Simple modular paintings. How to make a modular picture from photo wallpapers. How to draw flowers

It is really quite possible to make a modular picture yourself at home. It does not require any special skills or tools.

Well, you probably know what modular paintings are, because you are interested in this article. But just in case, I will briefly explain.

A modular painting is an image on paper, a special canvas or other suitable fabric, divided into segments or modules. The number of segments can be different, from two to five or more. In general, modular paintings provide great opportunities for imagination, since there are no strict requirements for the number and configuration of segments in the picture.

Currently, the method of decorating the interior with modular paintings is one of the most popular. Therefore, it will be quite expedient, profitable and most importantly interesting to try to make a modular picture yourself. The process is creative.

And so, let's move on to the practical side of the issue, that is, to making a picture.

As mentioned above, the image can be applied to different materials, so you need to decide on this issue at the very beginning. This is important because it will depend on what the image will be attached to. If this is a special canvas or fabric, then wooden frames will be required to make the segments. If the image is on paper or vinyl, then bases made of foam, plywood or chipboard are suitable. Therefore, I propose to consider each option separately.

But first, let's talk about the image.

Where can I get an image for a painting?

Probably, this will be one of the most difficult and responsible issues in the process of making a picture. Let's try to list the possible options.

You can find on the Internet the image you like of a good quality modular picture in high resolution and print it on a color printer. True, the format will turn out to be not very large, but since the picture does not consist of one module, but of several, then in general, it may turn out to be an acceptable option.

You can contact any advertising campaign you have and they will print your image in the right size on good paper or canvas.

You can choose a suitable poster or poster without a large stretcher in a specialized store that sells printed materials and cut it into segments. It is not advisable to choose canvases with the image of a face. Firstly, the face divided into segments does not look very aesthetically pleasing, and secondly, it will have to be carefully combined between adjacent modules.

You can choose the appropriate wallpaper and also cut the image into segments. By the way, in this case, one set of photo wallpapers can be enough for several modular paintings, unless, of course, you choose the plot well.

Making a modular picture yourself from the indicated materials will still be much cheaper than buying a finished one. Let's start with this.

Making a modular picture from a poster or photo wallpaper

And so, we purchased a poster or murals and now we need to cut them into blanks for the picture modules. We determine from our own ideas about beauty with the configuration of the picture and mark up the image into the required number of modules of the required size. Most often they are not made the same. After that, we cut the image into parts.

Now we need to decide on the dimensions of the base of the modules, which we will make from plywood, fiberboard or not very thick foam. Not very thick, because when we begin to fold the edges of the cut sheets to the reverse side, the image will be slightly cut to the thickness of the base. And if the foam is thick enough, then the pattern between adjacent modules will not exactly match.

The dimensions of the base for the modules should be so that the cut out sheets with the image are wider than them by the amount of the fold. This is about two to three centimeters on each side, depending on the thickness of the base.

And so, we take an ordinary hacksaw, preferably with a small tooth, and cut out the bases for the modules, after which we process the ends with sandpaper.

We put the sheet with the image down on the table, grease the base of the module with a thin layer of PVA glue and apply it carefully on top. Flip and smooth the image.

It remains to tuck the edges and fix them. The easiest way to fix it is to glue it with tape, but it is not very durable. It will be more reliable to grease the edges of the sheet and the base of the module with PVA glue, glue it, put a sheet of paper on top and walk with a not very hot iron. The rest of the modules are made in a similar way.

I do not show you the finished picture, because I described the manufacturing process simply using the example of a single module.

Making a modular canvas painting

In this case, apart from a hacksaw and a tape measure, you will need a miter box and a construction or furniture stapler from the tool. A miter box, in case you don't know it, is a simple plastic tool that is designed to cut battens at a 45 degree angle. It is sold in hardware stores and is quite cheap.

We will assume that you managed to print the desired image on canvas in some advertising company. Then we can make the modular picture more durable than in the previous case. True, it will take a little more work.

But first, let's talk more about image preparation. In order for the image on the modules to be combined in the best way and the picture not to be distorted, it is necessary to print fragments for the modules with an allowance for the hem. It's about 5 cm on each side.

