Any live performance gets bigger the more people come to it. Once at a truly massive and grandiose event, it is impossible to forget it, it gives a unique and indescribable feeling. This article lists some of the most memorable speeches that will be remembered for a long time, and even those who did not manage to contemplate these events in person.

Rolling Stones, Rio de Janeiro

In the mid-2000s, the British Rolling Stones toured the world on tour " A bigger bang tour". By the way, he brought the musicians more than half a billion dollars in total. And the performance in Rio de Janeiro was free for his visitors, sponsored by the city hall. On the 22-meter stage on the Copacabana beach, the group performed 20 of their hits. more than one and a half million viewers came.

"Monsters of Rock", Moscow

The first Monsters of Rock festival was held in England in 1980. Since then, many teams have gathered under the name of the event, and they have performed on all world continents. The concert of "Monsters of Rock" in 1991 stands out: in the open spaces of Tushino, soon after the August putsch, the music of such groups sounded as AC / DC, Metallica, Pantera and others. Many of those present, most likely, did not even dream of seeing their favorite musicians someday. According to some reports, the concert was attended by from 600 thousand to a million, according to others under 2 million people. You can watch this event thanks to Wayne Ishem's film "Monsters of Rock in Moscow".

Queen, Sydney

Queen, of course, is one of the most iconic bands in the history of world music. The scale of love from fans around the world was confirmed on April 26th, 1985 in the Australian capital, where the British band came as part of " The works tour"More than two million people came to see their favorite performers.

Jean-Michel Jarre, Moscow

Moscow again appears, which for a long time starved for foreign stars of world magnitude during the Soviet era. And the French composer and multi-instrumentalist Jean-Michel Jarre got into the Guinness Book of Records for his concerts (which were noted as the most massive) as many as four times. According to unofficial statistics, his concert in 1997 on Sparrow Hills was attended by three and a half million people.

Rod Stewart, Rio de Janeiro

About 10 years before the Rolling Stones' performance here, the Brazilian beach set a record for the biggest concert in history. The show was organized by MTV and was timed to coincide with the New Year. On December 31, 1994, legendary rock musician Rod Stewart performed at Copacabana, and about 4 million people gathered to listen to his immortal hits. It is worth noting that with such a number of people, it is quite difficult to keep accurate records, but according to approximate data, there were from 3.5 to 4.2 million, which is noted in the Guinness Book of Records.

Every year, a huge number of the most diverse concerts of rock, pop, rap artists take place in the world. Some gather small clubs, others - thousands of stadiums. Who put together the biggest concert in the world and what are the biggest concerts in the history of music?

The Beatles, 1965

Now it is difficult to imagine how large-scale the Beatles were in the middle of the last century. Young boys from Liverpool were at the height of their fame, and it is they who hold the world's first record for attendance at a concert.

In August 1965, they performed at one of the New York stadiums. 55,000 people came to see and listen to their idols that day. Thus, the performance of the "Beatles" (which lasted, by the way, only half an hour - then it was considered normal) became the first of the largest concerts in the world. The stadium itself, by the way, where the performance was held, could only accommodate 50,000 people, but more than five thousand more came! Then it was an incredibly huge number of people. For the sake of safety, the artists were even taken to the site in armored trucks so that they would not suffer in this crowd of people.

Led Zeppelin, 1973 and 1977

Eight years after the Beatles' legendary performance, other Britons were able to break their record. The Led Zeppelin band performed in front of more than 56,000 people at a concert in Florida. And if the Beatles are more positioned as pop singers, then Led Zeppelin is a rock band. Moreover, they were the founders of hard rock. So their concert became not only large-scale in itself, but also the first major concert in the history of music of this kind.

Four years later, "Led Zeppelin" repeated their success: in Michigan they came to listen to a little over 76,000 people. Then they also performed at the stadium, and it is very interesting that only the Pope was able to collect more spectators in the same stadium a decade later.

Jean-Michel Jarre (1979, 1986, 1988, 1997)

Pop and rock artists are not the only ones to be sold out. The man who became the discoverer of electronic music, Jean Jarre, also succeeded with no less success. And more than once! He first spoke to a huge audience in 1979, it happened in Paris. Then 1,000,000 people came to his concert, and Jarre even got into the Guinness Book of Records. He repeated his own success seven years later in exactly the same place, and this time the number of viewers slightly exceeded 1,000,000.

Both of these concerts, however, were free. But even for money, a sufficient number of people came to watch and listen to Jarre: for example, more than 180,000 Britons in 1988 in London. And almost ten years later, Jean Jarre visited the Russian capital in honor of its 850th anniversary. Then his performance was organized on Sparrow Hills with free admission for everyone. And there were quite a few of them - according to unofficial estimates, about 3,500,000 people.

