What helps the wonderful image of the Iberian icon. When and what to pray to the icon of the Iberian mother of God

When difficult situations arise in life, each person hopes for help from Heaven. More often people turn to the Heavenly Queen - the great Patroness of all mankind before the Almighty. Her image in every Orthodox church is located to the left of the Royal Doors.

The Iberian icon of the Mother of God occupies a special place among the icons of the Theotokos. She is one of the most revered and famous shrines of Orthodoxy.

History of Saint Face

During the 1st Ecumenical Council, the adherents of the Aryan heresy were given firm support. Since then, peace and tranquility have come to the Orthodox Christian world. But at the beginning of the 9th century, fierce fighters against Orthodox images appeared, destroying the holy faces.

It was at that time that a pious believing widow with her teenage son lived on the territory of Nicaea (now Turkey). The woman had a fortune inherited from her late husband. With this money, the widow built a church within the walls of which an icon of the Mother of God rested. The iconoclasts, having visited the temple, decided to take away her fortune from the woman, demanding a large sum of money. Hearing a refusal, one of the attackers, out of anger, drove a sword into the Face of the Virgin.

And then a stream of real human blood flowed over the icon. The bandits were very frightened and ran out of the church, warning the widow that they would return again tomorrow for a debt.

When it got dark, mother and son took the icon of the Virgin and went to the sea. Placing the Face on the water, they saw a miracle: the icon itself stood upright and floated in this state along the waves right into the open sea. Struck by what they saw, they returned home, but being afraid of the likely re-arrival of the robbers, they could not stay within their native walls.

Appearance on Athos

The son went to Athos and accepted monasticism at the Iberian monastery. The story of how the icon itself got up on the waves and sailed into the sea, the newly-minted monk told the brethren. But soon the elders, who were at the monastery gates, noticed a bright and huge column of fire rising above the surface of the sea. The sight was wonderful and terrible at the same time.

Mother protects the hearth, protects all Orthodox Christians and intercedes for their needs before Her Son.

The original of the Holy Face of the Mother of God is kept on Athos in the male Orthodox monastery of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God.

The celebration in honor of the Iberian icon takes place several times a year: February 25, May 6, October 26, and also on the Tuesday of Easter week.

There are two icons with this name. One was revealed on Athos. This is the most famous image of the Mother of God, which is revered not only in Orthodoxy, but also in Catholicism. The icon "Goalkeeper" is also located in one of the Russian monasteries, but it has a different composition and its own history.

The history of the icon

The fertile island keeps many legends. According to one of them, the Mother of God had to leave Jerusalem when Christians began to be persecuted there. On the way to Cyprus, the Blessed Virgin stopped at Athos, which she called one of her destinies. There are several of them in total:

  • Georgia (Iveria);
  • Mount Athos;
  • Russia (Kievan Rus);
  • Diveevo (monastery founded by the Monk Seraphim of Sarov).

The Mother of God has a special relationship with each of these places. For example, a lot of miraculous icons are displayed on Athos. One of them is the Goalkeeper icon. She came to the brothers of the Iversky Monastery right from the depths of the sea in a pillar of fire. For a long time no one could get a wonderful image until a Georgian monk - now known as Gabriel Svyatorets - was called. He lived in a seclusion, ate only herbs, washed down with water. But one day the Most Pure One herself told him to return to the monastery to take on his image.

The monk did just that. After the prayer service, all the brethren went down to the shore, and Gabriel walked straight on the water, and the image moved towards him. The monks solemnly brought the shrine to the altar, but in the morning it was at the gate. So the Mother of God showed her desire to protect the monastery and its inhabitants. Since then, the Iberian icon has been called "Portaitissa", that is, "Goalkeeper".

Since that time, the image has been on Mount Athos, but there are also many miraculous copies of it. One of them is in Iveria itself (Georgia). Since the Mother of God was very sad that in one of her inheritances people still did not accept Christ, so she decided to send the Apostle Andrew there. As a blessing, she gave him her image - she washed her face, put her face to the board, miraculously left an imprint on it.

Where else are miraculous icons kept?

The icon of the Theotokos "Goalkeeper" is well known in the Diveyevo monastery. A healing spring has been beating here for many decades. It is located near the chapel in the name of the Iberian image. Old woman Alexandra dug a spring with her own hands so that the workers who built the Kazan temple for the monastery could drink water.

