Who will perform at Eurovision. Who represented Russia at Eurovision. Who went to Eurovision from Russia - later years

TASS-DOSSIER / Pavel Duryagin /. Russia first took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, after joining the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The first Russian representative was the singer Judith (real name - Maria Katz). At a competition in Dublin (Ireland), the Russian woman sang the song "Eternal Wanderer" and took 9th place.

Russia was in the top three seven times

Since 1994, Russian musicians have performed at Eurovision 18 times and have missed only three contests. In 1996, the song by Andrei Kosinsky did not pass the preliminary absentee selection. In 1998, the Russians did not make it to the competition due to their low rating (the average score for the performances of the previous five years was taken into account). In 1999, participants from Russia were not admitted due to the fact that the 1998 competition was not broadcast live in the country, despite the fact that this is a mandatory condition of the EMU.

Seven times, domestic musicians managed to get into the top three according to the voting results. For the first time this success was achieved in 2000 by the singer Alsou with the song Solo (2nd place, English "Solo"). In 2003 the group t.A.T.u. became the third with the composition "Do not believe, do not be afraid". In 2006, the result of Alsou was repeated by the singer Dima Bilan (Never Let You Go, English "I will never let you go"). In 2007, Serebro took third place with the song Song # 1.

On May 24, 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia, Russia won its first and so far only victory at Eurovision. Dima Bilan, who took part in the competition for the second time, took first place with the song Believe. The Russian received the highest score of 12 points from viewers from 7 countries: Armenia, Belarus, Estonia, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine.

In 2012, the second place was taken by the Russian folklore group "Buranovskie Babushki", its participants sang the song Party for Everybody in English and Udmurt. In 2015, at the competition in Vienna (Austria), Polina Gagarina with the song A Million Voices also became the second.

Also, in different years, Philip Kirkorov, Alla Pugacheva, Mumiy Troll, Prime Minister, Yulia Savicheva, Natalia Podolskaya, Anastasia Prikhodko, Peter Nalich Musical Group, Alexei Vorobyov, Dina Garipova and sisters Tolmachev.

In 2016, Russia will be represented at the competition by Sergey Lazarev with the composition "You are the only one".

Eurovision in Moscow

In 2009, after the victory of Dima Bilan, Russia became the venue for the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time (according to the rules, the winner country of the previous year will host the competition). The final took place on May 16 in Moscow at the Olimpiyskiy sports complex. The hosts of the final were Ivan Urgant and Alsou. The victory was won by the Norwegian violinist of Belarusian origin Alexander Rybak with the song Fairytale.

Selection of participants

The national selection of participants for Eurovision is held alternately by Channel One (in odd years) and VGTRK (in even years) - Russian TV companies that are members of the European Broadcasting Union and broadcast the competition in Russia. As a rule, the representative from Russia is selected at a closed meeting of the expert commission. Open qualifying competitions were held on the air of RTR TV channels ("Russia 1") in 1994, 1996, 2008, 2010 and 2012, as well as on the air of Channel One in 2005 and 2009.

Musical competition "Eurovision"- one of the most popular in our country. According to statistics, every second Russian every year watches with interest the struggle of the contestants, rooting, of course, first of all for their own. PEOPLETALK invites you to remember all the Russian performers who had the honor to represent the country at the competition.

Masha Katz, 1994

In 1994, Russia was represented at the competition by the singer Masha Katz(42). Her performance was the debut of our country at Eurovision. Masha Katz better known by her pseudonym Judith, performed with an English-language song "Eternal Wanderer"... The competition was then held in Dublin (Ireland)... The bright and charismatic Maria managed to take only the ninth line, which is not so bad for the first time.

In 2004 at "Eurovision" the winner of the youth show went "Star Factory - 2" Yulia Savicheva(28). Because of the intense excitement with which Savicheva I could not cope in the first minutes of the performance, the beginning turned out to be weak. but Julia managed to overcome emotions and take 11th place with a song Believe me.

