Step-by-step pencil drawings for beginners. How to learn to draw with a pencil for beginners? step-by-step master classes with photos

Who among us has not dreamed of becoming an artist at least once? Especially in childhood, many of us wanted to learn how to draw beautifully, and maybe even paint real pictures. But, as often happens, dreams were shattered due to a banal lack of skills. Either due to a change of interests, or because of ordinary laziness, many lacked the desire and patience to continue developing in this direction.

So how can beginners learn to draw with a pencil?

Like any creative activity, the art of drawing contains many subtleties and helps to reveal to its owner not only creative potential, but also to realize your worldview in a beautiful form. These subtleties will be discussed further.

Stages and principles of training

Often, in order to fully learn how to draw, they resort to step-by-step training and practice of drawing various compositions of different plans. There is quite a big difference, if you, for example, are trying to draw a person, or are trying to realize some kind of landscape on paper. That is why in this case it is very important to master the skills of drawing a wide variety of objects.

Another basic principle in learning to draw is regularity. Practice is the decisive factor in developing drawing skills. It would not be a bad idea to create a specific schedule for the week, according to which you could devote at least 20 minutes a day to this activity. It follows from this that you also need to show some patience in such training.

What do you need to get started?

So, first of all, find yourself notebook with fairly large leaves. There should be at least 50 sheets. The second point in your preparation should be the choice pencil taste. There are a great variety of pencils, so in your case best choice will be the one you are used to using. For example, it could be a pencil with a soft lead. Naturally, a little later you will have to buy more necessary pencils to improve the quality of your work.

Get yourself a calendar too. Where you will celebrate not only your class schedule, but also your successes. At first you will have to force yourself to strictly follow the schedule, but over time it will become part of your lifestyle and will bring great pleasure.

Try to draw something on the first page. Don't worry about the high quality of the drawing. After a certain time, you will open the notebook to the first page and be surprised at the difference between how it was and what changes have occurred.

Basics

Many people think that drawing is a skill that depends only on natural talent, so they easily find excuses in the format of “not given” or “doesn’t work out.” But it’s not just about talent, but also about acquired skills. A person who can draw well without knowledge basic principles- a rare exception. Any business needs to be learned. Therefore, next we will look at the basic laws and techniques of drawing.

There are 9 basic laws of drawing, after learning which you will learn to draw quite high level. Let's discuss them.

  • Law of perspective. Objects that the author wants to visually bring closer are distorted in such a way that one part of it appears closer than another part of it.
  • Arrangement of objects. Objects that are at the bottom of the sheet appear much closer than others.
  • Law of size. The object in the picture, which, according to the author’s plan, should be located closer, should, accordingly, look larger than those located further away.
  • Law of overlap. An object that is in front of another becomes visually closer to us.
  • Law of penumbra. The conventionally unlit part of the object, which is located on the opposite side of the light source, should be darker.
  • Law of the shadow. To make the drawn object seem three-dimensional, you need to add a cast shadow to it, also strictly on back side from the light source.
  • Law of contours. It is necessary to accentuate the contours of round objects to give them depth.
  • Law of the horizon. This is the case when the horizon is drawn so that the depicted objects appear to be at different distances from the observer.
  • Density law. To make it seem that objects are at different distances, it is also necessary to draw near objects in more detail and distant objects in less detail.

Using these 9 basic laws in practice, it will not be difficult for you to move to the next level in drawing.

Also, in order to avoid simple mistakes, a beginner needs to follow a few important stages when creating a sketch of a drawing. Here they are:

We draw from simple to complex

More or less known fact, that the drawing is different from the drawing. What we mean first of all is that drawing a person is far from the same as drawing, say, a tree. Different things require perfect execution different approaches. That is why further we will consider in detail the technique of drawing various compositions.

Don't take it right away complex compositions. Because in the science of drawing, the mindset with which you start working is very important. If you immediately took up complex drawing, and nothing worked out for you, then you are guaranteed a bad mood. You may even lose the desire to pick up a pencil altogether. Therefore, in our training we will go from simple to complex, gradually learning new drawing techniques. Let's start with something simple.