Here, the local population prayed during dry periods, brought babies to bathe in healing water. Already in our time, a reservoir has been equipped so that you can plunge entirely. Water helps against various diseases, as well as those who are possessed by evil spirits.

The meaning and interpretation of the icon

Each image of the Mother of God carries a common meaning - she embodies the unity of the Lord with her children, who are all Christians, regardless of gender, age, nationality. But there are special blessings specifically for Russia: for example, the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "Goalkeeper" ("Inextinguishable Candle"). It is strikingly different from the usual iconography of the Virgin Mary.

  • The Queen of Heaven is in monastic robes.
  • In her left hand she holds a rosary (an attribute of any monk), as well as a rod. This is a symbol of power, patronage, which can only be worn by bishops (higher clergy).
  • In her right hand, the Mother of God holds a candle - a symbol of unceasing prayer.

The icon was discovered at the end of the 19th century. in Uglich. A man to whom the Queen of Heaven came in a dream came to the monastery there. On her orders, he came from St. Petersburg to find an amazing image that showed up in the closet. The newcomer became completely healthy after the prayer service. In memory of this, he ordered an expensive setting for the icon, which is still in the monastery, lavishing healing.

How the Goalkeeper icon helps

For the Orthodox, the Mother of God is like a mother. They share with her any sorrows and sorrows. When a child is ill, it is necessary to find a new place of work, someone has been unjustly offended, the husband suffers from drunkenness - the icon "Goalkeeper" will help in each of these troubles. It can protect the home from enemies - it was not for nothing that the Mother of God returned her image to the monastery gates several times.

To this day, there is a wonderful icon lamp in front of the Athos icon: before the tragic events, it begins to swing. This also happened during the attacks of enemies on the monastery, but the Mother of God never allowed enemies into her monastery. Every believer has the right to count on such protection if he regularly prays and visits the temple.

According to the pious tradition, the Orthodox acquire several icons for their homes. Among the bottom, the face of the Most Holy Theotokos is obligatory, the "Goalkeeper" is well suited. You can especially in prayers ask for protection for your home, because there we keep all our property, for which we have worked for many years. Of course, the main concern of a Christian should be the achievement of the Kingdom of Heaven, but the Lord does not forbid having things, being a zealous owner. The main thing is not to get attached to earthly values, not to make objects of worship out of them.

Where is the best place to hang the Iberian Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos ("Goalkeeper")?

Based on the name, it is quite possible to place it above the doorway. This is usually done from inside the apartment to avoid theft or, even worse, desecration of the shrine. Outside, a cross can be glued to the door itself.

A good place is the shelf in the hallway, directly opposite the entrance. When leaving, you can pray in front of the icon, ask for good luck in business, cross over to your family, your dwelling. After returning, you must also cross yourself and thank the Lord for what you have kept during the day.

There is no special need to place icons near children's beds - the Lord protects them so. But this is not prohibited either. The main thing is that the place is appropriate - either a separate shelf, or a wall free of decorations and worldly images. It will be good if a child is taught from an early age to pray before going to bed - for this the icon will be very useful. The main thing is that the family should understand that the power of God comes through prayers, and not through boards.

Prayer to the Goalkeeper icon

O Most Holy Virgin, Mother of the Lord, Queen of heaven and earth! Listen to the painful sighing of our souls, look down from the height of Thy saint on us, who worship Thy most pure image with faith and love. Behold, immersed in sins and overwhelmed by sorrows, looking at Your image, as if you live with us, we offer our humble prayers. Imams are not for any other help, or another intercession, or consolation, only to You, O Mother of all who grieve and burdened! Help us, the weak, satisfy our sorrow, guide us on the right path, the erring ones, heal and save the hopeless, grant us the rest of our belly in peace and silence, grant Christian death and at the Last Judgment of Your Son, appear to us, merciful Intercessor, yes we always sing, glorify and glorify Thee, like the good Intercessor of the Christian clan, with all who have pleased God. Amen.

Over the entire period of its existence in Russia, none of the revered icons of the Mother of God has had so many miraculous healings as they have been accomplished from the Iberian icon. She always stood guard, like an ambulance to people in trouble, misfortune and disease. And today, great grace is poured out from the miraculous copies of the Iberian icon. Everyone who comes to them with faith and hope receives help and healing.

