Indifference is the worst crime. Do you agree that indifference is the greatest cruelty?

Working with people is rightfully considered the most difficult and harmful, especially if most these people are criminals. Surely the staff of the inquiry department could easily confirm this statement. It's hard to imagine what long years almost continuous communication with drug addicts, alcoholics, notorious scoundrels and psychopaths, you can get used to their way of life and stop being surprised at how this layer of the population does not coexist peacefully with other members of society.

During her 17 years of work as head of the investigation department, police lieutenant colonel Tatyana Konstantinova has seen enough of everything. Having transferred two and a half years ago to the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Nagatinsky Zaton district, she found herself in a new team, but the contingent of citizens she had to deal with on duty was not much different. “The area is not easy, and the employees of the investigation department must be tough nuts,” Tatyana Vladimirovna decided and retained only two people from the previous team, recruiting the rest again. The main requirements for new candidates were: professional skills and desire to work. All other qualities, if the first two are present, come with experience. Willy-nilly, the internal psychologist will wake up as soon as the employee has the opportunity to talk with the suspect or victim. Tatyana Konstantinova says that sometimes you have to listen to your interlocutor for four hours in order to eventually find out one small, but strategic important detail, which will help in the matter. Even when the most degraded person is sitting in front of her in the office, Tatyana Vladimirovna remembers that he is also an individual and with the right approach you can find anyone mutual language, the main thing is not to remain indifferent. Indifference, like robbery or violence, is a crime. Unfortunately, this is precisely the feature that distinguishes many residents of the capital, “with their tacit consent crimes are being committed."

Several years ago, Tatyana Konstantinova had to “make acquaintance” with a dysfunctional family. At first glance, these people are completely ordinary, not alcoholics, not drug addicts, and did not interfere with anyone’s life. Under one roof on the top floor multi-storey building An elderly mother, her 28-year-old son, who worked as a janitor, and his visiting wife huddled together. Later it turned out that the man regularly tortured his wife, beat her and threatened her with violence; the neighbors stubbornly pretended that nothing was happening. But one day, tired of constant scandals, one of the residents nevertheless wrote a statement. The victim confirmed and showed signs of beatings; she also stated that her husband had repeatedly threatened to throw her out of the window. A criminal case was opened. During the investigation, the woman disappeared, confrontation didn't show up. The husband complained to the police that he had been looking for the fugitive for several days. Officers searched the suspect’s apartment, went up to the attic of the high-rise building and there they found the victim, who was tied to the radiator with ropes.

After this incident, the couple divorced, the man received a suspended sentence, and the woman returned to her homeland. The suspended sentence had not yet ended when the janitor acquired a new lady of his heart... Soon, under the windows of a dysfunctional house, the body of a dead woman was found. Based on the nature of the injuries, it was possible to establish that she died from strong blow about the ground. First of all, suspicion fell on the janitor. The neighbors again shrugged and said that they had not noticed anything suspicious. The janitor and his mother were on the defensive, unwilling to listen to anyone, much less let anyone into the apartment. And yet, the very frightened old woman was persuaded to let the employees in. She confirmed that another girl actually lived in the apartment, but claimed that during another scandal she herself fell out of the window. The janitor denied it for a long time and adhered to the same version, but later confessed to his crime. A forensic psychiatric examination did not find any abnormalities, the man was declared sane.

If the neighbors had been more vigilant, the girl might have been saved and protected from the unbalanced gentleman. Tatyana Konstantinova urged citizens not to be indifferent to other people's problems, and then many accidents could be avoided.

Where moderation is a mistake, there indifference is a crime. – G. Lichtenberg

“The worst crime we can commit against people is not to hate them, but to treat them

Bernard Show

“My hut is on the edge, I don’t know anything”; “Our business is the side”; “Even if the grass doesn’t grow”; “Your shirt is closer to your body”... Such sayings have been preserved since the times Kievan Rus, showing that indifference is a very ancient disease.

Russian writer and playwright A.P. Chekhov once said that indifference is paralysis of the soul and premature death. Indeed, there are millions of people walking around the world who seem to be alive, but at the same time, dead. Dead to others.

Because of indifference, people die on the streets, remaining for days lying on the roadsides and on sidewalks. These people may not be alcoholics or drug addicts, but simply those who feel bad. The incident that happened with actress Natalya Negoda shook up society. This is what the actress writes: “I fainted at the pharmacy. I woke up to someone shaking my shoulder: “Woman, get up! We are closing." Throughout the entire day, no one tried to help Natalia, who was lying on the floor of the pharmacy, not even the pharmacist himself.

It's scary because no one cares. Young people don’t care because they were raised that way, adults don’t care because they’ve had enough grief and become apathetic. For many, it’s all the same.

The basis of indifference is, first of all, selfishness. But the cause of indifference can also be love of money, pride, careerism, excessive love of pleasure, self-interest, and lack of love.