Natalia Podolskaya, 2005

Follow Savicheva to conquer Europe another one went "Manufacturer"Natalia Podolskaya(33). Song Nobody Hurt No One and 15th place.

In 2006 at "Eurovision" from Of Russia set off Dima Bilan(33). Desperate struggle Dima still yielded first place to a costumed rock band Lordi from Finland. Song Never let you go brought Dima and Of Russia second place.

Silver, 2007

Group Maxim Fadeeva "Silver" went to the competition in 2007 for first place, but the sexy trio took only third. The girls sang a song Song # 1.

Dima Bilan, 2008

2008 was a triumphant comeback Dima Bilan(33) on "Eurovision" after an offensive defeat in 2006. Determined to Win Dima called for help from the Olympic champion Evgenia Plushenko (32) and famous violinistEdwin Marton (41) ... All three performed a song Believe. Dima was irresistible and Russia finally won the long-awaited victory for the first time.

Anastasia Prikhodko, 2009

Next year Russia represented by the ward Konstantin Meladze (52) - graduate "Star factories", singer Anastasia Prikhodko (28) ... Song "Mamo", performed in Ukrainian, instead of the coveted first place, brought us only 11th.

Musical group of Peter Nalich, 2010

In 2010, to participate in the competition was selected "Musical collective of Peter Nalich"... Composition Lost and Forgotten brought again only 11th place.

The singer did not stand aside either Alexey Vorobyov (27) who went to "Eurovision" in 2011. Alexey's participation caused quite a stir due to an incorrect comment Vorobieva about sexual minorities. As a result, the singer performed extremely unsuccessfully, taking 16th place.

Buranovskie grandmothers, 2012

In 2012 from Russia to get the championship on "Eurovision" go "Buranovskie grandmothers"... An unusual folklore group from the village of Buranovo, Malopurginsky district of Udmurtia, was considered the favorite of the competition. Indeed, the charismatic grandmothers charmed the audience by performing the song Party for Everybody... Eventually "Buranovskie grandmothers" took second place.

Diana Garipova, 2013

In 2013 at "Eurovision" the winner of the show went "Voice" Dina Garipova(24). Song What If written by Swedish producers Gabriel Alares and Joakim Bjornberg, brought the country the fifth place.

Maria and Anastasia Tolmachev, 2014

In 2014, the sisters went to the competition Tolmachevs (18) ... Twins Maria and Anastasia performed a song Shine, finishing seventh.

And this year our country is Eurovision presented by a singer with a delightful voice - Polina Gagarina(28). Even before the start of the competition, bookmakers recorded a song A million voices in the favorites, prophesying the singer first place. Whether the predictions will be confirmed, we will find out soon, but for now we suggest listening to Polina.

The second half of May is on the calendar, which means that it is approaching, within the framework of which Russia will be presented in Austrian Vienna with a song "A Million Voices"... Currently, preparations for one of the brightest events in European show business are in full swing in the capital of Austria. While Polina Gagarina is preparing for the main vocal battle of the year, the editors recall the history of Russia at Eurovision - 18 finals.

For the first time, a participant from Russia at Eurovision fought for the first positions in the final in 1994, since that moment Moscow has taken part in the competition almost every year, the list of exceptions includes only two years - 1996 and 1999.

If in 1996 the Russian Federation did not take part, since the participant could not pass the preselection (preliminary selection), then in the second case Russia missed the competition due to the conflict: the participant was not admitted due to the low popularity of the competition in the country, as a result of which the ORT TV channel refused to broadcast.

Russia at Eurovision: the best results

Dima Bilan - 1st place

Russia took the first place at Eurovision only once in its history, this happened in 2008, when it represented the country in Serbia with the song "Believe"... Then the Russian participant scored 272 points in the sum of the assessments of the participating countries, which brought Moscow an unconditional first place. In the top three was the representative of Ukraine with the song "Shady Lady", runner-up, and Greek participant Kalomira, who sang the song "Secret Combination".