The Iberian icon is the patroness of Moscow. This is an image that has been meeting people arriving in the Russian capital for many centuries. The icon revered in Russia is a copy of an ancient image that is kept in Greece on Mount Athos, in the Iversky Monastery.

The history of the Athos icon dates back to the 9th century. When the emperor Theophilus, the iconoclast, ruled in Byzantium. The soldiers sent by him everywhere to destroy the holy icons came to a pious widow, in whose house the mentioned icon was kept. One of the soldiers struck with a sword at the bow of the Mother of God depicted in the icon. To his horror, blood began to flow from the wound. Struck by a miracle, the warrior fell to his knees with repentance and abandoned the heresy (and later accepted monasticism). The widow decided to hide the holy icon in order to save it from desecration. The pious woman let her into the sea and the icon floated upright over the waves. The son of a pious widow subsequently went to Athos, where he spent in monastic exploits. From him the Athonite monks learned about the icon, which his mother put on the water. This tradition was preserved among the elders.

Many years later, the holy icon appeared "in a pillar of fire" on a morn near the Iberian monastery. At this time, the holy Elder Gabriel lived in the Iversky Monastery. The Mother of God appeared to him in a dream and ordered him to announce to the abbots and brethren that She wanted to give them Her icon for help and intercession, commanding the elder to approach the icon on the water without fear. The Monk Gabriel walked straight on the water with faith, took the icon and carried it to the shore.

The monks brought her into the monastery and placed her on the altar. The next day, the icon was not in place. After a long search, they found it on the wall above the monastery gates and carried it to its original place. However, in the morning the icon was again above the gates. This was repeated several times. After that, a temple was built over the gates of the monastery, in which the holy icon remains to this day. By the name of the monastery, it is called Iverskaya, and by its place of stay above the gates - the Goalkeeper.

Eight centuries have passed. Archimandrite of the Iberian monastery Pachomius went to Moscow to collect offerings for the benefit of the Athonite monasteries. When he returned, the grateful Pakhomius ordered to gather all his brethren. From evening until morning the monks performed together a great prayer song, sanctified water with holy relics and poured it over the Iberian icon; then, having collected the water in a bowl, they poured it over a new cypress board. Having again collected water in a bowl, they served the Divine Liturgy, and then gave this water to the best icon painter. He mixed holy water with paints and, withstanding strict fasting, began to paint an icon. The monks, to help him, twice a week celebrated all-night vigils and Liturgies. So a new Iberian image appeared, which did not differ in any way from the original.

In Moscow, the icon was solemnly greeted by Patriarch Joseph, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich with his entire family, clergy, boyars and people. Then Tsarina Maria Ilyinichna took this icon into her chambers, and after her death the icon passed to her daughter Sophia Alekseevna, who took monastic vows at the Smolensk Novodevichy Convent. The holy icon remains there to this day.

In memory of the meeting of the Iveron Icon at the Resurrection Gate in Moscow, a chapel was built. For her, another list was written, which received the name of the Moscow one. Soon miracles began to work from him, and a handwritten book was brought up in the chapel to write them down. How much the inhabitants of Moscow and all of Russia who came to the capital revered the holy icon, could be seen from the fact that, from early morning until evening, the chapel was constantly overflowing with worshipers. In addition to general molebens, custom molebens were served almost continuously. It was hardly possible then in Moscow to find a person who, during his life, would not have resorted to prayer to the holy icon and would not have found hope and consolation in this prayer.

In July 1929, the chapel was closed and then destroyed. And in November 1994, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia consecrated the foundation stone of the chapel being restored. In 1996, work on the restoration of the chapel and the Resurrection Gate was completed and the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, written especially for this occasion, was brought to Moscow from the Iverskaya monastery on Mount Athos. The holy icon has returned to the main gates of the city, which is under the patronage of the Mother of God.