Indifference is worse than hatred

Bernard Shaw also wrote that the worst crime we can commit against people is not to hate them, but to treat them with indifference. If a person experiences hatred, then the one he hates exists for him, that is, all is not lost. You can also sort things out, try to understand how and what to fix, how to influence the situation.

Indifference to God

You can be indifferent not only to people, but also to God. To be indifferent means to treat God as if He does not exist.

Such people are called fools in the Bible: “The fool said in his heart: “There is no God” (Ps. 13:1). However, God will never become indifferent to His creation. He will knock on his heart over and over again, giving many chances for a person to think about the Creator and his salvation.

After all, carelessness about one’s spiritual state can lead to sad consequences. If a person does not enlighten his mind with the word of God, does not work on his spiritual growth, he sinks deeper and deeper into the abyss of sins, without even realizing it. And that is why the Bible says: “He who keeps the commandment keeps his life, but he who does not care about his ways will perish” (Proverbs 19:16).

Work on yourself

In order to eradicate indifference in yourself, you need to know and implement Golden Rule Bible: “As you would have people do to you, do so to them.” Would you like to remain unnoticed on the street when you suddenly feel ill? Or being abandoned by friends Hard time? You should think more often about the fact that you yourself may find yourself in the place of another. If we want to see caring people around us, then we ourselves must love through action. If you are not yet able to love in deeds, then you need to love people at least in words: say to each other good words. A person should have a rule in communication, expressed in the following words: “I am happy to please.” After all, with whatever feeling you take part in the affairs of other people, you generate the same feeling in return. Do what you need and are supposed to do, and a little more.

There are no situations in life in which you cannot help a person in any way. Indifference is only an excuse for slackers. If a person has empathy, then God will give him advice on how to help another.

The indifferent will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven

God's love gave the best that was in heaven for the worst that was on earth. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of people, and people stood around indifferent people and simply looked at His torment. And now many are reacting to His sacrifice in the same way. This is why people who are indifferent to God will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

An indifferent person will not receive salvation because he is indifferent to his spiritual state and to the Good News of salvation. He also cannot serve people, sacrifice his pleasures, love, believe, have compassion. That is, with his indifference he violates God’s commandments.

And, on the contrary, people who are not indifferent to God themselves grow spiritually and spread the Kingdom of God. It lives and moves with the love of a person who is constantly ready to sacrifice his own comfort, happiness, opportunities, if only others would feel good.

To follow the biblical commandment: “Let each one not take care of himself only” (Phil. 2:4), we need to think about how many times we ask others questions: “How can I help?”; “What do you need?” Are we following the example of Jesus Christ, who helped those in need in word and deed?

If a person realizes what should be done correctly and does not do so, then he sins. The Bible emphasizes: “If anyone knows to do good and does not do it, it is sin to him” (James 4:17).

Let all who honor God, be like the Lord in everything, be caring people who use every opportunity to serve others in word and deed.

Do not be indifferent, for indifference is deadly to the human soul.

M. Gorky

Moral ugliness is indifference to bad deeds and words.

Theophrastus

Indifference has always been the greatest enemy of morality.

There is indifference extreme cruelty.

Indifference is a terrible disaster of our time. People are increasingly not paying attention to other people's problems. They show no initiative to help. This behavior is becoming the norm. But for a person, indifference on the part of people around him is sometimes worse than any bad deeds on their part. Wilson wrote that indifference is the highest cruelty.

I completely agree with him, because I believe that indifference is worse than hatred and malice. Families are breaking up due to the indifference of spouses. Indifference is worse than cruelty, because no warmth appears in the soul, and it becomes dead.

Confirmation of these words can be found in many famous literary works. As an example, I will give Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol’s story “The Overcoat”. The writer talks about the titular adviser Bashmachkin, who is engaged in rewriting papers. To buy an overcoat, Akaki Akakievich saves on everything. But after the purchase, his overcoat is stolen. He turned to whomever he asked for help, but no one helped him find his overcoat. Bashmachkin catches a cold, and still no one helps him. He subsequently dies. Thus, the indifference of the people around him brought the man to death. After all, if they had helped him find his overcoat, he would not have gotten sick, and therefore would not have died.

You can also bring literary work Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky “Crime and Punishment.” This novel contrasts gloomy and gray St. Petersburg with its indifferent society and Sonya and Raskolnikov. During his first visit to the Marmeladovs, Raskolnikov cannot remain indifferent to how they live, so he leaves them money. Dunya is going to marry Luzhin for convenience in order to help her brother pay for his studies. But Raskolnikov saves her from such a life. Luzhin is absolutely indifferent to everyone and thinks only about money and his career. Amalia Ivanovna does not feel sorry for the Marmeladovs at all, and after the death of Semyon Marmeladov, she kicks Katerina Ivanovna and the children out of the apartment. Sonya, having learned that Raskolnikov killed the old woman, tries to morally support him and goes with him to hard labor. Sonya and Raskolnikov, despite the indifferent society surrounding them, did not become as indifferent. If people had been more sympathetic, many of the tragedies shown in the novel could have been avoided.

