Why Pechorin is not capable of love. Love and women in the life of Pechorin in the novel “Hero of Our Time”: Pechorin’s attitude towards women

The theme of love in the work “Hero of Our Time”
Even after centuries, Lermontov’s work retains its rare charm, because in it we find “a union of magical sounds, feelings and thoughts.” Many of the problems that interested the poet have long since become a thing of the past and have become history. But his poetry is still relevant in our time. Lermontov's romanticism is based on the firm conviction that there is “another life”, that man was created for love, for happiness. Love takes great place in the writer's poetry. Let's consider this topic using the example of the novel “A Hero of Our Time”

The first in the novel appears before us is the Circassian Bela. Succumbing to his whim, Pechorin, with the help of Azamat, stole a young girl from her parents' house. For some time the lovers were happy, but the hero quickly became bored with Bela. He realized for himself that “...the love of a savage better than love noble lady; the ignorance and simple-heartedness of one is just as annoying as the coquetry of the other.” At the end of the story, Bela dies painfully. Maxim Maksimych reasons: “No, she did well to die: well, what would have happened to her if Grigory Alexandrovich had left her? And this would have happened, sooner or later...”

The fate of the other heroine of the novel, Princess Mary, is no less tragic. Pechorin begins to follow her out of boredom. Having become close to the princess, he, without meaning to, becomes imbued with tender feelings for her. This is confirmed by his confession to her that he moral cripple. Pechorin himself doubts whether he is playing or sincerely feeling. But his soul comes to life for a while. It is no coincidence that, having not seen the princess all day, Pechorin is confused, he does not understand what is happening to him: “When I returned home, I noticed that I was missing something. I haven't seen her! She is ill! Have I really fallen in love?.. What nonsense!” But the hero is contradictory nature, and he continues to play with Princess Mary, despite his feelings for her, until he brings her to nervous disease. To make their separation easier, he tells the princess that he was just laughing at her all this time. Another love story in Pechorin’s life ended in pain and disappointment.

Love for Vera was Pechorin's deepest and most lasting affection. Among his wanderings and adventures, he either left her or returned to her again. Pechorin caused the girl a lot of suffering. “Since we have known each other,” Vera said, “you have given me nothing but suffering.” And yet she loved him. Ready to sacrifice both her self-esteem and the opinion of the world to her loved one, Vera becomes a slave of her feelings, a martyr of love. And what about Pechorin? He loves her as much as his crippled soul allows him. But Pechorin’s attempt to catch up and stop his beloved woman speaks most eloquently of all the words about Pechorin’s love. Having driven the horse in this pursuit, the hero falls next to its corpse and begins to sob uncontrollably: “... I thought my chest would burst; all my firmness, all my composure - disappeared like smoke...” But, having come to his senses, Pechorin decides that it was a stupid act, and he passes off his sincere sobs as “frustrated nerves.”

I think that Lermontov in his novel represents several types of love: metropolitan love, “natural” love and sacrificial love. It is important that the fate of women who encountered Pechorin is always tragic. But the hero himself is unhappy in love, he is in an endless mad search that destroys him. In the end, he finds only one thing: an early tragic death...Thanks to Lermontov for wonderful novel"Hero of our time". He made me come to the conclusion that for love you have to sacrifice something. It is not enough to be loved, you have to love yourself. Many people are not ready for this. It's about upbringing and the society in which we live. This is where the great human tragedy lies.

Lesson summary using ICT (10th grade) Lesson topic: “Singer of love, singer of one’s sorrow” (“The theme of love in the works of A. S. Pushkin”)

Twenty-year-old Pushkin first met 19-year-old Anna Kern in the house of the president of the Academy of Arts Olenin. “Is it permissible to be so charming?!” he exclaimed,...

Love... Such a beautiful and sublime feeling, which Pechorin treats so thoughtlessly. He is selfish, and beautiful girls who see their ideal in him suffer from this. Bela and Princess Mary, Vera and Undine are so different, but equally painfully hurt by Pechorin, who himself admits: “And what do I care about human joys and troubles...”.

