The theater has three stages:

  1. The main one. The auditorium can accommodate 1800 people. The main stage usually hosts major performances (opera and ballet performances, concerts of symphonic music).

The lobby of the theater deserves special attention. It has an area of ​​about 2 thousand square meters and is distinguished by an elegant design. There is a huge chandelier under the ceiling. The floors here are made of rare marble called "crystal white". The snow-white coating is additionally decorated with images. They resemble piano keys. Similar images can be seen on stairs and columns.

"The Tsar's Bride" will be shown three times - on May 14, 15 and 16. The musical director and chief conductor of the Bolshoi Theater Tugan Sokhiev will be at the stand. The leading vocalists of the Bolshoi will perform the main parts, including Vyacheslav Pochapsky, Olga Seliverstova and Vladimir Matorin, who celebrated his 70th anniversary in early May.

About "The Tsar's Bride"

Rimsky-Korsakov wrote The Tsar's Bride in 1898. The libretto is based on the drama of the same name by Leo Mey, the plot of which tells about real events. In 1571, the merchant's daughter Martha Sobakina at the bride was chosen as the bride of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, and 15 days later she died unexpectedly - according to rumors, she was poisoned with poison.

The premiere of "The Tsar's Bride" took place on October 22, 1899 at the Mamontov Private Opera. It was first staged at the Bolshoi Theater in 1916 and then practically did not disappear from the repertoire. The current production has become the seventh in a row, but it is still adorned with sets by Fyodor Fedorovsky.

From opera to ballet

"After the show of" The Tsar's Bride "in Shanghai, the Bolshoi Theater will continue its tour in Beijing, where the ballet troupe will perform," the Bolshoi Theater press attaché said.

According to her, the ballet part of the tour will take place in Beijing from May 18 to 25 at the stage of the National Center for the Performing Arts. Lanxin Theater is the foremost theater of the first half of the 20th century and a luxurious entertainment venue in Shanghai. In 1952, the theater was renamed the Shanghai Art Theater. In 1991, the building was rebuilt, renovated and restored to its original name Lanxin.

Today the three-story theater building has the shape of a regular hexagon. The facade of the building is painted gray and white. The central windows of the second floor are arch-shaped.

Currently, the theater has 446 seats, 250 of which are located on the lower tier. It hosts concerts, circus and dance programs, theatrical performances of various genres. The theater works closely with many foreign theaters.

Shanghai Theater Center

Shanghai Theater Center is an event and concert venue.

Shanghai Theater Center was built in 1990. It is an eight-storey building with three towers, with a total floor area of ​​over 30,000 square meters.

In addition to the theater hall, there is a hotel, shops and cafes. The theater hall can accommodate a little more than one and a half thousand people.

In the period from 1990 to 1994, the theater was reconstructed. Large funds for the repair work were allocated by the industrialist Shao Yifu, after whom the theater is named. At present, the two-storey theater building, equipped with modern equipment, can accommodate about 1,000 spectators.

In the repertoire, the main place belongs to the Peking Opera, but opera troupes from all over China are frequent guests on the stage of the theater.
