program 3D Mark was used. Again, I won’t go too deep into this issue; I’ll just show the results of my tests:

  • without overclocking: 6371 points
  • with overclocking: 7454 points

Now let's return to World of Tanks, test three, aka FPS 3

Having selected the optimal overclocking mode for the video card, I launched WOT and logged the FPS readings in several battles. Here are the averages:

  • Avg: 39.90
  • Min: 11
  • Max: 82

For the first time in the history of the game in World of Tanks, I saw an FPS value greater than 80! Despite the smallest drops of the three tests - 11 FPS, the game was much more comfortable. The tanks started flying!

Comparative analysis

I ended up running three different graphics settings tests on my computer. In each test, I skated at least 10 battles in various locations, and then averaged the data and this is what happened:

FPS test 1: Auto-detection of graphics settings - improved graphics, lighting, shadows, average detail, as well as average quality of water and effects.

FPS 2 test: Custom setting - standard graphics, everything else is off or low except draw distance, which is at maximum.

FPS 3 test: custom setting - improved graphics, all other settings at the very minimum, or turned off completely (effects for example, lighting, shadows); drawing distance - maximum + overclocking the video card using MSI Afterburner (you don’t have to overclock it, everything will still be ok).

All tests had grass and track tracks turned off.

Test results in graphs and figures

Graph of FPS changes per second (tests were carried out for 100 seconds). Y axis - FPS, x axis - time:

Average FPS values for three tests:

In the end I managed to increase average FPS from 26 to 40 (rounded), which was an increase of approximately 1.5 times! And the peak value increased from 43 to 82, which is already twice as good.

In custody

If the advice in this article did not help you, then three conclusions follow:

  1. You did something wrong, you made a mistake somewhere.
  2. Nothing will help you anymore due to the fact that the computer is very weak to begin with. It is necessary to upgrade (first of all the processor).
  3. Windows is completely screwed up and needs to be reinstalled. I noticed that over time, these tips in the article began to help less, even to me, the author of the article. And I have already stopped seeing the target 80 FPS. The solution was to reinstall the system and voila - everything works like a clock again!

Thank you all very much for your attention, you can also leave your tips for increasing FPS in World of Tanks in the comments.

The new render is a more technologically advanced and modern mechanism for working with graphics. Thanks to it, developers were able to add a large number of graphic elements that the old system either did not support at all or did not support effectively enough. A large number of such innovations appeared in the game already with the release of version 0.8.0.

