At the same time, as a kid on stage, I always performed only country music, this is where my roots are, where I started,” Twayne explains. The record company, without hesitation, signed a contract with the unknown singer, and in 1993 she released her first album, not without pretense, entitled “Shania Twain”. Shania's first single, "What Made You Say That", attracted the attention of Sean Penn, he expressed a desire to work with the singer on a video, and that's how the video "Dance With The One That Brought You" came about. The first record brought Shania not only all-American popularity and tangible material dividends, but also happy changes in her personal life. Working on the album brought Shania so close to producer Robert Lange, known for his collaborations with Def Leppard, Foreigner, AC/DC and Bryan Adams, that in December 1993 they decided to legalize their relationship.

At the same time, many not so successful country musicians rushed to blame the Mercury label for unreasonably high costs for the album, which cost as much as five hundred thousand dollars, and the singer for the lyrics being too explicit for a woman.
However, Shania was most hurt by an article that appeared in the newspaper of her native Timmins, where it was reported that the singer allegedly does not actually have a drop of Indian blood in her veins, and she uses the national theme for her own promotion in order to look more exotic in front of the listener. The journalist based his reasoning (erroneous, as it turned out later) on the fact that the singer’s biological father was half Irish, half French-speaking Canadian. At the same time, for some reason he decided to forget about the Indian roots of Twayne’s mother, as well as the fact that the singer donated all the profits from her mega-successful singles “Home Ain’t Where His Heart Is (Anymore)” and “God Bless The Child” to charitable organizations , providing Indian children with free food. As a result, this affected not only Shania herself, but also her fellow countrymen. The singer was invited to Timmins by the city authorities, where, as a sign of respect, she was given a symbolic key to the city. At the same time, the main street and the city were renamed in her honor garden. In the wake of the success of "The Woman In Me", Shania released her third number album, "Come On Over", after which she only had to collect a whole crop of country awards, including the "Artist of the Year" award at the American Country Music Awards.