When Pechorin saw the beautiful Circassian Bela for the first time, he thought that love for her would bring him healing from melancholy and disappointment. Bela was endowed with more than just beauty. It was passionate and a tender girl capable of deep feeling. Proud and bashful Bela is not devoid of consciousness of her dignity. When Pechorin lost interest in her, Bela, in a fit of indignation, says to Maxim Maksimych: “If he doesn’t love me, who’s stopping him from sending me home?.. If this continues like this, then I’ll leave myself: I’m not a slave, I’m a prince’s daughter!” .

The story with Bela showed Pechorin that in female love he sought happiness in vain. “I was wrong again,” says Pechorin, “the love of a savage is little better than the love of a noble lady; the ignorance and simple-heartedness of one is just as annoying as the coquetry of the other.”

Princess Mary, like Bela, is a victim of the restless Pechorin. This proud and reserved aristocrat became deeply interested in the “army ensign” and decided not to take into account the prejudices of her noble relatives. She was the first to admit her feelings to Pechorin. But at the moment of a decisive explanation with Princess Pechorin, he felt unable to give up his freedom to anyone. Marriage would be a “safe haven.” And he himself rejects Mary’s love. Offended in her feelings, the sincere and noble Mary withdraws into herself and suffers.

Love for Vera was Pechorin's deepest and most lasting affection. Among his wanderings and adventures, he abandoned faith, but returned to it again. Pechorin caused her a lot of suffering. “Since we have known each other,” Vera said, “you have given me nothing but suffering.” And yet she loved him. Ready to sacrifice both her self-esteem and the opinion of the world to her loved one, Vera becomes a slave of her feelings, a martyr of love. Parting with her, Pechorin realized that Vera was the only woman who understood him and continued to love him, despite his shortcomings. Pechorin experiences the final separation from Vera as a catastrophe: he gives in to despair and tears. Nowhere is Pechorin's hopeless loneliness and the suffering it generates, which he hid from others under his usual firmness and composure, so clearly revealed.

The relationship with the undine was simply an exotic adventure for Pechorin. She is an undine, a mermaid, a girl from a forgotten fairy tale. This is what attracts Pechorin. Undoubtedly, his interest was influenced by the mysterious situation. For him, this is one of the turns of fate; for her, this is life where everyone fights for their place, for their business.

Thus, Pechorin did not know how to truly love. He could only make those who treated him so devotedly and reverently suffer.

Grigory Pechorin is the main character of M. Yu. Lermontov’s novel “A Hero of Our Time.” To fully reveal the image " extra person“Love lines are introduced into the work. Love is one of the central themes in the novel. Women play in the main character's life special role. In total, during the story, Pechorin had four women: Bela, Princess Mary, Vera, Ondine. Each love line distinguished by its individuality.

Most of Pechorin's lovers are secular women. Among them, the Circassian Bela stands out. This is a resident of the Caucasus, one might say that she is a savage. For Pechorin, she was just a passing hobby. Although from the very beginning he thought that he had finally met the love of his life. The heroine attracted him with her purity and sincerity. When Bela can no longer imagine life without a hero, Pechorin completely loses interest in her. The simplicity that he liked earlier was now simply boring to him. Soon Bela dies at the hands of a Circassian who is in love with her. And Pechorin comes to the conclusion: the love of a savage is no different from the love of a noble lady. He was wrong again.

The second hobby of the main character was Princess Mary. Pechorin makes the proud and proud beauty fall in love with him. The history of their relationship was pure and sincere. The princess confesses to the hero her deep feelings, but Pechorin honestly answers her that he does not love her and has never loved her. He understands that he is not ready to give his freedom to someone. This is a big blow to the heroine's honor. Offended, Mary withdraws into herself.

The third woman was Vera. Only Pechorin could truly love her. This was a long-term attachment between two heroes. Each time they returned to each other again and again. And this brought a lot of suffering to both heroes. Vera is married, but she is ready to sacrifice herself for the sake of her loved one. However, Pechorin does not want to do anything for their love. Therefore, Vera, although she continued to love the hero, decides to break up with him. This decision brought great pain to Pechorin. This is a disaster for him. And the scene of parting itself shows that the egoist Pechorin still knows how to love.

Pechorin's next relationship was meetings with an undine. It was an adventure again for him. He was attracted by the exoticism and unusualness of the girl. The situation in which he found himself required such mysterious relationships from the hero’s soul. After a dangerous date, Pechorin cannot believe that a date with a girl could end in his death. For her, this is life itself, in which she is used to fighting for her cause.