  1. Texture quality. The option does not depend on the card's performance, but is demanding on video memory. It is recommended not to set high values on older computers. The option is available in both enhanced and standard graphics versions.
  2. Quality of decals. (Special view geometry, which allows you to increase the detail of game environments). This option is responsible for the quality of image detail. Traces of dirt, fallen leaves, knocked out paving slabs - all this is regulated by setting the decals. The more “fine detail” you want to see on the screen, the more powerful your computer needs to be. This option does not depend very much on the performance of the video card, but is demanding on the amount of video memory. For weak computers, it is recommended to install on low level, or turn it off altogether. This option is not available for standard graphics.
  3. Quality of shadows. IN new version Shadow graphics have been completely redesigned. Their drawing now corresponds to the real scale of the object, its position in relation to the light source. The shadows are completely dynamic: if a tree sways, the shadow sways with it, a falling pillar casts a “falling” shadow. All this needs to be calculated, so the quality of shadows depends quite heavily on the overall performance of the system, including the video card and central processor. You should not set shadow quality to high unless you are sure that your computer resources will be sufficient. The option is not available for the standard graphic scheme.
  4. Water quality. Compared to previous versions, the image of water has been improved, new effects have appeared: circles from hits, more advanced reflections, splashes, which are also calculated. Water optimization is still in progress, so this setting should also be noted. This parameter depends on the power of the video card. Lowering the water image quality should improve game performance. The option is only available for the enhanced graphics scheme.
  5. Lighting quality. In the new render, lighting is calculated in more detail. The player receives a more detailed and high-quality picture that better reflects the atmosphere of the game map. There are transitions between darker and lighter areas. Game performance with this setting depends on the power of the video card. Owners of low-power video cards should set this parameter to the minimum value or disable it. The option is only available for the enhanced graphics scheme.
  6. Tree quality. On maps that have been reworked, the trees have been reconfigured and optimized; on other maps, improvements will come in subsequent updates. Game performance with this option depends on the power and memory capacity of the installed video card. The maximum quality level is only available for the enhanced graphics design.
  7. Vegetation quality. The option is responsible for displaying grass and low bushes in which tanks cannot hide. Depends both on the performance of the video card and on the amount of video memory. The option is not available when using the standard graphical scheme, since vegetation is calculated using new methods. Note that optimization of vegetation in terms of resource requirements is still ongoing.
  8. Additional effects. Here you can adjust the display of smoke, dust, sparks, flames, explosions, etc. The display quality of all these objects depends not so much on the video card as on the central processor. Therefore, if you do not have a very powerful PC, it is recommended to set the quality level as low as possible. The option is available for both enhanced and standard graphics schemes.
  9. Post-processing(various additional graphic effects: air refraction, bloom effect, etc.). This option is in the optimization stage, but is already ready for use. It depends quite strongly on the performance of the video card and moderately on the amount of video memory. On weak computers, it is recommended to set the minimum value or disable it. This option is only available when using the enhanced graphics scheme.
    1. Draw distance(how far from the player the game landscape is displayed). The option depends quite heavily on the performance of the computer as a whole, so for low-power computers you should set the rendering distance to medium or low. Available for both enhanced and standard graphics schemes.
    2. Detailing of objects. Detail and detail of the image of objects environment. Depends both on the performance of the video card and on the amount of video memory. It is recommended to set the quality to Medium or Low on low-power computers. Available for both enhanced and standard graphics.
    3. Additional effects in sniper mode. Everything is the same as in the previous paragraph, only applied to the sniper aiming mode. Let us add that the game developers are well aware of the problem of performance degradation in sniper mode. On this moment a temporary solution has been found that partially eliminates this problem. Work to find a comprehensive solution is in full swing, and Wargaming specialists are making every effort to ensure that the problem is resolved as soon as possible.

Fine-tuning all of the above items allows you to increase fps.
Another one known issue is a problem related to anti-aliasing. Currently, developers are using a temporary solution to this problem. Work to find the optimal way out of the situation continues.

For those who have not been able to achieve high performance from their computer even after carrying out the necessary manipulations with manual settings, we recommend using the standard graphics option. It will always be present in the game, and although the developers do not plan to introduce new graphical features for it, general optimization and improvement of the appearance of the landscape on game maps will be carried out for the standard graphics scheme.

Due to the introduction of HD cards and new music version 1.0 will be one of the most important stages V World stories of Tanks. Realistic graphics appeared thanks to Core - our own engine, which breathed life into game locations. With the transition to this engine, the graphic settings will be reset. Don't worry, we will explain in detail how to set everything up. And today we’ll talk about how to make settings for your computer and how the automatic settings detection function works.

Please be patient: there will be a lot of technical information (but it is useful!). And if you don’t like to read long articles, you can watch a video about game settings or use information blocks to go straight to the questions you are interested in. Go!

Automatic detection of graphics settings in tanks 1.0

The auto-detection feature is activated in two cases: when you launch the game for the first time and when you click on the “Recommended” button in the graphics settings. This feature evaluates game performance on your computer using new algorithms for the processor, graphics card, graphics memory, system memory, and other system performance tests. After carrying out all these tests, the system determines the golden mean between a comfortable FPS (frames per second) and the quality of graphics on your computer and sets one of the ready-made settings: “Minimum”, “Low”, “Medium”, “High”, “Maximum” "or "Ultra".

