How to draw modular paintings. Do-it-yourself modular paintings - an example of self-execution Do-it-yourself paintings from photowall-paper

They gained great popularity as an option for decorating the interior. They can consist of two parts - a diptych, three - a triptych, and more - a polyptych.

Of course, today you can buy them in many stores, but wouldn't it be more pleasant to make a modular picture with your own hands? That is why we have brought to your attention a master class on creating such a decor element. And for this you need:

  1. Fabric with a beautiful pattern (choose the pattern so that it blends harmoniously with the style of the room you will be decorating). The pattern can be the same ornament, or it can be a plot. If you take a plot as a basis, then you will need to take measurements from the canvas so that the divided parts fit together on different parts of the modular picture.
  2. Base 1 - wooden slats and pieces of plywood.
  3. Base 2 - fiberboard or foam (even foam from ceiling tiles will do).
  4. PVA glue.
  5. Scissors, hooks, furniture stapler, centimeter.
  6. Pencil or crayon (for marking on fabric).

It is quite easy to make a modular picture with your own hands, and therefore we will consider this process in stages:

1. Ready base

It can be purchased in the store in the required quantity for your modular painting. They are sold with the fabric already stretched over the base. And then having studied in detail how to draw a modular picture yourself, you can use a ready-made basis. If you want to make a modular picture with your own hands, using the fabric or print you like, then you will have to carefully remove the fabrics from the stretchers.

2. We make the basis ourselves

Or you can make a base for a modular picture with your own hands. The first option is to create subframes using wooden slats. Here you will need to take rails for stretchers of the same length in pairs, saw down the ends and connect them together using glue or a furniture stapler. In each corner, on the seamy side, you can fasten pieces of plywood in the form of triangles, so you will strengthen the frame for your painting. For greater density on the stretcher, as an additional base, you can stretch the fabric, also securing it with a furniture stapler.

The second option - you can take a solid base - a piece of fiberboard or foam, but then do not forget to process the edges. This is the simplest version of the base if you decide to make a modular picture with your own hands, and spend the minimum amount of time on it. Of course, making modular paintings with your own hands in any case will cost a certain amount of effort and time, but this option is especially recommended for female masters, because there is less work with tools.

Spread the blade evenly and taut to avoid wrinkling and wrinkling. The corners will require special attention and accuracy. Secure the long opposite sides first, then the short ones.

4. We decorate the interior!

As a result, you get a great decor item for your room. Now you can fantasize with the placement of pictures relative to each other. DIY modular paintings can also generate income if you reach a certain level of skill.

If you are interested in how to draw a modular picture, then everything is simple. Everyone who has not missed drawing lessons at school will be able to do it themselves. Your end result does not have to be a work of art of the highest quality - you can find pictures of patterns or colors and redraw them, distributing them into modules of your picture.

Do-it-yourself modular painting (step-by-step instructions are described below) is a completely doable task. Even without an art education, you can create a unique product.

Using fabric, wallpaper, improvised tools and materials in your work, and most importantly - the desire - to really acquire an exclusive image. Then cut into separate segments and hang correctly in the chosen place.

With its help, the style of the room is emphasized, depth is given, the necessary visual volume is created.

What it is

Applying the technique of segmentation, artists and designers forced to look at painting in a new way. A modular painting is, until recently, a whole canvas, divided into separate parts (segments).

Each part is stretched over a stretcher, frameless, lightweight, which allows the image to flow smoothly, creating a unified perception as a whole.

Decorative modules are divided into several parts, keeping a single theme. They consist of two, three or more segments of different sizes. They make images in different techniques - they write with oil paints on canvas, embroider on canvas, and print using a modern printer.

It is interesting. Such drawings are rooted in the past. This technique was actively used in homes by the ancient Greeks. Even then, they divided the painting into parts, creating an interesting design in the room.

How to make decorative modules yourself

It is easy to make a unique image with your own hands. To do this, you need to decide on the room for which it is made. Choose the appropriate color scheme. Decorative modules should emphasize the advantages of the room and hide the flaws.

Choose the image you like (landscape, still life, interesting pattern). Determine the size of future canvases, their shape. Further work depends on the chosen material.

Consider an example of using beautiful patterned fabric and photo wallpaper. The latter can be ordered in production. In terms of quality, it is difficult to distinguish them from painting.

Modern technologies allow any image you like and transfer it to the canvas. Craftsmen will make separate fragments according to your size on a single canvas. It remains to cut and attach them to the base.

For work you need:

  • finished image;
  • base (pine blocks, plywood remnants);
  • glue (wallpaper or PVA):
  • scissors;
  • furniture brackets;
  • roulette;
  • hooks;
  • crayon.