To do this, you need to prepare a digital image in advance by dividing it into fragments with an allowance in width based on the hem. This can be done in Photoshop or the simpler FastStone Image Viewer. In it, you can crop the image in any form in a matter of minutes. This program is freely available on the Internet and is very easy to install.

As a last resort, you can ask to split the picture in the same place where you will print the image.

At the next stage, you will need to make frames for the picture modules.

To do this, you need wooden slats with a cross section of approximately 25 x 50 mm.

If you managed to purchase a miter box, then the process of making frames will be noticeably reduced.

Calculate the dimensions of each module and saw off the blanks from the rails according to these dimensions. To do this, alternately insert the slats into the miter box and saw off at an angle of 45 degrees.

If you didn’t have a miter box, then it doesn’t matter. You can also mark and saw off the slats at the specified angle using a square. Moreover, in this case, special sawing accuracy is not required.

Next, you need to glue the frame. To do this, lubricate the ends of the rails with wood glue and squeeze tightly for several minutes, while checking the corners with a square. After that, it is necessary to allow the glue to dry for several hours, and then fasten corners with a stapler. On the back side, it is necessary to fasten the corners carefully, and on the front side, only two paper clips per corner.

Let's assume that the frames are ready. After that, you need to stretch the canvas over them. Moreover, you need to stretch the canvas quite strongly, otherwise, over time, under the influence of changing humidity in the room, it will begin to sag and wrinkle.

Start fastening the canvas from the long side of the frame. It is necessary in the middle of the rail to fix the canvas on a couple of paper clips using a stapler. After that, stretch the canvas properly and fasten it on the opposite side also with two paper clips. Then we continue to fasten the canvas, moving from the middle of the frame to the corners, but not to the end. At the corners, fold the canvas as shown in the photo, and then finally fix the canvas.

We do the same with the rest of the modules, after which we can assume that our picture is ready. Now it remains to properly hang it on the wall. You can read about how to do this without unnecessary hassle in the article.

Making a modular picture from fabric

You can also make a modular picture yourself from a suitable fabric, especially if an image is printed on it. You can also pick up an ordinary fabric with some interesting pattern.

In this case, the description of the manufacturing process will be much shorter than the previous one, for the reason that they are largely similar.

We take the selected fabric, mark it with a small or sharp piece of soap and cut it into fragments with a hem allowance.

After that, we stretch the fragments onto the frames made by the previously described method.

The only difference is that the fabric should not be stretched as tightly as the canvas, because it can stretch unevenly and the pattern will be distorted. Otherwise, the manufacturing process is the same as in the case of canvas.

Here are, for example, modular paintings you can get if you show patience, imagination and accuracy:

Additionally, you can watch a video in which the process of manufacturing a modular picture is shown in a visual form. This will add to your self-confidence.

In addition, you can use the useful for the manufacture of modular paintings. It shows the entire manufacturing process in sufficient detail.

I hope that in this article I have given you enough material to take the risk of making a modular painting yourself.

But if you decide that for the time being you can’t do a modular painting yourself or you don’t have free time and materials, then there is an easier way out of this situation. A large selection of modular paintings of excellent quality is presented in the catalog of the manufacturer Artwall.ru. Here you can find not only modular paintings, but also posters, as well as copies of paintings by famous artists on natural canvas, photo wallpapers and photo curtains. In general, everything you need for decorating interiors.

In addition, we can recommend another manufacturer of modular paintings, as well as reproductions of paintings and portraits on natural canvas. This is ProCanvas. From the two options offered by manufacturers, you can definitely choose what you need.

Sincerely, .

With the development of the means used by man to exchange information, perhaps the main modern value, the speed of its dissemination has increased thousands of times. Many design ideas, before they appear in the West or in Asia, almost instantly become the property of everyone. One of the latest generally recognized trends in the design of both public and residential spaces has become modular paintings, which are several separate canvases united by a common meaning or common image.

Such an original design of the walls gives the room a uniqueness, successfully emphasizes the artistic taste of the owners and becomes the object of attention of all visitors. How to make modular paintings with your own will be discussed later.