Important! Differences in performance between client versions 1.0 and 9.22 may also be due to autotuning results. As before, the highest quality picture for your PC will be displayed while maintaining comfortable performance. If the frames per second value does not suit you, try adjusting the client’s graphic settings yourself.

NOTE: Please note that the old and new settings are not mapped to each other as the game is moving to a new graphics engine. The “Minimum” and “Low” settings work with standard graphics, while “Medium” and above work with enhanced graphics.

IMPORTANT: The SD client offers the same set of graphics presets as the HD client, so you can enjoy the new cards even if you play with standard graphics. The only difference is that the SD client does not support high-resolution textures.

How it works

The auto-detection system tries to find a balance between the best graphics settings and frames per second. Please note that you may notice changes in FPS after automatic detection compared to the previous version (we have already talked about this, but we will repeat it because it is really important), since our main goal is to provide the highest quality picture with comfortable performance indicators. Essentially, the feature may offer an option that will result in FPS changes, but only if such changes are not critical to the game's performance.

If you're not happy with the frames per second after running auto-detection, select lower graphics settings - this will significantly improve performance (for example, select the "Medium" settings if the system offered you the "High" option). However, we do not recommend switching from improved rendering to standard rendering if autotuning suggested it to you. You will significantly lose picture quality, but performance can be improved by further adjusting the graphics settings.

Still not satisfied with the result? Then change the preset settings as you like.

Manual graphics settings in WoT update 1.0

Selecting a Graphics Type

When setting up manually, you will initially be able to select the graphics type: “Standard” or “Enhanced”. Both of them are remastered in HD quality. The only difference between them is that “Enhanced” supports a full range of new technologies and effects.

NOTE: If, after auto-tuning, the game client prompts you to choose the “Enhanced” graphics type, we recommend using it. If the performance does not suit you, you can change the advanced graphics settings yourself, but we do not recommend switching to the standard renderer.

Advanced graphics settings in World of Tanks 1.0

Some graphics settings have a greater impact on client performance than others. By lowering the correct setting, you can achieve good FPS without significantly reducing image quality. We recommend starting with effects (anti-aliasing, texture and object quality, draw distance, lighting and post-processing). These are resource intensive settings and cutting them down will help improve FPS in most cases.

NOTE: All computers have different configurations, and exactly the same settings changes may have different effects on different PCs.

Browse the list below to become familiar with each of the settings and see how they all affect the picture. Graphics settings are grouped starting with the most resource-intensive ones to make it clearer which ones to turn off first.

Anti-Aliasing: Smoothes out rough pixels or jagged edges of objects using different technologies in Standard and Enhanced Graphics.
- In Standard graphics, anti-aliasing is optional and is not tied to graphics presets.
- In Enhanced Graphics, anti-aliasing is necessary to ensure best picture and is tied to graphics presets.

Texture quality: affects the resolution and type of filtering used. The higher the level of detail, the better. However, be aware that this setting is resource intensive. Maximum texture quality includes HD textures in the HD client.

Quality of objects. The detailing of objects affects the level of detail (Level of Detail - LOD). For each object, several options are created with different levels of detail. The closer the player is to an object, the more detailed that object is depicted. This eliminates the need for highly detailed objects at long distances when careful rendering is not needed, and saves performance resources. Moreover, the higher the quality of the settings, the greater the distance from the player the object detail settings are switched. This parameter also affects the realism of tank tracks. At “Medium” settings and below, they are rendered in a simplified form.

Draw distance: affects the distance at which objects are displayed. This setting only applies to objects that are not critical to the game. For example, the monastery on the map of the same name will be the same in all settings, but the fences around the fields will be different.

Why is optimal draw distance important for your computer? On some maps, with a short rendering range, the enemy may be behind a small obstacle - and you will not know about it until you shoot at him.