We begin to make our own picture.

Master Class

Having got everything we need, we gain patience and start work. For this:

  1. Measure the wall that the painting will be placed on. Choose a place, designate, find out the size of the future canvas.
  2. Divide by the required number of segments. It is easier to do this with a graphical editor.
  3. Determine the size of each element, write it down.
  4. From bars (foam, plywood) make a base for each module. It should be 5 cm smaller than the image.
  5. Attach the base to the selected product from the inside out, mark the contour, taking into account the stock for fastening.
  6. Cut the individual elements one at a time from a single piece with scissors.
  7. Attach them to the stretcher: if it is made of bars, use a stapler, when from plywood or foam, apply additional glue.
  8. Attach light hooks from the inside out.

Note: When connecting wooden blocks for a stretcher, drill a hole with a smaller diameter in the place of the future screw, otherwise the block may split or crack.

Carry out all stages of work slowly, precisely combining the parts. If the glue protrudes beyond the base, the work will have to be done again. Pay particular attention to the processing of corners. Make sure that there are no irregularities. Creases in the fabric will make the modules look untidy.

The nuances of placement

Having decided to place a segmented picture in the house, it is worth considering the type and style of the room. For each there is a specific topic and general focus.

The living room is the most suitable for experimentation. The calm interior can be diluted with bright modules. Monochrome - emphasize the style. Universal landscapes - look a win-win in any style, just choose a color scheme. Abstraction and geometry will set a modern touch. Natural landscapes will bring harmony.

The bedroom is a resting place. Therefore, the plot of the picture should not stand out in a flashy color. Sunset, photos of lovers, sea surface - contribute to relaxation, tranquility. The place for the picture is chosen according to taste: above the bed, in front of it - there is no special meaning. The main thing is that she does not irritate, but gives positive.

The nursery is decorated with motives that correspond to the character of the child. For fidgets, it is better to choose calm colors. For young dreamers, vibrant segments will suit your imagination. Particular attention should be paid to the mount and location. Modules should not interfere with games, movement and hang firmly on the wall.

The kitchen will be decorated with appetizing motives, tea leaves, coffee beans. In a place where life is in full swing, you need to think over the place. Moisture and grease should not get on the modular picture. Otherwise, she will not be able to delight with her appearance for a long time. If the kitchen is small, it is better to refuse such decoration, to transfer the idea to another room.

It's important to know: the finished product covered with artistic varnish lasts longer.

The hallway is a place where people linger a little. When placing your masterpiece in it, make sure that the drawing supports the style of the whole house. Otherwise, the work will look ridiculous.

Designers believe that:

  • do not make the segment size less than 30 cm;
  • choose a place at the beginning, and then see if the drawing fits there;
  • vertical stripes raise the walls up, horizontal stripes expand, diagonal stripes are confusing;
  • the more parts, the more interesting to watch. Not forgetting the minimum size;
  • large modules reduce adjacent items;
  • images that do not stand out from the general concept look harmonious;
  • The color scheme works great when it matches the color of the room or stands out with a bright accent against a muted background;
  • too small motives are lost on a large wall.

When a drawing is in a dark place, you can highlight it. They do it in different ways: they install the backlight on top, on the sides or from the inside using LEDs.

The use of modular paintings is limitless. Considering all the nuances and recommendations, you can create a real masterpiece with your own hands.

See in the following video a master class on making a modular painting with your own hands:

Choosing modular paintings will allow you to create a special style of the interior. A series of several elements merge into one composition - it looks lively and dynamic. By choosing to make modular paintings with your own hands, you can express your individuality. The master class will help you quickly master the basics, and you will become the owner of the original decor element.

What are modular paintings

A modular painting is several canvases that are combined into one composition.

There are many options for the arrangement of elements:

  • symmetrical arrangement in the horizontal plane;
  • horizontal and vertical displacement and asymmetry;
  • mixed vertical-horizontal;

The most popular variations are with symmetrical and asymmetrical offsets - they literally change the space of a room. It's amazing how this design technique can achieve a visual increase in space. This is very important for arranging the interior of a small room.

Depending on how many parts the overall picture consists of, they are distinguished:

  • diptych - 2 canvases;
  • triptych - 3 canvases;
  • polyptych - more than three canvases.

There are no strict rules for decorating an interior with a modular painting. In addition, with the current possibilities of printing, you do not need to be an artist to make such a composition with your own hands. Isn't this a challenge for the real creative nature?

