"Catch-up" is a game strategy in which the size of each subsequent bet depends on the result achieved by the previous bets. Each new bet must at least cover the loss of the previous bets on the same chain and bring profit from above.

At the heart of the catch-up is the 2.0-odd even odds casino system known as the Martingale strategy.

How the catch-up strategy works

The game begins with the selection of the amount of the nominal bet and the selection of the event for the catch-up. Further, after each loss, the player must increase the bet so that in case of a win, he can recoup all previous losses in this series and receive income.

With a catch-up coefficient of 2.0 (classic Martingale) and the amount of the first bet of 10 units, the chain of amounts for bets will look like this: 10 → 20 → 40 → 80 → 160 → 320 → 640 → 1280, etc. If all the conditions, coefficient and required amounts are met, the player's profit in case of winning will be equal to the initial value.

This chain of sums works at a coefficient of 2.0. It is most convenient to calculate the required amounts with various coefficients using the following formula:

S = X + Y / K-1

S - the amount of the required bet.

X - the amount of potential winnings from the first bet.

Y is the sum of all previous losses.

K is the coefficient of the upcoming event.

For example, we have the second iteration (i.e. the second bet after the first one has lost). We placed the first bet of 10 units with odds of 1.85. This means that we expected to win 8.5 units clean (X). The size of the loss at this stage is only 10 units (Y) (the first losing bet), the coefficient of the upcoming event, for example, is equal to 1.7 (K).

Let's put the numbers in the formula:

S = X + Y / K-1 = 8.5 + 10 / 1.7-1 = 26.42 units. That is, in order to fulfill all the conditions of the expected profitability, 26.42 units are needed for the next bet.

Checking: 26.42 * 1.7 = 44.92 units. the bookmaker will pay when the second bet is won. We subtract our costs from this amount (the size of the second rate itself, as well as the size of the first rate): 44.92 units. - 26.42 units - 10 units. = 8.5 units net profit as originally planned.

As you can see, the formula gave us a clear bet amount. Most importantly, do not forget to add up all losses (Y) in order to get the correct calculation.

After winning, the strategy provides for a return to the original nominal rate.

When the catch-up strategy is applied

The most popular catch-up object is totals. The principle of the casino is even / odd or red / black, the only thing is that the coefficient is not always equal to 2.0.

Also, many dogon lovers like to use large coefficients. The probability of passing the rate there is somewhat lower, but a high coefficient allows either claiming a large profit, or applying a more lenient financial progression, extending the possibility of catching up by several iterations. Most often, a draw "catches up", bets on penalties and penalties in football are also popular.

If we talk about sports, then most often catching up is appropriate in football, if only because there are usually large limits that allow you to operate the necessary financial space. American leagues and tennis are also popular. They practice catching up against a particular favorite tennis player if they think that he should lose in the near future. High odds for such an outcome allow you to stay in the game for a long time, but in no way guarantee overall success.

Dogon can be used not only in betting on a specific team, athlete, or tournament. You can “catch up” with your own failures, increasing the rate each time, based on the coefficient, until the series of defeats is interrupted. It is also possible to catch up with a capper or a public expert who makes predictions if you think you have enough information for this. You have to understand that by following the advice of even a strong capper you can end up in an unpleasant losing streak. It is enough to look at their statistics, where for every thousand made bets you can find at least one streak of 8-10 losses, which can become critical for your bank.

Pros of the catch-up strategy

Dogon is quite popular in the gaming environment largely due to the fact that it allows you to count on a balance plus, even if there are more total losing bets than winning ones. Indeed, if your series does not drag on and you manage to keep each new catch up within 5-7 iterations, then your bank will grow.

Let's look at an example in real games.

Let's take Salavat Yulaev from the KHL at the beginning of the 2016/2017 season. After 5 games, the team had 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats from the giants CSKA and SKA. “SYU” started a four-legged home series, from which it was worth expecting victories, at least one - this is enough to try to “catch up” from the first game.

At the 4th iteration, our bet won, and we received a payout of 183.89 units. Subtract all the bet amounts (10 + 15.45 + 46.36 + 105.08) and get 7 units of net profit, which we expected to receive at the first bet. Thus, we managed to earn 3.8% of the turnover on this catch-up.

Cons of the catch-up strategy

It is important to understand that sooner or later you will find yourself on a series that will require significantly more iterations than originally planned, which can lead to financial ruin.

Another disadvantage of the system is that if your catch-up chain is delayed, then you are forced to operate with large amounts in order to win a small denomination.

It is also worth considering the psychological component, when after each defeat you need to increase the rate and operate with decent funds. Your actions will be under pressure, and in such a situation, it is easier to make a mistake.

Practice shows that this is, in principle, impossible, because such a strategy is fraught with enough risks.

Consider the KHL example from the start of the 2016/2017 season.

Severstal did a bit of work in the transfer market during the offseason. It was quite reasonable to expect a decent start. One could skip the opening game against Salavat Yulaev, which they lost, and start “catching up” with a series of home games - there were as many as five of them.

Football strategy, even-odd with catch-up

The bookmaker offers to bet on the fact that the match will end in total with an even number of goals (for example, 1: 1, 2: 2 or 3: 1), or an odd number (1: 2, 0: 1, 4: 1). Usually bookmakers set equal odds for “even-odd”, which vary between 1.9-2.0.

If you take advantage of the catch-up, the chances of success will skyrocket. You just need to find a football club, which would have a series, for example, of several "odds" and bet on "even", doubling the bet on loss.