Lighting and post-processing:
1. Motion blur and post-processing are cinematic effects similar to vignetting, chromatic aberration, distortion and film grain. They support the overall impression of the graphics.
2. We removed the quality of shadows from the “Basic” settings in update 1.0 due to significant optimization of the mechanisms for their transmission.
3. The quality of lighting is extremely important for the overall perception of the image. Lighting interacts with all other graphic elements. Depending on the selected quality, the complexity of its calculations varies: it depends on certain technologies (Screen Space Reflection, Global Illumination, God Rays, Lens Flare, HBAO, the effect of getting wet and puddles).

Terrain and Water: The impact of water quality on performance varies depending on the map type. Locations with marine theme(“Fjords”, “Fisherman’s Bay”, “Calm”) consume slightly more resources than those without water.

We have completely redesigned the landscape: improved its quality, added support for tessellation, which was also redesigned specifically for “Enhanced” graphics. Now this technology will work on video cards that fully support DirectX 11 (but will not be available with “Standard” graphics, since the landscape will be simplified to improve performance).

Small stones, tracks of tracks, shell craters will receive a geometric shape with additional detail. This is just a graphical improvement and will not affect the behavior of the car.

You can disable tessellation to improve performance in sniper mode and also to prevent the technology from interfering with your aiming.

Vegetation: The level of detail of vegetation affects the complexity of calculating the effect of wind on trees (there is no wind in the SD client). The higher the quality of the grass, the more there will be. You can lower this setting to increase FPS.

IMPORTANT: The disguise mechanic works the same regardless of the settings selected.

Effects: allow you to customize the required quality of explosions, fire, smoke and other similar effects. This parameter can be useful in battle, since such effects indicate which enemy vehicles have just been shot at (there will be puffs of smoke around them). When adjusting the quality of effects, keep in mind the benefits they provide.

Improved destruction physics thanks to Havok Destruction technology means that objects can fall apart. If this functionality is disabled, detailed damage will not be displayed. The setting only works with “Enhanced” graphics and is calculated in separate threads. You can disable this functionality if your computer's processor is not powerful enough.

In the last article we talked about which one is needed and this is the primary condition for a comfortable game. But no less important is the correct setting of the game parameters.

Correct settings are the key to a comfortable game! Now we will briefly look at all the game settings and pay special attention to graphics settings.

1. General settings

The “Game” tab contains general settings.

In the “Chat” section, you can enable message censorship so that stars are displayed instead of swear words (recommended for children). Here you can also disable spam, invitations to a platoon, friend requests and messages from those who are not in your contact list (friends). Personally, I'm fed up with these messages, I turned off the chat altogether and am enjoying the game

In the “Types of random battles” section, you can disable “Encounter battle” and “Assault”. These modes use the same maps as in random battles, but the location of the bases and victory conditions have been changed. In the “Encounter Battle” mode, there is one common base and the team that captures it or destroys all opponents wins. In Assault mode, one team defends the base, the other defends. To win, the Defenders must prevent the base from being captured and at least one team member survive. To win, the Attackers need to capture the base or destroy all opponents at any cost. Personally, I don’t like these types of fights, but you can try them for a change and see if they suit your taste.

In the “Combat Interface” section, you can turn off the effect of optics (the green background in the sight) so that it does not spoil the picture, and turn off the display of the vehicle that destroyed you (if this makes you nervous).

Be sure to check the “Enable dynamic camera” and “Horizontal stabilization in the sniper scope” checkboxes, otherwise it’s simply impossible to shoot on the move, the scope dangles in all directions!

I uncheck the “Show vehicle markers on the scoreboard” and “Show combat effectiveness tapes” checkboxes, because I don’t see the point in them, they are just distracting.

As for the minimap options (camera direction beam, SPG firing sector and additional features), I disable them because I am using a minimap mod with advanced capabilities, which I will tell you about in the next article. This is important, if you, like me, use the minimap mod, then disable these parameters so that they are not duplicated, thereby reducing performance.