Queen (1981, 1985, 1992)

Probably there is no such person who has not heard about the Queen group and its frontman, the legendary Freddie Mercury. Thousands of fans around the world have dreamed of coming to their performance, and some were lucky. In 1981 in Brazil. In Sao Paulo, 131,000 people were lucky to see and hear them alive. In addition, it was these Britons who became the first rock group to come with concerts to the countries of South America.

Their popularity grew exponentially, and already in 1985, speaking in Sydney, they gathered 2,000,000 people at their performance! Thus, that show went on to be the largest rock concert in the world. Much less ambitious, but also worth mentioning, was the Queen concert, held six months after Freddie's death - in memory of him and for the sake of opening a fund to fight AIDS (it was from this terrible disease that Mercury died). 72,000 people - such is the attendance of this performance.

Paul McCartney, 1990

The era of the "Beatles" ended in the seventies of the last century, but Paul McCartney never left the stage. He began performing with his wife Linda, traveled not only in Britain, but also in other countries. And one of the performances became a record for him: in 1990, in Brazil, 184,000 people were able to see with their own eyes and hear with their ears a legendary man.

"A-Ha", 1991

Exactly one year after Sir Paul McCartney's performance, the same Brazilian stadium hosted the Norwegian rock group A-Ha. By an incredible coincidence, it was there that the artists set their personal record for the attendance of their concerts - 194,000 people, ten more than Paul McCartney.

Rod Stewart, 1994

The largest concert in the world in terms of number, the record of which has not been broken by anyone to this day, is unanimously considered the performance of soul artist Rod Stewart, which took place on the last day of 1994 in Rio de Janeiro.

There is no exact data on the number of people who came to listen to the musician, but, according to various sources, it ranges from 3,500,000 to 4,000,000.

Michael Jackson, 1996

The name of the king of the pop scene, Michael Jackson, is known to everyone. They still love him, and even during his lifetime, his popularity was enormous.

In the mid-nineties, he went on a tour of five continents, during which he visited thirty-five different countries. At the same time, one of the largest concerts in the world with his participation (in Prague) took place - 125,000 people could see and hear him.

Garth Brooks, 1997

Garth Brooks' free concert in New York in 1997 is also one of the largest in history. It was held in Central Park in the open air and attracted almost 1,000,000 people (more precisely, 980,000).

"U2", 1997

Great Britain is rich in talent, and those who collect stadiums. And the Irish “U2” were no exception. In the same 1997, they toured other countries. We also stopped in Italy, and it was there, in the small town of Reggio Emilia, that their most ambitious performance took place. Of the 167,000 inhabitants, 150,000 came to listen to the Irish rock band.

Rolling Stones, 2003 and 2006

The Rolling Stones needs no special introduction. Until now, this group has thousands of fans around the world. They staged record performances twice, and both times at the beginning of the new millennium.

In 2003, almost 500,000 people came to Toronto to listen to them, and the concert was paid! And three years later, more than 1,000,000 spectators gathered in Rio de Janeiro to see and hear the legends of the world stage perform live. However, the entrance to this show, held on the beach, was free, but nevertheless, this performance belongs to the largest concerts in the world.

Tokyo Hotel, 2010

Ten years ago, the German alternative group "Tokyo Hotel", which included very young boys, broke popularity records and was at the very top of the ratings. A huge number of people came to their concerts. So in 2010 in Paris, exactly 500,000 spectators were able to see their idols with their own eyes.

The biggest rap concerts in the world

Pop, rock, alternative - not only these directions are able to gather the halls. Don't forget about hip-hop culture. In 2014, the concert of the legend of world rap Eminem took place in London, at a stadium with a capacity of 90,000 people, and became the first large-scale concert for this genre.

And in Russia, the first rapper to gather a large audience was Vasily Vakulenko, better known as Basta. Two years ago, he gathered a full house in the Moscow Olympic complex - 35,000 fans came to listen to him. This year, two more artists of this direction managed to "take" the stadium "Olympic": Oksimiron (22,000 people) and Timati (28,000 spectators).

Festivals

Various large-scale festivals with free admission are also among the largest concerts in the world. Of course, it is problematic to establish the exact number of viewers, but at least an approximate one is possible. For example, in 1970, 600,000 people did not come to Afton Down, and 620,000 people attended a similar pop event in New York three years later.

And in September 1991 more than 1,500,000 people, according to the most conservative estimates, gathered in Moscow for the Monsters of Rock festival, which was attended by such world stars as Metallica, AC / DC and many others.

New artists in a variety of genres appear on the world stage every now and then. The popularity of many of them is very high, which means that there is a fairly high probability that one of the new stars will be able to repeat the record of the performers mentioned above. Wait and see!