Despite such strong competitors, Dima Bilan still won the long-awaited victory, albeit not from the first time - in 2006, Bilan already fought for the podium of the Eurovision winner in Athens with the song “Never Let You Go”, but took second place, giving way to the Finnish rock band Lordi.

Alsou - 2nd place

One of the most successful Russian performances at Eurovision belongs to the singer and her song "Solo"... The final of the competition was held in 2000 in Stockholm, Sweden. Alsou conquered the European audience with a song that brought her 155 points from the participating countries and, accordingly, second place in the competition. The first place this time went to the Olsen Brothers from Denmark, who sang the song "Fly on the Wings of Love".

"Buranovskie grandmothers" - 2nd place

The unconditional opening in European and Russian show business took place in 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan, when Buranovskie Babushki went from Russia to Eurovision. It seemed that then not only the whole of Europe, but the whole world danced to their incendiary composition "Party for Everybody"... Lovely Russian old women conquered Eurovision with their energy and positiveness, despite their advanced age.

The song "Party for Everybody" brought Russia the second place, and the singer Loreen from Sweden became the leader in 2012, her composition "Euphoria" scored an unprecedented 372 points.

"SEREBRO" - 3rd place

In the rating of the best performances of Russians at Eurovision was the group "SEREBRO" with the song "Song No. 1"... The producer's wards, previously unknown to anyone, showed an incredibly driving number in Helsinki in 2007, and the competition song topped all Russian charts for a long time.

Nevertheless, "SEREBRO" did not become gold at Eurovision, but it turned out to be a completely unexpected bronze - the girlish pop group brought an honorable third place to the Motherland, losing in the final to Maria Sherifovich from Serbia (1st place) and Ukrainian Verka Serduchka ( 2nd place).

"T.A.T.u." - 3rd place

Lena Katina from the cult Russian group "t.A.T.u." Group "t.A.T.u." at Eurovision 2003 she performed in Riga, Latvia, performing a song in Russian. Then the song "Do not trust, do not fear, do not ask" ended up third. Group "t.A.T.u." lost to Turkish performer Sertab Erener (1st place) and Belgian performer Urban Trad (2nd place).

Russia at Eurovision: worst results

Alas, Russia did not always find itself in the top three finalists of Eurovision, sometimes Russian participants unexpectedly found themselves in the second ten finalists. One way or another, winning Eurovision every year depends on various factors, c. Sometimes vocal talent and powerful composition are not enough to be among the favorites.

Philip Kirkorov - 17th place

The Russian pop king, alas, did not bring victory to Russia. According to the voting results, the performer was only in 17th place with the song "Lullaby for a volcano", which the singer performed in Russian in Dublin, Irish. Then Russia took part in the competition for only the second year, so Philip Kirkorov can be ranked among the pioneers. It should be noted that thanks to this experience, subsequent representatives of the Russian Federation began to understand what the key to success at Eurovision was.

Alexey Vorobyov - 16th place

Another disastrous result was the performance, who fought for victory in 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Vorobyov took part in the song contest "Get You", which brought the artist only 16th place in the Eurovision final. Then the first place in the competition went to the duet Ell and Nikki from Azerbaijan.

Natalia Podolskaya and Alla Pugacheva - 15th place

The most famous Russian singers and Natalia Podolskaya also went to Eurovision. Both participants received 15th place in the final based on the results of the voting of the countries. Alla Pugacheva represented the Russian Federation at Eurovision-1997 with the song "Diva" in Dublin.

Natalia Podolskaya fought for victory in a vocal competition with a song "Nobody Hurt No One" in Kiev at Eurovision 2005.

"Mumiy Troll" - 12th place

The group "Mumiy Troll" also belongs to the failures of the Russian Federation at Eurovision. This performance dates back to 2001, Russian participants represented the country with the song "Lady Alpine Blue" in Danish Copenhagen. Despite a very bright performance, "Mumiy Troll" took only 12th place, as close as possible to the ten best performers in Europe according to the competition.