When the “Record battles” option is enabled, small files (replays) will be recorded in the “replays” folder, which is located in the game folder, which can then be viewed. This almost does not affect the performance of the game and you can easily share them with friends or upload them to the site “wotreplays.ru” so that other users can watch how you bend But these are not video files, they can only be played by the game itself and stop working after exit next patch. Therefore, if you want to post a video on YouTube or save the history of your victories for posterity, do not forget to digitize the best replays after hard battles using some program for recording video from the screen (ShadowPlay, Bandicam, Fraps).

Well, by checking the last checkbox “Display distinctive marks” you can compare barrels with players in the game. Stars or notches (from 1 to 3) received in battles for great services to the homeland will be displayed on the barrel of your tank

Immediately when you switch to the Graphics tab, the screen settings are displayed.

If you have just installed the game and it is still displayed in a window and not on the full screen, then check the “Full screen” box and click the “Apply” button. Only after this you need to select “Screen Resolution”. If you have a liquid crystal (flat-panel, TFT) monitor, then choose the maximum resolution and leave the frame rate at 60. If you still have a fucking box of a picture tube (CRT) monitor on your desk, then a resolution of 1280x1024 with a frequency of 85 Hz is usually suitable for it ( or 75 Hz). Click “Apply” and if everything is displayed normally (not stretched or flickering), then this is good. If you cannot find the resolution you need or the image appears stretched, then try also changing the “Screen Aspect Ratio”.

In the Graphics Quality field, you can manually select low, medium, high, or maximum quality. This will install the appropriate set of settings, which we will talk about next. If you are not playing on a calculator (a very weak laptop), then make sure that the “3D render resolution” slider is set to 100% and uncheck “Dynamic change”, otherwise the picture in the game will be blurry.

It is better not to enable the “Vertical Sync” option, as it negatively affects performance. This is only required in case of noticeable frame tearing and is applicable on high-end gaming PCs. The “Triple Buffering” setting is needed to improve the performance of the video card when “Vertical Sync” is enabled, but it affects the performance of the processor that performs this buffering.

The Anti-aliasing parameter improves the picture, it becomes softer and more natural, but this significantly loads the video card and is designed for powerful gaming PCs. In this field you can select different anti-aliasing modes from lighter (FXAA) to quite heavy (TSSAA-HQ).

“Viewing Angle (FoV)” specifies the location of the camera relative to your tank. That is, the angle at which you will look at it. The default is set to 95 degrees and "Dynamic FoV" is disabled. Nobody really complains about these settings, so you can leave everything as it is. If you want to experiment, then you now know how everything was, so that you can put it back in place later

The “Gamma” parameter adjusts the brightness, but don’t touch it in vain, it’s better to reset your monitor to default settings, since the game is well calibrated.

“Color filter” is a gourmet option that imposes a different background in the game, similar to the effects in cameras. I tried it, it’s glamorous but useless...

Well, “Color Blind Mode” is intended for people with vision problems.

On the same “Graphics” tab, if you click on the “Advanced” button, the graphics quality settings will be displayed.

At the very top there are the already familiar “Recommended” button for automatically selecting the optimal parameters, the “Graphics Quality” field for setting a set of settings from low to maximum, the “3D render resolution” slider, which should be at 100%, and the “Dynamic change” checkbox. , which should not have a check mark.

As graphics quality increases, the frame rate per second (FPS) decreases. It is believed that a person sees 24 frames per second and for the smoothness of the picture it is desirable that the game produces at least 30 FPS. But from my own experience I can say that normal game dynamics start at 60 FPS.

What is the difference between low dynamics and high dynamics? With low dynamics, your tank drives like a Zhiguli (it just stalls), although maybe like a BMW. I have felt this more than once and you will feel it if you follow my advice! Extras (majors) have powerful computers that, even with high graphics settings, produce decent FPS (100 or more). Therefore, they feel the dynamics in the game much better, the machine subtly reacts to every fiber of the soul and they play more efficiently. And on a fast ST or LT without dynamics it’s generally sad... I’m not even talking about supercomputers that are used in e-sports. This is exactly what they are needed for - for dynamics.

