Brief biography of the singer

Nargiz was born in Tashkent in 1970 and initially bore her father’s surname, Pulat Mordukhaev. The girl's mother, pop singer Luiza Zakirova, comes from a family famous in Uzbekistan musical family. In particular, her father (grandfather Nargiz) - People's Artist of the UzSSR Karim Zakirov was a famous opera singer, his wife (grandmother Nargiz) was a performer folk songs, their son Batyr (uncle Nargiz) is one of the founders pop art in the republic and the leader of the ensemble, in which P. Mordukhaev performed as a drummer. Another uncle - Farukh - artistic director, perhaps the most famous Uzbek variety group- “Yalla”, which became popular thanks to its, as they would say today, hit - the song “Uchkuduk”, which was sung in all corners of the USSR. And this is not the whole list talented members Zakirov dynasty, who contributed to the development of the culture of Uzbekistan!

It is not surprising that little Nargiz, who grew up in such a musical environment, already at the age of 4 she made her debut on big stage with Sofia Rotaru’s song “I, You, He, She,” which was very popular in those years in the USSR. By the age of 15, the girl had already recorded several songs for the film “The Bride from Vuadil”, with one of which (“Remember Me”) to the music of Farukh Zakirov and the words of Ilya Reznik - Nargiz performed at the festival “Jurmala - 86” and, being one of the most young participants, won the Audience Award. Returning to her homeland, after such a successful performance, the girl entered the Tashkent Circus School in the variety department. At the age of 18, Nargiz got married (though unsuccessfully) and gave birth to a daughter, Sabina, but this did not interfere with her stage activities.

The collapse of the USSR and the so-called dashing 90s made their own adjustments to the seemingly predetermined path of a young talented performer to the heights of musical Olympus, and in 1995 Nargiz, being pregnant with her second child (from her second husband), went to the USA with her daughter and parents and settled in New York. The first few years away from her homeland were difficult for her. with great difficulty and, like many emigrants, the woman was forced to master several specialties. So, Nargiz had to work in a store, a video salon, a pizzeria and a tattoo parlor. Apparently the latter was the reason that over time Nargiz changed her image, and today her body is decorated with many tattoos.

The desire to sing never left the singer, and Zakirova began performing in New York restaurants. In parallel with this, she experimented in the field of ethno-music and recorded the album “Golden Cage”, which had some success in the USA.

2013 became especially significant for Nargiz, as she took part in the American version of the famous television project “X-Factor”, and, having gone through three preliminary stages, received the right to participate in the final audition. However, at the same time, the preliminary stages of the “Voice” show began and Zakirova decided to fulfill her old dream and perform in front of Russian viewers.

Participation in the “Voice” project

From her first performance in the “Voice” project, Nargiz Zakirova attracted the attention of Russian viewers and judges, becoming one of the few participants whom Bilan, Pelageya, Agutin and Alexander Gradsky wanted to see on their team. Nargiz chose Agutin as her mentor, and they collaboration gave excellent results, witnessed by millions of television viewers in Russia and neighboring countries. Her family members are especially rooting for the singer, supporting Nargiz in all her endeavors.

About family

Today Nargiz has three children, 24, 18 and 13 years old. Last child was born in a marriage with her current husband, singer Phillip Balzano, with whom Nargiz, as she herself says, fell in love from the first sounds of her voice, having heard a song performed by him in one of the New York restaurants. The singer regrets that her husband cannot attend her performances, since their daughter Leila is a schoolgirl and Phil had to stay in the USA so as not to distract the child from studying. However, Nargiz’s entire family follows her performances on television and online.

Future plans

As for the singer’s plans for the future, she believes that she has already realized her main dream, getting on the project and performing for the Russian audience. And now all her efforts will be aimed at establishing herself as a singer in Russia. Much, of course, will depend on her future fate in “The Voice”.

Her name means “walking through fire” in Arabic. The appearance of Nargiz Zakirova on Russian television excited thousands of viewers. With her unusual manner of performance and unique appearance, she “blew up” the Russian public and immediately won the love of many fans. We managed to talk with Nargiz a few weeks before her concert in Kirov. In an interview with Istochnik, the finalist of the television project The Voice spoke about her family, and also admitted why it was not easy for her to reveal her talent in Russia.

Nargiz, in April you will perform in Kirov. What repertoire will you please the Kirov residents with?
The program will include my original works and, of course, compositions by Led Zeppelin and Metallica. Also, fans will definitely hear the songs that I performed in the “Voice” project.

Will you be coming to Kirov for the first time?
First. I have never been to Kirov. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything at all about your city. But acquaintance is ahead.

You for a long time lived in America. Is the Russian public different from the American public?
Not the word how different! Although it is made of the same material. In America everything is much easier and simpler. And Russians are more conservative. When I first arrived in Russia, I saw angry people. But then they started to welcome me here with open arms and treat me with the greatest soul.

Have you moved to Russia now?
Yes, you can say that I live here. I have a lot of work in Russia. And you only manage to get to America to see your relatives.

How often do you see your family?
Very rarely. I was recently in America, where I spent ten days with my family.

Nargiz, how do you maintain communication with your children?
We communicate with them every day. Of course, they are bored, but what can you do? Now is my time. We agreed that the children would visit me in Russia.

Is it hard to be a mother of three children?
It's not hard anymore! It was hard when they were very little. And now they are quite independent, so I am not worried about them at all. I know one thing, that they stand very firmly on my feet. I fulfilled my mission as a mother, having given birth and raised three children. Now I can safely leave them alone and not worry about it. My children are very independent and wise.

What are your children doing?
My eldest daughter Sabina studies philosophy. Son Auel is an actor and plays in the theater. He entered the directing department. He has talent. And the youngest Leila is 14 years old. She is studying at school. Leila has not yet decided what she wants to do. But believe me, she has a lot of talents.

Nargiz, I know that you were born in Tashkent. Why did you move to the States?
For a long time I had the feeling that I was born in America. You know, as they say, born at the wrong time and in the wrong place. It is in America that I feel like a complete self-made man. In America it is easier to reveal yourself as an individual, it is easier to reveal your own creativity there. The Russian public is not quite accustomed to innovation. She does not accept sharp deviations from the usual and does not like experiments.

Nargiz, speaking about experiments, do you mean your appearance?

What prompted you to experiment with your appearance?
This is what I wanted at some point. I did this consciously. I like it so. These are not just drawings. My appearance is my lifestyle. This is just me.

How many tattoos do you have in total?
I've never counted them. But believe me, quite a lot! (Laughs).

When was the very first one made?
At 25 years old. I left Uzbekistan and came to New York. There I got my first and long-awaited tattoo on my arm. This is a sign that symbolizes love and freedom.

How do your family feel about this?
My family understands me, so they are calm about my appearance. I never thought about whether others would like it or not.

Nargiz, when you moved to America, what were you doing in the states?
I moved to America at the age of 25. I have already been to Uzbekistan famous performer. And in the USA I had to look for a job. She worked in a rental store, in a video store. I also gave birth to my son Auel, because I arrived in New York already pregnant.

I know that your husband is also a musician. How did you meet him?
This is very interesting story. I accidentally ended up in one of the Russian restaurants where he was singing. When I heard Philip sing, I simply fell in love with him at first sight. I fell in love with his voice. Philip fascinated me. Then we got married and Leila was born.

Besides music, what are your hobbies?
Besides music, I sleep (laughs). IN this moment I really miss this. I rehearse a lot, so I don’t get enough sleep. The schedule is busy. And I really like watching movies and reading books. This is where I get my inspiration from.