"Musical collective of Petr Nalich" - 11th place

In 2010, when Eurovision was held in Oslo, Norway, Russia was represented by the Pyotr Nalich Musical Group promoted on the Internet. Within the framework of the competition, a song was performed Lost and Forgotten, with which Russian musicians were only in 11th place.

Eurovision 2015: Polina Gagarina

Last year, Austria won the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in the face of an outrageous participant - it took Vienna 48 years to repeat the success of 1966.

Polina Gagarina will have to defend the honor of Russia during the difficult relations between Moscow and the European Union. Our performer flew to Austria a few days before the start of the competition in order to prepare her performance together with all the participants in the pre-competition period.

Bookmakers, however, Eurovision is famous for unexpected twists and turns and emotional votes, which means that the participant from Russia has a chance to be among the leaders.

In the last decade, the annual European song contest has been in the center of attention of all residents of our state. In the spring, all the media and ordinary citizens together with them begin a heated discussion of the future vocal competition, in May everyone freezes in anticipation, but after the finals, the whole country is excited by the results for several months. How many of our talented performers throughout history have performed at the Eurovision Song Contest? The list of participants from Russia, all successful and not very successful numbers will be described below.

Historical reference

For the first time, Eurovision was held in Switzerland, and its goal was to unite Western Europe, trying to recover from the war. Despite the fact that the European vocal competition dates back to 1956, the Soviet Union, for obvious political reasons, never sent its representatives there. The competition gained popularity and became one of the most important annual events for Europe. In 1991, the collapse of the Union took place, and Russia, like other former republics, began to establish ties with the West, so the presence of representatives of our country at such an event was only a matter of time. Eurovision participants from Russia appeared at the competition already in 1994.

Start and little statistics

The first attempt at writing was a fairly well-known blues performer who performed under the pseudonym Judith. Maria was chosen for such an honorable mission out of 10 applicants for "Program A". Her song "Eternal Wanderer" took ninth place at the competition in Dublin, Start was not the worst, at least she got into the top ten, which the Eurovision participants from Russia could not achieve until 2000. Although there were more than enough attempts. Since 1994, our country has not participated in the finals only three times, but all three times in the 90s. Eurovision participants from Russia have reached the final 19 times over the years. In 1996, Andrei Kosinsky could not pass the qualifying round for the final, in 1998 he was not allowed due to a low rating, and ORT did not broadcast the competition live, which became the reason for the repeated refusal in 1999. The channel was able to draw conclusions, in 2000 our country triumphantly returned to the singing competition of Europe.

"Eurovision". Russia: participants and venues in the 90s

After a pretty good start, ORT decided that already venerable performers, well-known in their homeland, should represent our state at the European competition. Therefore, in 1995, the future pop king of the national stage, Philip Kirkorov, returned to Dublin. According to the artist, he had only 10 days to prepare, after he was dumbfounded by the news. This is probably what explains the failure of the song "Lullaby for a Volcano", which took 17th place. Or maybe the reason was the fact, revealed a little later, that the composition was not original, like most in Kirkorov's repertoire. But, one way or another, after his failure, Philip has repeatedly helped many Russian and not only young performers at Eurovision. And the prima donna of the national stage with the song of the same name Alla Pugacheva in 1997 was able to take only 15th place, and again in Dublin. Europe could not understand and accept the manner and style of Alla Borisovna, so her performance can be safely considered a failure.