Drawing geometric shapes

Because looking for suitable layouts geometric shapes will be quite long in time, we will be based on our imagination. For convenience, you can even download ready-made pictures of various geometric shapes from the Internet.

Cube

Let's draw a cube. Take this picture as a basis:

Repeat all the edges and sides of the geometric figure. Don't forget that the back wall of the cube is proportionally smaller than the front. Now let's pay attention to the shadow.

Imagine the light source is in front. This will make the front side of the cube lighter and the sides darker. Shade the sides. Mark the lines of the front corner with a pencil, and leave the rest thin. He will attract all the attention of the observer.

To give your figure a unique look, you can slightly distort the proportions. So we might end up with something similar.

Cylinder

Draw the plane on which your figure will be located. It should not be in the air, because the shadow must fall on something. Find on this plane the ideal place to locate the central axis of your cylinder. Draw a vertical line straight up from this point. Draw ellipses around both ends of this line. Connect the lower and upper ellipses with the same vertical lines. The sketch is almost ready. For convenience, you can add a couple of auxiliary lines. For example, in front, such a line can mark the border of the shadow. Draw the outline of the shadow on the horizontal plane on which your figure is located. The result should be something like this:

Now that we're done with the frame, it's time shade the main parts of our figure. Again, given that the light must be strictly in opposite direction from the shadow, we mark by eye where the highlight will be. It is also worth considering that the glare on the cylinder will not form a spot, but a vertical stripe. Shading more dark shade the area from the shadow line to the rear border of the cylinder. Lubricate the border of the hatching to make the transition smooth. Shade the shadow of the figure itself. Leave the upper part of the cylinder light.

Drawing a sphere

Let's try to depict one of the basic geometric shapes, on the basis of which more complex objects will be drawn in the future. This figure is a sphere. She is even easier to draw than the others. You need to draw a circle. Next, from the edges of this circle, you need to draw several more concentric circles inside this figure. These circles may not be perfectly regular; moreover, they may take the shape of an ellipse.

They will serve us in order to do the shading correctly. Refer to the picture below.

Shade the circles according to the diagram shown. Draw another ellipse on the main plane. Shade this ellipse too to create a shadow. The sphere is ready.

Exercise

Try using the sphere drawing skill to draw more complex compositions, such as a plum. Notice what changes have occurred to the shadow? What happened in the end?

Answer

Shadow and light switched places. As a result, the berry acquired the illusion of transparency.

So, we found out that drawing geometric shapes is not such a difficult task.

Based on a basic knowledge of geometry and the skill of drawing such figures, you will be able to create more complex compositions with their help.

Drawing dishes

The next most difficult stage in pencil drawing is drawing dishes. In this case, the main difficulty lies more in the correct placement of shadows, both on the subject and around it.

Let's draw simple vase. It will be great if you find a suitable example that you can study in advance.

At the very beginning, we need to indicate the parameters of the object using straight lines. Draw a small horizontal line at the bottom of the sheet. This line will be the bottom of our vase. From the center of the horizontal line, perpendicular to it, draw a vertical line. This line will indicate the height of the object. Draw another horizontal line at the top of the vertical one. If anything is not clear to you, refer to the figure below:

As we can see, we will need another horizontal line marking the narrow neck of the vase. Draw it. Next, you need to draw ellipses with centers coinciding with the intersection points of the vertical and horizontal lines. They are needed to add volume to the vase.

The next step will be drawing the outline of the object. For example, it could be like this:

The final stage will be drawing light and shadows. This is done in the same way as with geometric shapes. Simply, first you need to decide what underlies each part of the object, a sphere, cylinder, cone or cube.

Try to ensure that the outline of your vase is symmetrical on both sides.

Drawing a cup

First, using the proven method, we need to draw the vertical and horizontal lines. This time, the base of the cup will be much smaller than its neck, and not the same. Draw ellipses for the top and bottom.

Plants

Unlike geometric shapes and dishes, drawing various plants is a more difficult task than it might seem at first. For example, in contrast to relatively simple objects, in the case of flowers, bushes, trees and many others, it is better to always have a living example before your eyes. It is very difficult to reliably imagine such a number of different details and correctly display them on paper. Or it could be finished image original. With the level of detail of the drawing, it is important to decide the issue at the very beginning. After all, it can be as simple as possible, or, on the contrary, contain a large number of details.