Just before describing the technology for obtaining such an original interior decoration, let us dwell in more detail on their types. At present, it is not at all necessary to master the skill of an artist in order to obtain an artistic canvas. It is enough to choose the picture you like on the network and print it using specialized equipment on paper, fabric or other sheet materials. After that, it remains only to cut the resulting image into the appropriate parts and fix them.

Of course, if you yourself have artistic abilities, getting ready-made modular paintings that have a common semantic content will not be difficult. It may even become quite profitable.

It should be noted that both modules made of parts of the same size and paintings that have canvases of various shapes and sizes look original in the interior.

The combination of vertical and horizontal modular paintings combined in one module is also advantageous.

Independent production of modular paintings

If you have no idea about the basics of making paintings, let's take a closer look at the process of preparing the base. In order to stretch a handwritten or printed canvas, you will need several frame structures made of wooden blocks. Artists call them stretchers. Their size determines the dimensions of the elements you use. It is worth noting that modular paintings, both self-made and industrial, do not have frames.

On sale in specialized stores you can find many different types of stretchers. As a rule, they are implemented with canvases already attached to them.

In the case of self-writing a three- or polyptych, you can use the proposed basis for your future paintings. When using printed images, the fabric from the stretcher must be carefully removed.

As a rule, the fastening of the canvas is carried out using furniture stapler brackets.

To remove the fabric, it is enough to pull it with force with your hands.

In the absence of the possibility of buying stretchers or unwillingness to spend time and money on this, you can make picture frames yourself. To do this, you need rails with a section of 50 × 20, 40 × 20.50 × 25 millimeters. After planing the sides of the blanks to smoothness, saw off parts of equal length in pairs, file the ends at an angle of 45 degrees, and connect them with glue or staples 14 millimeters long. To strengthen the corner joints from the inside, fasten plywood scarves in each corner - right-angled triangles with sides of 10 centimeters.

The next stage of DIY manufacturing is cutting and fixing paintings on stretchers. In the case of printing a picture, it is desirable to make not one common canvas, but several separate ones that have an overlapping pattern. Then, when fixing and relative positioning of the pictures, the integrity of the image will be preserved.

In the absence of the possibility of printing any image and writing pictures, there is another simple, but no less expressive way - using pieces of bright patterned fabric instead of canvas. For cutting, it is necessary to put a stretcher on the fabric and cut off a piece so that its edges go into the frame base with a margin.

After the fabric is cut, it must be secured. To do this, it is best to use a furniture or construction stapler. Lay one edge of the canvas along the long side of the stretcher and attach it with staples. Then, stretching the fabric slightly to avoid wrinkles and wrinkles, attach it to the opposite side of the base. The next stage is fastening to the short sides according to the technology described earlier.

Pay special attention to the location of the fabric in the corners of the paintings being made. Try to avoid excessive clumping, distribute the fabric evenly, partially bending it to the long and short sides of the stretcher.

In the absence of stretchers for modular paintings, their role can be played by a piece of plywood or chipboard of a rectangular shape. After sawing and edging, place the piece on the fabric and cut it out.

After that, it remains only to fix the edges of the canvas on a flat base with a stapler. As a result of all the work, you will receive an original do-it-yourself triptych, which will decorate the interior of your room.

The final touch will be the installation of paintings on the wall in the selected location. And here, use your imagination, since the relative position of the pictures in the module can be different. For fastening, ordinary small-sized furniture hinges are quite suitable. It is possible to hang stretchers with fixed canvases directly on the heads of screws protruding from the wall, screwed into plastic dowels, which are installed in holes of suitable diameter.

An example of creating modular paintings on a printed graphic basis:

Dear readers, comment on the article, ask questions, subscribe to new publications - we are interested in your opinion :)

Since ancient times, paintings have been decorating the interior. Use portraits, landscapes, still lifes. Paintings perform an aesthetic role in the interior and give it a finished look. Even in ancient Greece, paintings were valued, consisting of several parts, united by a common style of execution, unity of color and compositional structure - the so-called MODULAR paintings.

PICTURES as a work of art

In the modern interior, modular paintings and so-called posters are becoming more and more popular and fashionable. Such pictures speak of fine taste!