What power is in prayer ...
And if it's hard on the way,
I always asked the Lord
To give strength to go forward.
My God will always hear me
In a quiet and simple prayer,
He will send me cheerfulness from above,
He will give my soul peace.
When it's hard for me, it's lonely
When the heart is heavy
And Satan is nearby
He sends his bad thoughts,
Always addressed in prayer
To Him, Heavenly Father,
And the heart suddenly, was freed,
He wiped a tear from his face.
My friend, when there is anxiety in my soul,
Bow down before the Lord
Give your problems to God
And pray quietly in faith.
There is great power in prayer
The Lord will always understand you
Prayers don't pass by
God waits for prayers with love.

Healing prayer in front of the Iberian icon of the Mother of God

Miracles from this ancient icon are so numerous that they began to be recorded in a special book. The elderly man suffered from such severe memory loss that he did not recognize his relatives and did not understand what was being said to him. The myrrh-streaming Iberian icon and the miraculous prayer to the Mother of God cured the patient of sclerosis. A small icon placed in the car saved the driver from a terrible accident, another time the same small icon, applied to a deep cut, was able to stop a severe blood loss. Sincere prayers of the Iberian Mother of God relieve infertility, heal eye diseases, and help get rid of drunkenness.

Sincere prayer of the Iberian Mother of God

Strong prayers of the Iberian Mother of God not only heal diseases, but also help in everyday affairs. Farmers ask the Iberian icon with a miraculous prayer for soil fertility and protection of crops from fire. The blessings of the Mother of God are asked before starting any business. She also helps in family matters - it returns mutual understanding between the spouses. It should be remembered that the Mother of God is formidable towards unrepentant sinners, therefore the Orthodox prayer to the Iberian icon of the Mother of God must be sincere, and the person asking for help must observe the Christian commandments.

The text of the Orthodox prayer to the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God

Oh, Most Holy Lady, the Lady of the Theotokos, accept our unworthy prayer, and save us from the slander of evil people and from vain death, and grant us repentance before the end, be merciful to our prayer, and grant joy in the sadness of the place. And deliver us, O Lord, from all misfortune and misfortune, sorrow and sorrow and from all evil. And vouch for us, thy sinful servants, to the right hand of the article in the second coming of Thy Son, Christ our God, and heirs of us to be vindicate the kingdom of heaven and eternal life, with all the saints for the endless ages of the ages. Amen.

icon of the Mother of God "IVERSKAYA" "Goalkeeper"

February 25 (February 12 old style), October 26 (13), Tuesday of Bright Week

Description of the icon of the Mother of God "IVERSKAYA" "Goalkeeper":
In the 9th century, at the time of the heresy of iconoclasm, near the city of Nicaea (modern Turkey) lived a pious widow with her son, in whose house there was a miraculous icon of the Mother of God. When the soldiers, sent to seek out and destroy the holy icons of the Mother of God, entered the widow's house, she, hoping to preserve the shrine, begged the soldiers to leave the icon of the Mother of God until morning, promising them a reward for this.

The greedy soldiers agreed, but at the same time, one of them, leaving, struck with a spear in the face of the Mother of God, and immediately blood flowed from the pierced icon of the Mother of God. The defeated soldiers left. Wanting to save the miraculous icon of the Mother of God from desecration, the widow took it to the sea and lowered it into the water. At the same time, the icon of the Mother of God did not lay down on the water, but, standing straight, moved along the sea.

Since then, about two centuries have passed. Once the monks of the Iberian monastery on Mount Athos saw on the sea a pillar of fire reaching to the very sky, at the base of which there was an icon of the Mother of God standing on the water. After the prayer service, the elder of the monastery Gabriel, at the command of the Mother of God who appeared to him in a dream, walked on the water like dry land, took the icon of the Mother of God and placed it in the church.

But the next day, the icon of the Mother of God was not found in the place where it was placed, but it was found above the monastery gates. The image was taken to its original place, but in the morning it was again above the gate. This was repeated several times. Finally, the Most Holy Theotokos again appeared to the Monk Gabriel, saying that she did not want to be kept by the monks, but wanted to be their Guardian herself.

The monks built a church at the gate, in which the miraculous icon of the Mother of God remains to this day. By the name of the monastery, this icon of the Mother of God is called the Iverskaya, and by the place of her stay above the monastery gates - the "Goalkeeper" or "Portaitissa".

The history of the Iversky Monastery has preserved many cases of the miraculous help of the Mother of God through Her miraculous icon: the deliverance of the monastery from the barbarians, the miraculous replenishment of food supplies, the healing of the sick.