How to do it yourself

The material that can be taken as an image can be selected depending on the availability of finances and wishes.

Options for the canvas with the image:

  • fabric with a bright, crisp print, such as flowers;
  • photo or picture printed on a printer;
  • favorite version of wallpaper with a photo.

The choice of the frame depends on the chosen base. A master class on making such paintings will help you create an interior masterpiece.

Master class made of fabric

Materials:

  • fabric with a plot or ornament, a printed image or wallpaper with a photo design;
  • base: wooden slats 50x20 and plywood, fiberboard or foam;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • pencil, crayon or soap;
  • centimeter;
  • stapler for furniture.

Step 1. Prepare the base

Depending on the budget you are looking for, you can buy a ready-made base with canvas or make one yourself. The first option is suitable for those who are inspired to paint a picture with paints. For the first experience, it is better to make a triptych - three elements, for which we prepare three bases. From strips and pieces of plywood, you can quickly build a base for a modular picture. To do this, we connect the wooden slats into a frame, cutting off the ends at an angle of 45 degrees. They can be stapled or glued together.

For strength at the corners of the frame from the seamy side, we fasten plywood triangles (with 10 cm legs). As a lining, you can stretch a neutral in color fabric over the frame, fixing it with a stapler.

It is much easier to use pieces of fiberboard as a base, you only need to process the base around the edges. If you have chosen the option of wallpaper or a printed image, then you can choose a very simple and light base - foam.

Step 2. We attach the canvas to the base

Before cutting out the segments, plan well and mark the cuts in a “measure seven times and cut once” principle. The size of the fabric should take into account the folds on the back. We fix the fabric on the stretcher with a furniture stapler, fastening the staples from the wrong side of the work. Here it is important to evenly stretch the canvas without forming folds. First we fix the long side, and then the short one.

Printed versions can even be glued to thin foam ceiling tiles with PVA glue.

Many, instead of wallpaper with a photographic image, order the printing of the picture they like in numerous print services. You do not need to be a master for this, however, when printing, you need to think about how to make several separate elements with overlapping patterns. In this way, you will maintain the integrity of the big picture.

Step 3. Place the paintings

At this stage, you need to come up with a place where you will hang your composition, as well as a way to arrange the paintings relative to each other. For fastening, you can choose the usual small-format furniture hinges. If the paintings are fixed on stretchers, then they can be fixed on screws that are screwed into the dowels and protrude slightly from the wall.

The location options are extremely interesting, where one of the canvases is displaced in an interesting way. The element looks unique, which is deliberately shifted in the "flight" as if from the wind.

The master class will give you an understanding of the main points of creating a modular picture. You can safely experiment with the materials of the canvas itself and the base, choosing what you have in stock. For the first tests, even pieces of drywall or polystyrene, on which pictures from a printer or rectangles from wallpaper are glued, will do. When you practice on simple materials, you can make more complex compositions for interior decoration.

- all these items are able to transform the interior, bring with them a warm and friendly atmosphere. Pictures have been decorating the walls of apartments and houses for many centuries.

What are modular paintings?

A new look at the traditional art of steel segmented paintings, where a single canvas is divided into several parts. This approach allows you to create an unusual image that can be perceived differently each time. Modular paintings in the interior are an amazing mixture of age-old traditions and the latest trends. The most valuable are the models painted in oil... However, modular paintings made in the printing house by printing method are also noteworthy.

The undoubted advantage of this decor element is that it is not very difficult to make modular paintings with your own hands. We will describe below how to make a modular painting with your own hands from the available materials. But first you need to decide on the format and type of product.

Types and schemes of modular paintings

The variety of options will amaze even the most sophisticated art lover. Models vary in size and forms, direction and, of course, content. But the main difference is number of parts... In a diptych there are only two segments, in a triptych - three, in a pentaptych - five, and in a polyptych - six or more. You should not chase the number of segments, in any case, they should all be just components of a single pattern.

If you do not know how to hang a modular picture, then refer to the picture. Individual segments should form a single pattern... But do not forget that between elements must be preserved. a gap of 1.5 - 2 centimeters... In order not to be mistaken in how to mount modular paintings, you need to consider each specific model.

How to choose a modular painting?

Each room has its own characteristics, tasks and goals. The correct choice of decorative elements will emphasize all the advantages of the room and minimize the disadvantages.

Living room

The perfect room to experiment and use vibrant and vibrant colors. Designers advise to select the size of the segments in accordance with the area of the room. So, for example, small items can "get lost" on a large empty wall. At the same time, large segments will look ridiculous in a small apartment. Look great modular paintings over the sofa.