An online game is not a single-player shooter and what is important in it is victory over a live opponent, and not sluggish participation in a meat grinder with bots. Then the game gives that desired moral satisfaction after hard work, and not frustration and a bottle of vodka. Convinced, no? Then read on

I have a mid-range gaming PC and it runs the game at maximum graphics settings, delivering 40 FPS. At high settings it produces an average of 60 FPS. In the settings window that I provided above, you can select the graphics type “Standard” or “Enhanced”. So, despite what the hardware allows, I have long preferred to play on standard graphics, without any extra extras.

Just like that, simply and angrily, yes. But what a pleasure the game brings when you race on a bachata (or at least a four-wheeler) at a speed of 100-150 FPS! And there’s not a speck of dust in your eye, no clouds of smoke and rising earth from a T92 shell that fell nearby, no scary grass painted schoolchildren for ice cream highly paid designers, no fog that prevents you from aiming the T95 hatch from 500 meters, no other nasty graphic innovations that turn a BMW into a Zhiguli and prevent you from playing effectively.

Many computers handle standard graphics much better, the FPS is many times higher, and nothing prevents you from manually setting the available sliders to high parameters, at which the picture turns out to be quite neat, clean and dynamic!

I also recommend turning off grass and effects in sniper mode (they are very annoying), foliage transparency (makes the game even cleaner and faster), tracks and effects from under the tracks (you never look at them at all). “Quality extra. effects" it is better not to set it above average or turn it off altogether, since they also interfere (for example, when an artillery shell explodes nearby). It’s better to uncheck the “Dynamically change the quality of effects” checkbox; there’s no need for the graphics in the game to float.

In addition to high dynamics and clarity of the picture, you will receive some pleasant bonuses that you will notice as the game progresses (for example, thanks to the transparency of the water, you can clearly see the bottom topography and where you can drive along it). Try it, play for a while and you will notice that you have become more effective at playing. The main thing is not to rush forward on the wings of FPS

I don't promise anything, because I don't eat ties or caps. But if you still don't like the standard graphics, just change the settings. The screenshot below shows the settings for improved graphics, providing an optimal quality/performance ratio for an average-power PC.

Download detailed description settings for improved graphics, how they affect image quality, what load they put on the video card and processor, you can see in the “” section.

And also, if you need to restart the game to apply the settings, a corresponding message will appear. In any case, I recommend restarting the game if you make major changes to graphics settings.

When we get to mods, there are still interesting opportunities to make the picture cleaner and the sight more stable

If, despite all the settings, your computer is sorely lacking in performance, consider installing a new level of GTX 1050 Ti or 1060.

Here is a screenshot of the settings in the Sound tab.

Everything seems clear here, so I’ll just add a little personal experience.

I turn off the music right away, it interferes with the game no less than the improved graphics

If you do not use a microphone in team battles, then disable voice communication by unchecking the only checkbox. Turn it on if necessary. Communication works on the principle of a walkie-talkie - you press the microphone activation button (Q), say, release and listen to others. Anyone who holds the button for a long time pollutes the air with noise from his microphone (computer, apartment).

The microphone must be connected before starting the game. If your microphone is not always on, then after connecting it it is better to restart the computer, otherwise it may not work or work poorly. First check through the Skype testing service that the microphone is working normally, you can be heard well and there is no noise strong background. If necessary, increase (or decrease) the microphone sensitivity in the system settings (in Windows 7: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Manage audio devices\Recording).