Shock five-year plan

After a short two-year break, our country triumphantly returned to Eurovision. The list of participants from Russia in the early years of the new millennium was very diverse. In 2000, a young Tatar woman went to Stockholm who conquered Europe with her song "Solo" and thus earned the first silver for Russia. The well-deserved second place in the competition became a real sensation, and Alsou became a national heroine. Intoxicated with success, in 2001 the ORT producers sent a rather extraordinary rock group Mumiy Troll to Copenhagen. Not everyone in their homeland could understand him, and even more so the Europeans could not, so the group is only in 12th place. The whole country sang the song of the boy band "The Prime Minister" called "The Girl from the North", and its English-language counterpart did not find a response among the Europeans in 2002 in Tallinn. Probably, the reason for the 10th place was also the excessive excitement of the performers. The most controversial among those who were sent to Eurovision by Russia, the participants of all seasons, is the notorious girl group Tatu. Incredibly, in 2003 in Riga it was they who took the 3rd place with the song "Don't believe, don't be afraid, don't ask", thus bringing the first bronze to their country. For the next two years, the Eurovision participants from Russia were graduates of the Star Factory. Yulia Savicheva performed very well in Istanbul, Turkey in 2004. But complex choreographic steps prevented the artist from concentrating entirely on vocals, and the result was 12th place. Natasha Podolskaya's performance in Kiev in 2005 was the biggest failure since the time of Pugacheva, because the "factory owner" also took 15th place.

Bright streak and real victory

Be that as it may, domestic artists continued to perform at Eurovision. Participants from Russia over the past 10 years have been very different. From hyped stars to unknown bands. And their age ranged from young stars of the children's song contest to representatives of the oldest generation. In 2006, the conqueror of young hearts, Dima Bilan, went to Athens for a vocal competition. His number was interesting, and the song should have won for sure, if not for the shocking Finnish rock group Lordi, who overtook Dima. Fed up with standardly good numbers, Europe thirsted for spectacles, so Bilan was in second place. Nevertheless, it was one more silver in our country's treasury. What turned out to be symbolic was the little-known female pop group Serebro with Song No. 1, which set off to conquer European audiences in Helsinki in 2007, but received, however, bronze, although the third place turned out to be a very unexpected but pleasant result. But 2008 became a real sensation for Russia, because he promised to return to Eurovision and win, but he kept his word. A delightful performance accompanied by violinist Edwin Marton and figure skating star Evgeni Plushenko, as well as the vocalist's stunning voice and touching song did their job - they conquered Europe, and Russia took first place.

Fall from the top of the pedestal

The Eurovision participants from Russia for all the years have been representatives of the Federation itself, so for many it still remains a mystery how in 2009 a native of Ukraine passed the qualifying round and represented our country at a competition in Moscow. The song "Mamo" in Ukrainian and Russian took only 11th place, which was a crushing defeat after the previous victory. The next Eurovision participants from Russia, the new and unknown to a wide audience “The Musical Group of Petr Nalich”, in 2010 in Norway again took 11th place, probably because the song was frankly boring and clearly not in the format of a European competition. Such a deafening failure as Alexei Vorobyov had in 2011 in Germany, Russian representatives have not had since the 90s. The artist took 16th place, and even several high-profile scandals were associated with his name.

Unexpected decisions

After three failures in a row, the producers had to come up with something obviously new and unusual, and they decided to make the most unexpected move that Russia had just made at the Eurovision Song Contest. Participants of all seasons were more or less young artists, which can not be said about the "Buranovskie grandmothers" that hit Europe in 2012. The perky team of Russian old women took second place, which no one could have guessed for sure. And in 2013, Russia sent a young and talented winner of the "Voice" project to the competition, which took 5th place and entered the top ten, which was also a pretty good result.

Bias

All the participants of the Eurovision Song Contest in Russia over the past 10 years have not experienced such pressure as the domestic representatives of 2014 and 2015 due to the aggravation of the situation in the world and the general political situation. Despite the fact that music is out of politics, Europe has been more hostile to our country in the past two years. Perhaps this factor influenced the fact that the Tolmachev sisters last year took only 9th place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark, although their song and number in general were quite strong. But Polina Gagarina this year managed to get silver and come out on top, which the whole country was very proud of, because now they are especially worried about their representatives in Russia.