Modular paintings as a work of art are painted on natural canvas with acrylic or oil paints, and they also use direct printing on natural material. Then the finished picture is cut into pieces (modules) of the same or different sizes. Each module is stretched on a wooden stretcher. Parts of modular paintings are placed on the wall next to each other so that the original image is obtained. The division into modules gives the picture a special expressiveness.

I really like such stylish paintings in the interior.

Do-it-yourself modular paintings

A wide variety of paintings, including modular ones, can, of course, be bought.

For my modest interior, I often select the pictures I like on the Internet, print on a color printer and insert them into a frame. I love landscapes by contemporary artists.

More recently, social networks, I saw the album "Panel on polystyrene". This technique is very popular now in Europe.

I had an idea to create modular paintings with my own hands.

I chose a picture on the Internet with my favorite roses, copied it, divided it into parts in a graphic editor, enlarged each part to the size of a standard A4 printed sheet and printed it on a color printer.

Now you need to take pieces of foam, you can even use ceiling tiles, cut rectangles of the desired size with a sharp knife.

Glue parts of the picture on the surface of the foam with PVA glue.

Decorate the side surfaces of the foam with strips of matching paper color.

Glue a loop on the back of the foam.

That's all - the modular painting "Flowers" is ready! It remains only to choose a suitable place for her in the room, hang it on the wall and admire!

Such do-it-yourself paintings on foam can be made in different shapes and sizes, use pictures, wallpapers, photographs, pieces of cloth, knitted compositions. And instead of foam, you can take another material, such as plywood or fiberboard. Only then will the picture be somewhat thinner, but no less beautiful.

Do-it-yourself modular paintings will be a wonderful interior decoration!

Gone are the days when carpets hung on the walls in every room. Today, modular paintings are gaining more and more popularity. They add zest to the interior of any room, be it a living room or an office. The subject of modular paintings is very diverse, as well as the material and technique with which they are made.

What are modular paintings

Modular paintings look very nice, embroidered with beads, cross-stitch, or made according to the type of engraving, these can be photographs of interesting beautiful places, or paintings are painted in watercolor. There are a huge number of options for modular paintings, and the more imagination a person has, the more choice.

Modular paintings can not only be bought, but also made by hand. To get such an interesting, original decor element, a lot of effort and time will not be needed (not counting embroidery). Making modular paintings with your own hands, you will get great pleasure not only from the result, but also from the creative process.

Choosing a form and plot

I propose to try to make modular paintings, using the wallpaper as a basis in the simplest way. Photowall-paper to order by your sizes you can order. After all, they are already in themselves - one whole finished picture. After a little work and improvement, we will get wonderful modular paintings that, by the way, will ideally fit your interior.

Making the basis of the picture

So, let's get to work. First of all, we need to decide what plot should be in the picture. Will it be a night city, flowers, still life, abstraction or something else, it's up to you. When choosing a picture, consider the place where the pictures will hang, so that they fit perfectly in terms of theme and color scheme. The only thing that is not recommended is to take photo wallpapers with a portrait, because a face divided into parts somehow does not look very good. We decided on the drawing, now we need to think about what size and shape the paintings will be.

In order for modular paintings to perfectly complement your interior, you need to carefully consider not only the image, but also the design. You can use bamboo, foam plastic or wooden sticks as the basis for the picture. Frames are often made of paper, cardboard, thread, plastic or other materials.

From the tools you only need a sharp clerical knife. If you chose polystyrene for the base, then pre-apply a primer on its surface, thanks to which the photo wallpaper will hold stronger. The base is ready - you can glue the blanks cut from the photo wallpaper. Another final stage of work is the installation of our homemade painting.

How to arrange modular paintings

Blocks of modular paintings can be different in size, thickness and placed on the wall in different ways (arc, diagonal, smooth curve or steps ...). The correct arrangement of paintings can give a visual effect of a three-dimensional image.

A new trend that is becoming more popular every day is modular paintings made on linen canvas, made by galvanizing and printed on a special printer. The finished canvas is cut into pieces that differ in size and format, then mounted on frames. Such a transition from one form to another creates a 3D effect.

As they say: theory is my friend, dry, and the tree of life turns green. Enough about theory, it's time to move on to practice. Let your imagination run wild and be creative.