Bedroom

The picture for this room should be chosen carefully, weighing all the pros and cons. Give preference calm landscapes or abstract images... They will allow you to escape from worries, relieve stress and sleep peacefully. It is best to choose the image so that the primary colors intersect with the palette used to decorate the bedroom. Thus, you can achieve complete harmony and include a modular picture in the interior.

Children

Do not overload the nursery with bright colors. If there are enough of them in the decoration of the room, then it is better to choose a picture in the same range... The kid will be interested in figurines of familiar animals, but abstract patterns are best avoided.

If a teenager lives in the room, then invite him to make a choice on his own. Your favorite movie actor, musician or sportsman may appear on the canvas. Another interesting option is to create composition from their own photos.

Hallway

For the hallway, designers advise to select the most simple images... This is due to the fact that people rarely stay in this room. The owners and their guests simply will not have the opportunity to carefully examine the painting with an interesting abstract pattern. Remember that the hallway sets the tone for the entire interior of the apartment, so the drawing should emphasize the chosen style.

Kitchen

Juicy, bright and stylish - this is the perfect combination for the kitchen. You may not be afraid to experiment, but still the image should be combined with the interior of the room. Modular paintings for the kitchen are best post on a free wall... If there is not a lot of space, then it is better to abandon the decor and give preference to more functional shelves.

Modular paintings in the interior: photo

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of decorative elements in the interior. It is best to mount modular paintings on a wall that is free of furniture. Choose images that emphasize the style and complement the atmosphere of comfort and tranquility.

It is really quite possible to make a modular picture yourself at home. In this case, no special abilities and tools are required.

Well, you probably know what modular paintings are, since you are interested in this article. But just in case, I will briefly explain.

A modular painting is an image on paper, special canvas or other suitable fabric, divided into segments or modules. The number of segments can be different, from two to five or more. In general, modular paintings provide great opportunities for imagination, since there are no strict requirements for the number and configuration of segments in a painting.

Currently, the method of decorating an interior with modular paintings is one of the most popular. Therefore, it will be quite expedient, profitable and most importantly interesting to try to make a modular picture yourself. The process is creative.

And so, let's move on to the practical side of the issue, that is, to the production of a picture.

As mentioned above, the image can be applied to different materials, so you need to decide on this issue at the very beginning. This is important because what the image will be attached to will depend on it. If it is a special canvas or fabric, then wooden frames will be required to make the segments. If the image is on paper or vinyl, then bases made of foam, plywood or chipboard are suitable. Therefore, I propose to consider each option separately.

But first, let's talk a little more about the image.

Where can I get an image for a painting?

Probably, this will be one of the most difficult and responsible questions in the process of making a picture. Let's try to list the possible options.

You can find on the Internet your favorite image of a modular picture of good quality in high resolution and print it on a color printer. True, the format will turn out to be not very large, but since the picture does not consist of one module, but of several, then, in general, it may turn out to be an acceptable option.

You can contact any advertising campaign you have and they will print your image in the required format on good paper or canvas.

You can pick up a large poster or poster without a stretcher in a specialty store that sells printed materials and cut it into segments. It is not advisable to choose canvases with the image of a face. Firstly, the face divided into segments does not look very aesthetically pleasing, and secondly, it will have to be carefully combined between adjacent modules.

You can choose suitable wallpaper and also cut the image into segments. By the way, in this case, one set of photowall-paper can be enough for several modular paintings, if, of course, you choose the plot successfully.

It will still be much cheaper to make a modular picture using the indicated materials yourself than to buy a finished one. Let's start with this.

Making a modular picture from a poster or photo wallpaper

And so, we purchased a poster or photo wallpaper and now we need to cut them into blanks for picture modules. We determine from our own ideas about the beautiful with the configuration of the picture and mark the image into the required number of modules of the required size. Most often they are not made the same. After that we cut the image into pieces.

Now we need to decide on the dimensions of the base of the modules, which we will make from plywood, fiberboard or not very thick foam. Not very thick, because when we fold the edges of the cut sheets to the back side, the image will be slightly reduced by the thickness of the base. And if the foam is thick enough, then the pattern between adjacent modules will not exactly match.

The dimensions of the base for the modules must be such so that the cut sheets with the image are wider than them by the amount of fold. This is approximately two to three centimeters on each side, depending on the thickness of the base.

And so, we take an ordinary hacksaw, preferably with a fine tooth, and cut out the bases for the modules, after which we process the ends with sandpaper.

We put the sheet face down on the table, grease the base of the module with a thin layer of PVA glue and apply it neatly on top. Flip and smooth the image.