Having analyzed all of Pechorin’s relationships, we can say that the hero knows how to love, but he does not want to do it. He is indifferent to everything in his life, and he admits it. To all the women with whom he had some kind of relationship, he brings only pain and disappointment. With his indifference, he broke a single fate. He is selfish, and beautiful girls suffer from his selfishness. The images of Bela, Princess Mary, Vera and Undine are so different, but the result was the same for everyone. No one managed to establish a strong relationship with Pechorin. He hurt the feelings of each of them painfully.

Option 2

A real “hero” of our time, Grigory Pechorin is a favorite of society ladies, a conqueror of women’s hearts and a seducer. He is spoiled by female attention, does not tolerate women with character and is not going to tie his life by marriage.

He is a young officer with an attractive appearance - this is enough for society ladies to be crazy about him. Pechorin himself is well versed in women, knows how to attract attention and make you quickly fall in love. He skillfully uses this, either out of boredom or out of a desire to be loved. Self-centered personality traits haunt him. That is why it is so difficult for Pechorin to imagine that he should propose his hand and heart to one of his beautiful persons. He needs everyone's adoration. This pleases his pride, prevents him from getting bored and creates the illusion that he is successful. But, alas, happy life it still doesn't shine.

Does Grigory love Pechorin or is he just enjoying attention? Yes, he loves, falls in love, but these feelings are fleeting. He does not allow them to take root, because this will mean the development of deep affection and will require certain efforts and responsibility before making a choice.

Among the young officer's lovers there are not only society ladies. Bela is a resident of the Caucasus, a “wild” girl, not taught manners high society. It seems that Pechorin is crazy about her and decides to kidnap her. But only 4 months of their life together pass, and Gregory is bored again, his soul longs for a glimpse of new passion. His credo is to get passionate and cool down quickly.

The young officer realizes that he is corrupted and spoiled. He is looking for love, but finds only passion. He needs a constant feeling of some kind of movement, an atmosphere of a storm, bursts of emotions. Thoughts about the everyday family life like a quiet haven oppressing his young mind. The hero is not ready for family life, he honestly tells his lovers about this, which completely breaks the girls’ hearts, and he dooms himself to loneliness.

He needs to do some deep introspection to understand why he is so unhappy despite his success among women. His superficial attitude to life and, in particular, to relationships lead to a series of losses and troubles. He thinks only about himself, about his well-being and comfort, but the feelings of his beloved women excite him to a lesser extent, hence all the problems of the egoist.

Women and love Pechorin

Pechorin is an unconventional and unique personality. He may seem capricious, like a lady, and after a while - demonstrate heroism during a battle with the enemy. The inconsistency of his image is expressed both in the appearance of the hero and in his actions. His smile is like that of a child, his face is youthful, but there are traces of wrinkles on it. When he laughs, his eyes are serious. He looks like a melancholic person, disappointed in life. But is this really so? At that time, it was fashionable to put on a kind of “bored” mask. Perhaps this is how he attracted women who fell in love with him selflessly and devotedly. In the work, the hero meets many girls who captivate him passionate nature. It's hard to say whether this is true love or the whim of a bored officer. Absolutely different women, different destinies, different upbringing. This is a smuggler girl (“Taman”), Nastya in “Fatalist,” and a Circassian princess (“Bela”), and two women at once in “Princess Mary.”

Pechorin quickly got carried away and quickly cooled down. The object of his love became amusement. And he made all these women unhappy; for some, relationships with Gregory ended tragically. The Circassian Bela died because of Pechorin’s indifference to her. Having once seen this girl, Grigory, like a capricious child, certainly wanted to have a beautiful “doll”. The Caucasian princess did not reciprocate at first, and he was interested in making her feel passion. Bela was in a Russian fortress, was very homesick and did not respond to Pechorin’s advances. He gave her gifts, spent evenings at her feet. And when Bela’s heart thawed and she fell in love with him, he had already begun to grow cold. Aristocrat Mary of Lithuania became seriously ill. Vera died of consumption, most likely without surviving Pechorin's betrayals and periodic indifference. But it is important to replace that his relationship with Vera was different from relationships with other girls. It can be assumed that he only loved her. The image of Vera is somewhat vague. Lack of self-esteem, slavish worship of the object of love. But at the same time, the sincerity of her feelings raises doubts. Vera loves Pechorin, but twice marries for convenience so that she can cheat on her husbands with Pechorin again and again. What is this? Love? Or maybe she is simply attracted to the mystery of relationships and romanticism?