Then launch the game, enable voice communication and select your microphone in the appropriate field. The Player Voice Volume setting affects how you hear others. The default “microphone sensitivity” should be sufficient; at level 70 and up, your voice may begin to hum and cause discomfort to other players, do not overdo it with this parameter and ask your comrades not “How can you hear me?”, but “Is it too loud?” ?. I usually reduce the “general ambient volume level during a conversation” to 50, this muffles all the sounds of the game at the moment when a comrade speaks to you and you don’t have to ask him again.

Well, the last one, but not the most new feature– national voice acting. I usually leave the standard one, because who knows what the crew of a Chinese tank is babbling there, but it’s worth a try, it’s a challenging thing

And yet, there is some other “Start test” button, which I just noticed. Try it, tell me later in the comments

In the mods we will also install sound on the light bulb, what a song!

With the settings on the “Management” tab, everything is even simpler.

But I will still give some advice. I recommend reducing the sensitivity of the sniper scope and increasing the sensitivity of the artillery scope. Set it approximately like in my screenshot. This will give higher aiming accuracy when you are in a tank, since with high sensitivity, especially at medium and long distances, it is difficult to target enemies, the sight moves too quickly. And when you’re on the art, on the contrary, you’re tired of dragging the scope back and forth across the entire map with low sensitivity, and the mat gets erased...

Don’t even think about turning on any inversion, only plums will work

And one more good piece of advice. If you have a mouse with additional buttons, then you can assign a specific consumables cell to one of them. In cells 1-3, the types of projectiles are switched and there is no need to touch them. But in cells 4-6 there may be manually activated consumables. For example, I install a fire extinguisher in the first cell, which corresponds to key 4 on the keyboard. Instead of key 4, I long ago assigned the side button on the mouse in the game settings. This allows you to quickly put out a fire in the event of a fire, rather than searching for the right button on the keyboard while the ammunition explodes. In addition, if there is an increased risk of fire, for example, an AMX 1390 came aft of you and is glad that it got to the soft one, then it won’t hurt to click at that time side mouse button for prevention! Works like an automatic fire extinguisher, but costs 7 times less

In the next article about mods, I will tell you how to assign several keys to one action and shoot more accurately! And, if you mess up the control settings, there is a “Default” button there

Go to the “Sight” tab.

Well, there’s nothing to say at all. You can adjust the size and shape of the sight, which I once tried. But the default settings are close to optimal, except perhaps make the size larger. Yes, and somewhere there is a sight with an indication selected. If you point it at the enemy's VLD (upper frontal part), it turns red, if you point it at the NLD (you can guess it yourself), it turns green. In general, it makes it clear whether your projectile can penetrate armor in this place. Red - no, green - yes.

But don’t bother with this, since in the article about mods we will install a more convenient sight with the correct indication that takes into account the angle of entry of the projectile!

Well, I just have to say that on this tab there are two more pads (pun intended) for setting up a separate arcade (3rd person) and sniper sight (in optics).

Here you can customize various icons above the tanks.

I somehow made the optimal settings for myself and they were saved, since now most of the settings (except for graphics and sound, in my opinion) are stored on the server and are pulled up from it again, even if the game is completely reinstalled.

There are also pads for setting up markers for allies, enemies and destroyed vehicles. For allies, they are the same there, but for destroyed ones, only the model of the vehicle for reference, the rest is disabled so as not to interfere with the screen.

I’m telling you everything honestly, but I still hope that you will install the right mods and you won’t have to configure anything manually.

8. Removing unnecessary files

And finally, a little more useful information. You can significantly reduce the amount of disk space a game takes up by deleting all files from the Updates folder.

This folder contains temporary files that are downloaded during game updates. The developers themselves confirmed that these files are absolutely unnecessary and can be safely deleted. This is especially true for SSD drives that have a small capacity. For example, this folder took up 13.4 GB for me! For which she was sentenced to destruction without the right of restoration

9. Conclusion

To summarize, I want to say the following. If you want to win, forget about the special effects and set up the game well! After all, defeats do not bring any pleasure, but only irritate and leave a feeling of dissatisfaction!
