Svetlova is a coordination and methodological center for working with youth and youth for the libraries of the city, the publisher of the information collection “Libraries of Moscow for Youth”.

Why did the library boom begin in Moscow and the capital's reading rooms became the most interesting different people? The director of one of the most popular Moscow libraries, the Central City Youth Library named after M.A. Svetlov.

It is difficult to call Moscow libraries now libraries in the old sense of the word. Now many of them have turned into full-fledged multifunctional cultural centers, living in the rhythm of big city. Here you can still take home paper books or sit in the reading room, but there are also other opportunities and activities - from creative meetings With famous people to coworking spaces. About how the Youth Library named after M.A. Svetlova, the site was told by its director Valentina Agafonova.

- What will the reader who wants to go to Svetlovka see now?

Our departments are located in three different buildings. The youth media center on Bolshaya Sadovaya has space for various events and a fund of foreign literature. Here you can take fiction and educational books in foreign languages, popular science and business publications, periodicals. The main subscription is located on Sadovaya-Kudrinskaya, there is most of book fund of adult and youth literature - from art and business books to scientific and educational publications. The children's library is located in Bolshoy Tishinsky Lane, it also has its own collection (classical and modern literature, children's encyclopedias, as well as books on child development, education and psychology), and space for events.

Everyone can meet cult personalities in our library

— What is a youth media center?

- The media center works almost daily in the format of a lecture platform. Meetings are held here as part of affiliate programs and own projects. We hold “Meetings on Bolshaya Sadovaya” with famous people: actor Yuri Kolokolnikov, director Yuri Bykov and many others came to us. The last one was held in our library creative evening Evgenia Evtushenko. This cycle is very popular. In fact, everyone can meet cult personalities for free.

There are educational, or rather, educational formats. The organizers of the Enlightener award hold meetings with writers and special events. Often we simply invite interesting lecturers, different topics, which we choose for one or another target audience: see what is interesting for everyone age group. We also cooperate with universities, philological faculties- we conduct classes, contests of readers. These formats are also very popular.

— How has the work of the library changed after modernization?

— We have installed convenient self-service stations. Now a person does not need, as before, to come, each time to fill out a card for a book with the participation of a librarian. There is an electronic library card: you choose the number of books (not necessarily one) and put them in the station. It reads RFID tags, automatically enters these books into your library card, and that's all - you can independently track when and what you need to turn in, which books you have on hand. This is one of the most convenient options for modern libraries, including ours. Also at the end of last year, new computers were purchased for visitors.

The work schedule has also changed. Previously, libraries were open until 19:00 or 20:00 maximum, and now they are open until 21:00 or 22:00, so that everyone after work, college and on weekends can come to receive services, read, and so on. Our library is a youth library, so now it is open from 10:00 to 21:00 from Tuesday to Saturday and until 20:00 on Sunday. Monday for libraries is a single day off.

— Did you get more visitors after the upgrade?

- Svetlovka has always been popular. Since the 1940s, there has been a youth library where career guidance classes were held - a very popular direction in those days. There were also very strong poetic studios here. There are several contemporary poets who came out of the poetry circle of our library.

We have regular visitors who come to us like in an office, in a coworking space - they spend almost half a day here

We are trying to maintain popularity, including arranging a comfortable environment for work and study: to place tables near stained-glass windows, it is more convenient to place places for readers. We look at how comfortable people are, how they settle down - and yes, we see that people come to us.

When I went to the library last year to decide whether I wanted to become its director, during the day the lights in the reading room could even be dimmed, because there was no one there. And now on weekdays you can always find six or eight visitors there who come to us with different goals, and not just to take books.

- Why are they going?

- Now, in principle, few people go to the library to sit down with a book and read. People come with laptops to work, work out or listen to someone. We have regular visitors who come to us like in an office, in a coworking space - they spend almost half a day here. These are mostly young people, such as teachers who teach online.

There is, of course, a teenage audience - schoolchildren of 15-16 years old who come after lunch. For them, we have a large toy library, which is constantly replenished - we buy board games and they give them to us. Pensioners also come to Svetlovka, middle-aged people often bring their children or parents here, depending on the format of certain events that are held in the library.

That is, it cannot be said that only some certain type readers. And it's nice that during the day young people (I think over 25 years old) sit, work, hold meetings and negotiations. We are dealing with completely different formats of interaction within the walls of the library.

The city's attention is drawn to the library network

- What are you working on now? What projects are the most important?

- First of all, we are trying to develop a popular science direction, which is popular among young people. Of course, a modern library is both events and a workspace - anything. But it's not a library if it doesn't have new good interesting and modern books. And in Lately we rely on popular science literature, on books on self-development. Therefore, we are friends with specialized publishing houses.

We also update the literature. And we try to follow different literary prizes, for trends and bestsellers. Otherwise, it is not clear why come to us. We are proud of the updated fund. Sometimes people ask me: why, if you can buy it? I answer: yes, but books cost from 500 rubles and more. What for? You can come, take, read and return the most popular books you see on social networks and blogs. The same with the children's department: we try to buy all the novelties of the famous children's publishers, and we are talking about books for children of different ages.

For section foreign languages We bought expensive educational literature. Teachers with teenagers, parents of schoolchildren, and students come to us to take everything related to learning English: textbooks to prepare for passing TOEFL (a test of knowledge in English as foreign. — Approx.mos. en), the latest edition of Murphy, and so on. People can come and photocopy something for themselves, because these books are really very expensive. That is, now we are updating the fund educational literature in English. We would like to have at least a small number of good novelties in the most popular European languages, and we have yet to fulfill this plan.

There is active support aimed at ensuring that libraries are not only called in words cultural centers, but also could surprise visitors with new opportunities, service

modern library modern qualified employees are needed. Please tell us who works for you? What should a librarian know and be able to do taking into account modernization?

— There are a lot of young guys in the media center. In addition to the standard duties of helping visitors and consulting, each one is also assigned a function related to different types events. Someone holds meetings of certain formats, negotiates with partners, someone leads social networks or a column, someone makes photo reports or mounts videos. We empower employees to realize own projects— even the most daring ones. For example, a boy works for us, a graduate of the Literary Institute, who is now publishing his book and will present it in our library.

With librarians, we discuss what would be interesting to them and our audience - a list of topics of interest to young people, interesting people constantly updated, and we take this into account. Therefore, modern librarians are very multifunctional specialists. We also have excellent “classic” employees. For example, our head of the Department of Art Literature has been working in Svetlovka for forty years, and we appreciate her very much. She was awarded the diploma of the Mayor of Moscow. We are for very different specialists to work in the library. The main thing is that they love their work, that it is interesting for them. Then it will be interesting for visitors.

To be honest, I am very proud to be the director of the first youth library in Moscow founded in 1941. I see that the city's attention is turned to the library network. There is active support aimed at ensuring that libraries not only in words are called cultural centers, but also can surprise visitors with new opportunities and services. I want the interest not to disappear, and we continued to be supported. Now we are moving very quickly, and in the media space too, which is extremely pleasant and very motivating to work. And to ensure that those who did not even think about it before came to libraries.