Pechorin, furiously wants to be the ruler of the soul loving woman, demanding that she sacrifice herself, but he himself is not capable of long-term, sincere love. But at the same time, the hero is a selfish egoist, breaking the hearts of others and experiencing genuine pain. Causing torment to the heroines who fall in love with him, he himself suffers painfully. He was already ready to propose to Princess Mary because he feels compassion for her. When I received it from Vera last letter, but could not catch up with her, he sobs with hopelessness, and at that moment she becomes “more precious to him than anything in the world - more valuable than life, honor, happiness! Pechorin sincerely grieved and was tormented when Bela died in his arms.

In all love stories, not only the courageous character of the hero emerges, but also his inferiority life position. He tries to hide and disguise his fear of the realities of life. Pechorin did not find happiness in love, despite his numerous novels.

Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov was born in Moscow in 1814 from the marriage of a noble noblewoman and a military man from an impoverished family. How many poems, stories, novels, stories are dedicated to Russian women! They write music for her, in her name they perform feats, make discoveries, fight duels, go crazy, they sing about her, the earth rests on her. In Russian literature, women are glorified especially impressively. Writers, portraying their best heroines in their works, thus expressed their life philosophy. And the role of a woman in society is one of the most important. It is customary to say about female images of the 19th century that they are “captivating,” and this is true. After all, a woman is a source of joy, strength and inspiration.
Lermontov wrote: “We both hate and we love by chance, sacrificing nothing to either anger or love, and a kind of secret cold reigns in the soul, when fire boils in the blood.” These words perfectly reveal the character of the main character Pechorin and his attitude towards women. In the novel “A Hero of Our Time” there are three images of women: Bela, Princess Mary and Vera.

Bela is a young Circassian woman, whom the reader learns about from the story of Maxim Maksimych. Pechorin saw her at the wedding and was captivated by her unusual beauty. She seemed to him the embodiment of spontaneity, naturalness, that is, everything that Pechorin had not encountered in the people he knew. society ladies. He was very fascinated by the fight for Bela, but when all the barriers were destroyed, and Bela joyfully accepted her fate, Pechorin realized that he had been deceived... Bela has a strong integral character, in which there is firmness, pride, and constancy, because she was brought up according to the traditions of the Caucasus.
Princess Mary looks completely different. We learn about her from Pechorin’s diary, which describes in detail “ water society» Pyatigorsk, where the hero stayed. Already in the first conversation with Grushnitsky about Mary, Pechorin allows himself an ironic, even mocking tone in relation to the princess. Mary Ligovskaya is very young, pretty, inexperienced, flirtatious. She, of course, does not understand people particularly well, does not see Grushnitsky’s farce, does not understand Pechorin’s play. She wants to live as is customary in their noble circle, with some vanity and splendor.
Mary becomes the subject of rivalry between Grushnitsky and Pechorin. This unworthy game ruins one and amuses another. Pechorin, however, also has his own goal: when he visits the Ligovskys, he has the opportunity to see Vera there. Of course, in such an environment, it was very difficult for Princess Mary to become herself and, perhaps, to show her best qualities.
Why is Pechorin so bored and lonely? Pechorin is an extraordinary person, so he was looking for a special woman, looking for one who could completely capture his soul. But there was no such thing. Pechorin cried when he drove his horse, but did not catch up with Vera. However, this is just Pechorin’s sick past, a temporary impulse of the soul.
Lermontov draws a portrait of a hero from the vices of society. However, it is possible that the relationship between Pechorin and Vera is a reflection of the tragic unrequited love Lermontov to Varenka Bakhmetyeva. Lermontov was loved by many women, but he constantly returned to the image of his beloved. Thanks to female images In the novel, the writer managed to reveal the main character traits of the main character and give the novel originality, freshness, and clarity of perception.