Drawings by degree of detail:

Let's start drawing.

Make a preliminary sketch of your composition. If it is not one flower but several, draw them so that the stems are slightly curved and the buds look in different directions. You don't have to make all the lines perfectly correct.

One of the most interesting things is that the initial sketch can consist of geometric shapes, albeit a little distorted. Take a closer look.

What do you see? The picture contains at least a circle, ovals, a cylinder, a distorted rhombus and cones. This tells us that sometimes, even complex images on initial stage, can be drawn using simple shapes.

Start drawing out the details. Draw the petals and add some irregularities to the petals. Add leaves to the composition. Focus on the original.

A tulip flower usually has about 6-7 petals that partially overlap each other.

If you pay attention, you will note that the thickness of the stems is the same along the entire length. The leaves are long, with a sharp end, curved. Leaves envelop the stem. Also pay attention to attaching the stem to the bud. This is noticeable on the flower turning back.

The final stage will be adding light and shadow. Using light strokes, make the areas inside the flower more shaded, as well as on inside leaves. The places where the petals intersect can also be slightly shaded. This will give the petals a transparent effect. Draw the stamens. They can be emphasized with a darker color.

As you can see from the last lesson, creating a simple composition is not a problem if you know basic fundamentals drawing, from simple to complex.

Drawing an oak tree

Trees are very often integral part different complex paintings. For example, these could be landscapes where numerous trees echo images of animals, which will be discussed later.

Take hard pencil. It will be needed to very loosely draw a general sketch of the tree. As always, we will go from the general to the details.

Draw a tree trunk. Since we are drawing an oak tree, it should be thick. Draw branches from the tree trunk.

Add a few clouds of leaves inside the crown. You need to deliberately leave empty areas so that some branches are visible.

Thicken the branches where they are not covered by leaves.

Start applying the main shadows. Before doing this, think about which side the light will fall from and how parts can be further shaded.

Draw the leaves. Add detail to them and distribute the shadows correctly. Select several leaves throughout the crown. This adds volume to the picture. The oak is ready!

It is not necessary to draw every leaf in the final image. You can simply thicken the contours of the leaves.

If you are starting from scratch - complete zero, like me, and wanted to learn how to draw with a pencil - read the chronicle of a lazy, mediocre artist. The last time I drew was at school. I drew like everyone else, averagely.

How can you draw with a pencil after 50 hours of practice?, and how to learn it. I started drawing from scratch. I did not draw regularly, on average 15 minutes a day, for six months. And you can learn in a couple of months, drawing 60 minutes a day!

Drawing - copying skill

I started drawing the following drawings in the belief that I was mediocre at drawing. But since I know that almost everything I know about myself is not true. I decided to double-check myself: do I really have crooked hands or did I suffer that much at school?

Learning to draw a portrait

Learn to draw a hand

Exam: first portrait!

Drawing people is much more difficult than roses or anime. The face cannot be distorted - every mistake is immediately noticeable. You need to learn to draw people when you feel confident that you can draw a recognizable outline and sketch of a face.

Portraits cannot be drawn quickly; diligence and care are required. This is the portrait I ended up with of my wife:

Learn to draw pictures from scratch

I painted eight paintings in a total of 24 hours, half the time. I also practiced with a pencil for one day. You can learn to draw to the same results, even if your hands are growing out of your ass, in 50–150 hours. In terms of TV series, this is 2-3 seasons of Dr. House.

Vasya Lozhkin took 6 hours to paint his first acrylic painting, “And I Like You.” I didn’t know what acrylic was and how to use it. I also held a brush for the first time since school.

Kneading the desired shade is not easy. To give up everything because it wasn’t working out – I wanted to do it every half hour. We need a person who will support. I went to study at an art studio and painted under the supervision of an artist. A year later, I took online drawing lessons a couple of times from the same teacher.

I learned to draw with a pencil, and the skill turned out to be complex. I picked up a brush for the first time since school and painted. 6 long hours, a little crooked, but how great! Now I can give an extraordinary gift - draw a picture for a friend, a bookmark in a notebook, a caricature for work. I even made a small cartoon.