It remains to tuck the edges and fix them. The easiest way to fix it is to glue it with tape, but it is not very durable. It will be safer to grease the edges of the sheet and the base of the module with PVA glue, glue it, put a sheet of paper on top and walk with a not very heated iron. The rest of the modules are manufactured in the same way.

I am not showing you the finished picture, because I described the manufacturing process simply using the example of a separate module.

Making a modular canvas painting

In this case, in addition to a hacksaw and a tape measure, you will need a miter box and a construction or furniture stapler from a tool. A miter box, if you don’t know, is a simple plastic device that is designed to cut slats at an angle of 45 degrees. It is sold in hardware stores and is quite cheap.

Let's assume that you managed to print the desired image on the canvas in some advertising company. Then we can make the modular picture more durable than in the previous case. True, and you will have to work a little more.

But first, let's talk more about preparing the image. In order for the image on the modules to fit in the best way and the picture is not distorted, you need to print the fragments for the modules with an allowance for the fold. This is approximately 5 cm on each side.

To do this, you need to prepare a digital image in advance, dividing it into fragments with an allowance in width per fold. This can be done in Photoshop or the simpler FastStone Image Viewer program. In it, you can crop an image in any form in a matter of minutes. This program is freely available on the Internet and is very easy to install.

As a last resort, you can ask to split the picture in the same place where you will print the image.

At the next stage, you will need to make frames for the painting modules.

To do this, you need wooden slats with a cross section of approximately 25 x 50 mm.

If you managed to purchase a miter box, then the process of making frames will be noticeably reduced.

Calculate the dimensions of each module and use these dimensions to cut the workpieces from the rails. To do this, insert the slats one by one into the miter box and saw off at an angle of 45 degrees.

If you didn't have a miter box, then it doesn't matter. You can also mark and saw off the slats at a specified angle using a square. Moreover, special sawing accuracy is not required in this case.

Next, you need to glue the frame. To do this, grease the ends of the slats with wood glue and squeeze them tightly for a few minutes, while checking the corners with a square. After that, it is necessary to allow the glue to dry for several hours, and then fasten corners with a stapler. On the back side, it is necessary to fasten the corners carefully, and on the front side only with two paper clips for each corner.

Let's assume that the framework is ready. After that, you need to stretch the canvas over them. Moreover, it is necessary to stretch the canvas strongly enough, otherwise it will eventually sag and wrinkle under the influence of changing humidity in the room.

You should start attaching the canvas from the long side of the frame. You need to fix the canvas in the middle of the rail on a couple of paper clips using a stapler. After that, properly stretch the canvas and fasten it on the opposite side, also on two paper clips. Then we continue to fasten the canvas, moving from the middle of the frame to the corners, but not to the end. At the corners, fold the canvas as shown in the photo, and then finally fix the canvas.

We act in the same way with the rest of the modules, after which it will be possible to assume that our picture is ready. Now it remains to correctly hang it on the wall. You can read about how to do this without unnecessary hassle in the article.

Making a modular picture from fabric

You can also make a modular picture yourself from a suitable fabric, especially if an image is printed on it. You can also pick up an ordinary fabric with some interesting pattern.

In this case, the description of the manufacturing process will be much shorter than the previous one, for the reason that they are in many ways similar.

We take the selected fabric, mark it with a small or sharp piece of soap and cut it into fragments with a hem allowance.

After that, we stretch the fragments onto the frames made in the previously described way.

The only difference is that the fabric should not be pulled as tightly as the canvas, because it can stretch unevenly and the pattern will be distorted. Otherwise, the manufacturing process is the same as in the case of canvas.

These are, for example, modular paintings you can get if you show patience, imagination and accuracy:

Additionally, you can watch a video, which clearly shows the process of making a modular picture. This will add confidence in your own abilities.

In addition, you can use the useful for making modular paintings. It shows the entire manufacturing process in sufficient detail.

I hope that in this article I have given you enough material to risk making a modular painting yourself.

But if you decide that you cannot afford to make a modular picture yourself or you don’t have free time and materials, then there is an easier way out of this situation. A large selection of modular paintings of excellent quality is presented in the catalog of the manufacturer Artwall.ru. Here you can find not only modular paintings, but also posters, as well as copies of paintings by famous artists on natural canvas, wallpaper and photo curtains. In general, everything you need to decorate interiors.

In addition, you can advise another manufacturer of modular paintings, as well as reproductions of paintings and portraits on natural canvas. This is ProCanvas. Of the two proposed options of manufacturing firms, you will definitely be able to choose what you need.

Sincerely, .