The miraculous icon of the Mother of God was well known in Russia. During the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich (1645-1676), Archimandrite Nikon of the Novospassky Monastery (later the Patriarch of All Russia) asked the Archimandrite of the Iversky Athos Monastery Pachomius to send a list (copy) of the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.

The priest Iamblich Romanov was blessed to write an icon of the Mother of God for Russia. Before that, all the brethren of the monastery (three hundred and sixty-five monks) performed a great prayer chant from evening until dawn and consecrated the water with the holy relics. Holy water was poured over the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "Portaitissa" and again they poured over a new board prepared for writing the icon, made of cypress wood. After the Divine Liturgy, the holy water and particles of holy relics were handed over to the icon painter, who, mixing them with paints, proceeded to paint the icon of the Mother of God.

On October 13, 1648, the icon was brought to Moscow and solemnly greeted at the Resurrection Gate by a multitude of people, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and Patriarch Joseph.

When Nikon ascended the patriarchal throne, he conceived on one of the islands of Lake Valdai to build a monastery in honor of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God, in the likeness of the Athos Iversky monastery. Skilled painters were sent to Athos to paint a new copy of the ancient Iberian Icon of the Mother of God and draw up an accurate plan of the Iberian monastery. Through the efforts of Russian architects, the Iversky Bogoroditsky Svyatoozersky Monastery was founded in Valdai, to which in 1656 the newly painted Iveron Icon of the Mother of God was brought from Athos.

Other revered copies of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God, installed in the Iberian chapel at the Resurrection Gate, were also written on Mount Athos. Thousands of Orthodox Christians from all over Russia came to worship the miraculous image (one icon never left its place, while the other was taken to the houses of Moscow in a special carriage). Arriving in Moscow, the Russian sovereigns, before entering the Kremlin, always prayed in the chapel at the Resurrection Gate in front of the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.

In 1929, the chapel was destroyed, the icon of the Mother of God disappeared, while the mobile icon survived and is now in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki. Today, by the grace of God, the chapel has been recreated, and Orthodox Russia on October 26, 1995 again met the image of the Iveron Mother of God, painted on the Holy Mount Athos.

There are icons of the Iberian Mother of God with a wound on the right cheek of the Mother of God, exuding drops of blood, and without a wound.

At the end of the twentieth century, the myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos from Montreal became famous, the guardian of which was the Orthodox Spaniard Joseph Muñoz Cortez. Unfortunately, in October 1997, after the villainous murder of Joseph, the miraculous image disappeared without a trace.

The celebration of the miraculous Iveron Icon of the Mother of God in the Russian Orthodox Church takes place three times: February 12/25 (this day is associated with the transfer of the list of the Iberian icon to the monastery on Valdai), October 13/26 (the day of the solemn meeting of the Athos shrine in Moscow in 1648) and on Tuesday Bright Week (it was on the Tuesday of Bright Week, according to legend, that the icon appeared on the waters in front of the monks of the Iversky Monastery).

From historical sources it is known that in the 10th century in the Iversky Monastery on Mount Athos, the miraculous Iversky Monastery appeared, whose significance in the life of the monastic monastery is enormous. For many centuries, she became a treasure and talisman, a protector from enemies and an assistant in all endeavors. The sacred image also has other names - Gatekeeper, Goalkeeper, Portaitissa.

There is a distinctive feature that is easily recognizable. The photo of the shrine allows you to examine the wound on the right cheek of the Virgin and a trickle of blood.

Icons are meant for people to pray and ask for intercession and help. The saints depicted on them are direct mediators between man and God. The images of Christ and the Mother of God are especially revered. There are many faces of the Virgin Mary, and they all have their own names and purposes.

And yet, among them, the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God stands out, the meaning of which is keeping at home, protecting from enemies, protecting women, healing bodily and mental ailments. The history of this shrine begins from the time of Christ. It is believed that it was written by the Apostle Luke, the first icon painter to capture the mournful face of the Mother of God with the Child Christ in her arms.

The Wonderful History of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God

According to Christian legends, a widow lived in Asia Minor, not far from the city of Nicaea. The woman was pious and believing, she instilled the Christian faith in her only son. It was kept in her house. In those days, the country was ruled by the emperor Theophilus, who persecuted Christians in every possible way.