First painting: pastel, acrylic, gouache and oil. All the equipment is made from scratch, and there’s no shame in hanging it on the wall.

How to learn to draw correctly - algorithm

Learning to draw with a pencil is the basis: demolish angles, line sizes, maintain proportions. Just learn not to be afraid to draw. Master the initial level, and then it will only get more fun and easier.

How to learn to draw

    Let's draw with a simple pencil .

A fundamental drawing tool. Almost all illustrations, sketches and paintings are drawn first in pencil. Then it is rubbed down to barely visible lines, or we paint on top with paints. Errors are easily corrected. #1 for beginners.

    Let's draw gel pens.

A simple tool for drawing in color. The drawing technique is similar to the technique of drawing with a pencil - after all, it is a pen, not a brush. You can correct errors only in Photoshop.

We draw with felt-tip pens. Analogues: markers and professional “copies”.

More variety of colors than gel pens. The set will cost less. After 1–2 years, the markers dry out and you need to buy a new set.

The felt-tip pens saturate the paper a little and it begins to become limp, which is why I don’t like drawing with them. You can draw 2-3 times and the line becomes more saturated, you can draw penumbra.

    We paint with watercolors.

Cheap materials, and familiar from school. They are diluted with water, so the new layer of paint blurs the previous one. It is difficult to master how she will behave. From scratch, on your own, it’s not easy to learn how to draw details. The advantage is accessibility.

  • We draw with gouache.

Matte color, thicker than watercolor, is also diluted with water. Great for beginners: it's easier to correct inaccuracies than watercolor. Cheap material.

  • Let's draw acrylic paints .

The most affordable professional material. Acrylic dries quickly, 5-15 minutes. It is easy for them to apply a second layer and correct flaws. If it is of high quality, it is resistant to water.

Acrylic paint on canvas. You can also draw anything: a wall, a stool, a cup, a helmet, an ashtray, a T-shirt, photo frames. I recommend then opening the work with varnish from a can.

  • Let's draw pastel – dry and oil.

The technique of drawing with pastels is unusual - you need to draw with crayons, rubbing them on paper.

The technique of drawing with oil pastels is similar to drawing with pencils, but has its own characteristics.

  • Painting with oils.

Complex professional paints. Durable, but you can’t buy cheap ones - they crack.

It takes a long time to dry, about 2–10 days. This is a plus - you can always remove a layer, finish drawing, shade. But there is also a minus, you need to very carefully apply a layer on top so as not to spoil what you have. I do not recommend using them for beginners.

Can you learn to draw with a pencil? . Find “Why?”, buy a textbook and draw for fun. In a month, you will be surprised at your abilities.

If you want to learn a new interesting activity and learn how to draw with a pencil from scratch, there are special methods for beginners. They make the process of creating an image easier. Even if you have never gone to an art studio or art school, with desire, patience and perseverance, it is quite possible to master this technique.

Choosing the main tool

If you decide to learn how to draw with a pencil from scratch, first of all, you will need leads of various hardnesses. Most often, HB or TM in the Russian version is used, but it is also necessary to have H (T), B (M), 2B (M). The marking indicates softness, and the number corresponds to its degree. The number is 2H (2T) the hardest that is usually used. It leaves a very thin, barely noticeable line. If you press hard with a well-sharpened pencil, it may even leave a scratch on the paper. The designation HB corresponds to medium hard-soft. The larger the number of the marking B (M), the darker and wider the line on the sheet will be.

To learn, three different styluses are enough. It is worth noting that graphite can be sold both in a wooden frame and in the form of rods for mechanical tools. They also produce sticks with a diameter of a regular pencil, which are coated on the outside with a special non-staining layer. In this case it is convenient to use lateral surface sharpened part for shading large surfaces. They are often purchased for quick sketches. You can choose any option.

What else is needed?

If you're trying to learn how to draw with a pencil from scratch, be sure to have a good eraser. It should be soft so as not to injure once again layer of paper.