Thus, I confirmed Wilson's words that indifference is the highest cruelty. Indifference on the part of other people can lead to death. Evil is obvious, and people are trying to fight it. Indifference is more secretive and not punishable, but sometimes the consequences are much more dire. People need to be compassionate so that more good deeds can be done in the world.

Effective preparation for the Unified State Exam (all subjects) -

I'll open it for you terrible secret! There are weapons in the world mass destruction, which hits accurately and accurately. And he kills outright. This is indifference!

This is surprising, but true. Moreover, in on a global scale this also works.

As for a person, nothing humiliates, outrages and destroys him more than the indifference of others.

Why do you think terrible, eccentric, wonderful, strange things are done in the world? Why do people go crazy about ? Why do wars happen, after all? There is only one reason - the initiators and instigators of all this disgrace do not have enough attention to their person.

After all, what is attention? This is a designation of your presence in the world. Even if it is negative attention, anger or indignation. Doesn't matter! You will be noticed. This means you will receive a certain amount of social stroking or spanking. That human energy that will give you the strength to live.

"Most great sin towards one’s neighbor – not hatred, but indifference. This is truly the pinnacle of inhumanity. In the end, my dear, if you look closely at people, you will be surprised how similar hatred is to love.”. Bernard Show.

No wonder they say that from love to hate there is one step. And all because both love and are powerful energies of attention to your personality. That is, what your being requires.

Sometimes the indifference of others can be a stimulus for development. It makes a person go out of his way to prove his worth. Tell me honestly, have you really never done anything to prove that you are smarter, more beautiful, more cunning, kinder? “I’ll prove it to you, you’ll still cry without me, I’ll show you again!” - sometimes spins in my head. Sound familiar?

I dare say that the majority human actions are involved precisely in this motivation: “I want to be noticed!” "Look at me!" “You see how good I am (brave, smart, wise, beautiful, etc.)!”

One of the leading human needs associated with recognition. We long for others to notice us. Appreciated. Accepted into our flock. We fell in love in the end. We want to be loved!

Sometimes, in order to experience this feeling, even if it is deceptive, we are ready to humiliate ourselves and beg. To become dependent and forget about our own needs, devoting ourselves to the one we love. But try to honestly answer the question: “Are you doing this for him or for yourself?” Only honestly. Even in love, we are often focused on our own experiences, our own sacrifices, which must be rewarded. And if we are not rewarded and loved ones show indifference or inattention to us, we suffer.

Oh, this is truly a terrible weapon. And in every sense. One could even say that this is a terrible devilish weapon, with the help of which people are capable of destroying life itself (if they are indifferent to the problems of the Earth).

What do we know about indifference?

Firstly, indifference is worse than hatred. This is the most brutal weapon you can think of. If you don't know how to defeat your enemies, you can kill them with a simple and in an accessible way. Ignore. Complete and final. One that automatically transforms a living warm person into an empty space. Not even into a corpse, but simply into nothing. Remember that this is a very cruel and inhumane weapon.

Secondly, contributes to the spread of evil. “Do not be afraid of enemies - in the worst case, they can kill you. Do not be afraid of friends - in the worst case, they can betray you. Fear the indifferent - they do not kill or betray, but only with their tacit consent does betrayal and murder exist on earth.”(American poet Richard Eberhart).

Third, indifference is a killer. It destroys desires and dreams. The indifferent turns into a living corpse, which nothing holds on this planet. As a rule, such people die.

Indifference to a person on the part of others can lead to his illness and death. Especially if he fails to gain attention, even negative attention. And not knowing how to achieve positive attention and love, each outcast will strive with all his might to achieve at least some effect, even if it has the opposite effect. Because this is also a result that proves to him that he exists!

Fourth, indifference as a way to escape from the frailty of existence has nothing in common with indifference-emptiness, about which we're talking about In this article. The so-called enlightenment, liberation from thoughts and passions, the emptiness that Buddhist monks strive for is only a way to be filled with higher meaning. But not indifference.

Don't create emptiness

Does everyone know the rule of communicating vessels? The law of filling voids requires that there be no void. If we create it, we kill ourselves. "There are two ways to kill yourself - suicide and indifference". (Jonathan Coe).

Therefore, use this terrible weapon very carefully. Yes, of course, for some time you can ignore all your virtual or real offenders. But time will pass, and the empty space may be filled with new trolls. Therefore, indifference is only a temporary, tactical move. Signaling to someone who is behaving badly that they are in the wrong.

Many people are kept in good shape by just the attentive gaze of a complete stranger. Think about it. And look around with this attentive and kind look.

Our main strategy should remain And by definition, indifference is not characteristic of it.