One day the imperial overseers came to the house. One of them noticed the image and pierced it with a spear. When the iconoclast saw blood flowing from the right cheek of the Mother of God, he was horrified, fell on his knees and asked for forgiveness. Having believed, he decided to save the miraculous icon and advised the woman how to do it.

After praying, the widow came to the seashore at night and sent the shrine through the waves. She swam and after a while nailed to the Iversky Monastery on the Holy Mountain. At night, the monks noticed an unusual glow in the sea, from which a pillar of fire ascended to the sky. This miracle continued for several days. Finally, the monks decided to find out what it was, and swam closer by boat.

The appearance of the icon in the Iversky monastery

Seeing the wonderful icon, the monks tried to get it out of the water, but they failed. She did not give in to his hands, but floated away further and further, as soon as they approached. Returning to the monastery with nothing, the monks gathered in the church and began to pray to the Mother of God for help in finding her image.

At night, the Mother of God appeared in a dream to Elder Gabriel and told him that she wanted to bestow her image on the Iberian monastery. In the morning, the monks made a religious procession to the seashore. Gabriel entered the water and took on his face with reverence. A wonderful image with honors and prayers was placed in the monastery church.

Further miracles happened to the icon. In the morning she found herself on the wall above the gates of the Iberian monastery. The monks placed her in the temple several times, but the next day they found her again above the gate. The Mother of God again dreamed of the monk Gabriel and revealed her will to him: she does not want to be guarded, but will herself be the keeper and protector of the monastery, and while her image is in the monastery, the grace and mercy of Christ will not deplete.

The monks built a gate church in honor of the Mother of God and placed a miraculous image there. Many years later, the widow's son came to the monastery and recognized his family heirloom. For more than ten centuries, the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God has been here, the significance of which is very great, because it is the keeper of the monastery. The image got its name from the name of the monastery, where it is located to this day. A silver setting was made for the icon. Only the faces of the Virgin and the Child remained open. There are many known cases when the Mother of God came to the aid of the monks, delivering them from hunger, disease and from numerous barbarians who tried to seize the holy monastery.

Iversky monastery

The Iversky Monastery is one of 20 holy monasteries located on Mount Athos, located on the peninsula of the same name in Greece. It was founded by Georgians, and the Monk Gabriel was also Georgian by nationality.

The name has Georgian roots, according to the ancient name of their country (Iberia). It is now a Greek monastery. The Greeks call him Ibiron, and Portaitissa is the name for the holy image of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God. The meaning of this word sounds in Russian like "Gatekeeper".

Currently, about 30 novices and monks live here. Twice a year, on solemn dates (the day of the Assumption of the Virgin and on the second day after Easter), processions are organized with the removal of the main shrine of Iviron from the monastery (litany). A procession of the cross takes place around the monastery, and then the procession goes to that place on the seashore, where the miraculous icon appeared to the monastic brethren.

It is striking that the holy image can be carried by any of the male spectators present (women are not allowed into the monastery). Portaitissa is carried out in any weather, and nothing happens to her. It is not an invaluable rarity that can only be viewed from a distance. The Greeks regard the miraculous image as a shrine, and not as a museum piece.

Iberian Icon of the Mother of God. Significance in Russian history

Lists (copies) of a wonderful icon, the first of which were delivered to Russia during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, were especially revered in Russia. He met the relics from Athos in Moscow, surrounded by a large crowd of Orthodox Christians.

One of the lists was sent to Valdai, where the Iversky Monastery was founded. The second was placed above the Moscow Resurrection Gate, through which all the guests and the tsars entered the city. There was a ritual: when setting off on a campaign or returning from it, the royal persons necessarily went to worship the Mother of God, asking her for protection and patronage.

The common people had free access to the Resurrection Gate, and the Goalkeeper became one of the most revered icons, the patron of Muscovites. Another list was taken to the homes of the sick who themselves could not come to pray. After the October revolutionary upheavals, the chapel was destroyed.

In 1994, a new chapel was laid at the Resurrection Gate, and a new copy of the Iberian icon that arrived from Athos is now kept in it.

Anyone who deeply believes finds protection and consolation with the miraculous Iveron Mother of God.