For the same purpose, draw contours with thin lines. Keep in mind that pencils should always be kept sharp. It is acceptable for a beginner to use a sharpener, but professionals only use a knife. This is due to the resulting shape of the pointed part. To perform the correct shading, it is recommended to sharpen the tool hollowly, that is, the lead is freed from the wood by one or even two centimeters, making a gradual transition of the cut to the sides of the pencil cylinder. A beginner should know this only for general information. Do what is easier and more convenient for you.

Possible execution techniques

The easiest way to learn how to draw with a pencil from scratch is linear. easier to do than with tonal elaboration.

Sometimes an inexperienced artist thinks that he has made a portrait very similar to the original, but during the shading process his opinion changes. For training, you can perform several works exactly linearly, applying only light shadows in some places. It will give the impression quick sketch. After all, you don’t have to tell everyone that you just don’t have enough experience yet.

As you practice, your hand will gain confidence, and you will be able to move on to working out the form in light and shadow. In the manuals “How to learn to draw with a pencil for beginners,” they often suggest using shading. It involves rubbing graphite over a sheet.

In this option, you will not see individual lines, and the transitions between tones will be very smooth. Hatching is more difficult to master. Each individual element must be located very tightly next to the neighboring one, otherwise the integrity of the object will not be obtained, but the impression will be striped, hairy - anything but a single shape.

So, at the first stage, use shading. You can rub the pencil mark using a soft piece of paper or even your finger, but it is worth remembering that professionals do not do this. If you are planning to study at an art school, you will have to forget about this method of drawing. If you have serious intentions, it is better to immediately master the technique of shading, gradually developing your hand. This will come in handy in the future.

How to do shading correctly?

If you decide to use a professional method, it is better to practice first on regular sheets.

Try pencils of different softness in action. Try to make tonal transitions using the same lead. The main thing is to try to ensure that the strokes fit tightly to each other, do not use lines crossed at right angles. It is better to apply them according to the shape, that is, if you have a cube in front of you, then the shading should be done either in a vertical direction or parallel to the lines of the edges. Do more exercise. Remember, mastery comes with experience.

How to fix errors?

If during work you are not satisfied with the quality of something, the pencil is easily erased.

However, in order not to remove excess, it makes sense to make a cut on the eraser with a knife, forming a thin edge. If you start to actively erase the shading, you can smear too much of the work done or seriously injure the paper. A new layer of graphite does not fit well on a damaged surface. For removing large quantity shading or partial weakening of the tone, if the object is too dark, use a special erasing mass. It resembles plasticine or is called a nag in professional slang. It easily absorbs excess graphite. A lump of ordinary bread crumb has the same property. So, even if you overdid something in your first experience, mistakes can always be corrected. The main thing is to try not to repeat them next time.

What is better to draw for beginners?

If you are interested in how to learn how to draw with a pencil step by step, everything is simple - the work should always be done from simple to complex and from general to detail.

Whatever plot you choose, the sequence of steps will be similar. Of course, it is better for beginners not to use too complex motifs with big amount constituent elements. This can only be done by having a clear visual step by step instructions. For independent drawing, choose simple objects and compositions from them, for example, a still life of household items, fruits, vegetables lying on a table or in a basket.

It's worth being patient if you decide to learn how to learn how to draw portraits with a pencil.

This is one of the most difficult tasks even for a professional. It is very difficult for a beginner to master it. Of course, everyone has objects that, regardless of skill level and experience, they want to depict. Choose your favorite subjects, just try to find and study as many tips and tricks for drawing them as possible. It's about about such complex objects as animals, flowers, architecture, cars, motorcycles, boats, people.

How to learn to draw cars with a pencil? You can copy them from a photograph (for example, by cells; the technique is described in more detail in the next section). It will be easiest for novice artists to depict a car from the side.

pencil?

Making a person's face is one of the most difficult tasks. A beginner can be offered a method of creating an image using cells from a photograph.

It allows you to more accurately convey proportions. To do this, take the following steps:

1. Draw a cellular structure on a transparent film.

2. Place it on the photo and secure it so that it does not accidentally move.

3. On your sheet of paper prepared for the portrait, also make an auxiliary construction in the form of cells.

4. Compare how the lines on the original intersect the cells, try to repeat them as accurately as possible with a pencil.

So, you have learned how to learn to draw with a pencil. It's quite easy step by step. The most important thing is to follow the sequence of work from general to detail, and also try to choose first simple objects for execution.

First, a little theory. It may probably seem that theory is not very important, but studying theory is one of the main stages in the development of artists. To learn how to draw realistic sketches, you need to know the nine basic laws of drawing:

1. Perspective: those figures that are closer seem large, and those that are far away seem small.

2. Position: those figures that are located lower on the sheet, they visually seem closer.

3. Dimensions: the larger the figure is drawn, the closer it will appear.

4. Overlap: the object that is drawn in front of another object visually appears closer

5. Shadow: the plane on which the figure is located should be darker on the opposite side than the light source.

6. Fill: that part of the figure that will be located on the other side of the source from which the light will come, this part should be the darkest in order to produce the effect of depth.

7. Contour lines: in order to draw round shapes, you need to draw contour lines.

8. Horizon line: you need to draw a horizon line to draw a three-dimensional image.

9. Distance: to create an imitation of the distance between figures, distant figures need to be depicted a little lighter and drawn less clearly.

Without following these laws, you will not be able to draw a picture. Knowledge of the nine basic laws of drawing is the basis for successful learning to draw. The more often you draw and apply these laws, the sooner you will begin to remember them, and it will become increasingly easier to use them and apply them in practice.

Important Principles

The next step after learning the basic laws of drawing is to know the three tricks that you should always remember: attitude, detail and practice.

1. Mood: in order to tune in to positive work, you need to convince yourself that you are ready and say that everything is within your power! Only with positive thoughts can you learn and apply new artistic skills.

2. Details: adding different details makes the drawing more alive, and if you try to add something new, perhaps the drawing will turn out much more unusual.

3. Practice: in order to master perfectly the skills that you have learned, these skills must be used every day at work to consolidate them.

Training these principles is very important for developing artistic skills.

Tools

The next stage is choice necessary tools for drawing, they should be convenient and practical:

1. You will need a notebook or album. Although any paper can be used to start drawing, it can be plain white or it can be tinted, thin or thick. If you decide to use special paper, you will certainly be able to achieve much better results than with plain paper. It is important to know what raw materials the drawing paper is made from. Paper tester, test grain size has
greater value.

There are two types of paper, fine grain paper and coarse grain paper. If you take fine-grained paper, then this type of paper will be suitable for any type of drawing, but coarse-grained paper is suitable for writing on it with watercolors. The artist himself chooses to draw on coarse-grained or fine-grained paper. Premium grade paper is marked with a watermark in the corner.

2. Great for sketching school pencils, which have four degrees of hardness: No. 1 - 2B, No. 2-B, No. 3-H, and No. 4 - 2H. In order to succeed good drawings, it is better to use pencils numbered 2 and 3. If you are serious about learning, it would be better to buy a complete set of top quality drawing pencils. There are 19 degrees of hardness: H - hard, HB and F - medium hard, B - soft.

3. Calendar and planning – one of the most important stages. In order to achieve good results in the future, you need to draw for at least twenty minutes every day. So for this you will need to create an action plan and constantly monitor the implementation of the plan.

Drawing stages

First step

First, you will need to take your pencil and calendar - now you will need to create a schedule for the lessons that you will do throughout the week. Of course, you need to take into account that there are other activities besides drawing, so even these twenty minutes can be divided and made into two 10-minute classes.

To achieve success, you need to work hard every day, acquire new skills, study techniques, review work famous artists for inspiration. After just a month of hard work, results will be visible.

Second step

The most important thing is to just sit down at the table and start drawing! When you sit down at the table, you will need to take a deep breath, and then you need to smile. Then take a piece of paper and put it in front of you and now try to draw.

Now you need to check yourself. First you will need to draw a few objects. You need to relax! You must also understand that you are doing this for yourself, and only you can draw this picture. It is necessary that you now draw just such a drawing, which will then help you improve your skills in the future. But even if you feel lazy or just don’t want to draw this part of the picture, you will definitely have to force yourself to draw this moment of the picture. Then, by the end of the month, you yourself will understand that this was not done in vain!

Third step