At first glance, playing this strategy is not particularly difficult, but who knows how long an “odd” series of one of the teams can drag on. Theoretically, someday your bet will win if you don't run out of money or the bookmaker cuts the limit.

But sometimes unpleasant incidents happen. Personally, I saw with my own eyes how one team played a series of seventeen (!!!) "even" matches in a row. Therefore, before you start betting, carefully analyze everything and weigh the pros and cons.

Double catch up strategy (double catch up)

"Double catch-up" or, as it is also called "double-dogon" or "catch-up on totals", differs from the usual one in that it involves betting with alternating the outcome of an event on the diametrically opposite one. Let's break it down point by point.

1. Suppose you noticed that one of the teams played a series of several matches for "total over" (TB, TB, TB, TB, TB). So your bet is on “total less”.
2. You are lucky and the very first bet brings you profit (TB, TB, TB, TB, TB, TM). If the bet was lost, then you would have to double the bet until the result you want plays.
3. Now you should use the second part of the strategy, betting on “total over” (TB, TB, TB, TB, TB, TM, TB) and also double the amount of the bet until you win.

Using the "soft catch" strategy, you can play with almost any odds, which greatly increases your chances of winning.

Basketball catch-up strategy

According to statistics, one of the four quarters of the fight between the favorite and the underdog ends with the victory of the latter. That is why, by increasing the amount of the bet, you can easily catch the desired outcome. If the favorite wins in all four segments of the match, then it is necessary to continue "catching up" with him in the next fight until the victorious end.

Odds for outsiders are usually pretty high. They often exceed 2.0. If the coefficient is less, then it is necessary to calculate the amount of the bet using the formula from the previous paragraph.

Remember that a series of failures can completely deprive you of funds, so your main allies will be sober calculation and careful analysis.

Tennis catch-up strategy

Everyone knows that a tennis match consists of sets that consist of games. Each rally won by the referees is estimated at fifteen points. For a successful victory in a set, you need to score 15, then 30 and 40 points, after the next winning rally, points are not added, and the tennis player (tennis player) is awarded a victory in the set.

Bets on this strategy must be made live. As a bet, we will take the score during the match 15:15.

Why do we take this account as a basis? Because, according to statistics, it is most often found in tennis. Usually the odds for this event vary around 2.0.

For such a rate, it is necessary to choose teams that do not differ in high performance. Even if none of the periods ends in a draw, you should continue to catch up with the team in the next match.

It seems that there is nothing easier than playing this strategy. You just need to double the pot and wait for the bet to work. However, this is not the case.

As you can see from the examples at the beginning of the article, starting from 100 rubles, our fifth rate was already 1600 rubles. 7 bet would be 6400 rubles. Moreover, the total turnover would have already amounted to 12,700 rubles, so a bank of 10,000 rubles would clearly not be enough, even if the sum of your first bet is only 100 rubles.

A significant disadvantage of this strategy is that it is necessary to constantly increase the amount of the bet. So you can quickly reach the maximum bet limit and the bookmaker simply will not allow you to complete the cycle by cutting the limits.

Anyone who decides to engage in sports betting sooner or later understands that you cannot place bets at random and you need to develop a clear financial strategy. After all, you can be in the black, guessing 40% of the results, or you can lose large sums of money with a passability of 70%. Which strategy should you choose? We will talk about this today.

First and foremost, you should already have a working betting strategy, for example, on the fact that both teams will score, totals or handicaps. No financial strategy will make a person who bets on odds of 1.4 and wins only 40% of the time as a successful capper. Their main task is to prevent the loss of the entire bank, to distribute the wagering requirement for several subsequent ones, to take into account the odds and the probability of an event, that is, to get the maximum efficiency from an already operating system. And now we will talk about the most common of them.

• Dogon or Martingale, call it what you want. The most common financial strategy in sports betting and beyond. Its essence is very simple - we try to win back each loss by increasing subsequent rates until the entire bank ends. On a short distance, it can bring a decent profit, but subsequently leads to bankruptcy. Sooner or later you will catch a black streak of 6-12 losses in a row and the dream of a trip to the sea in a white Cadillac, which seemed so close, will sink into oblivion. There are several varieties of it, and only two of them can actually be used:
• A) Classic dogon. Everything is banal and simple, we win back each loss with the next bet, if it loses, we also increase the next one and so on to the winning one. That is, with a coefficient of 2, your bet will be 100 (conventional units), 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, and so on, until you run out of funds. Even in a day of use, you can double the initial bank, but you can just as well lose it. Not recommended for use.
• B) Double Dogon. The essence is the same, but the bets are placed not on the same event, but in turn - on the opposite ones. For example, it looks like this: you bet on total-less before winning, and after winning, you start betting on total-more, then again - on total-less, and so on all the time. But it so happens that the team issues a long streak, and you lose everything.
• V) Anti-dogon. More efficient than its predecessors. In this case, we increase the bet amount for each win and decrease for each loss. In such a situation, the risk of losing the entire bank is much reduced, but the profit will not be so big, because the series ends sooner or later.
• G) Progressive catch-up. The principle of operation is based on a mathematical progression, that is, at the first bet your winnings should be $ 10, after the second - $ 20, after the third $ 30. etc. Thus, after each bet your winnings should increase by $ 10. Everything here is based on the choice of teams (totals are the best) and your bank. But over a long distance, it is again possible to drain the deposit.
• D) Catch up on compensation. I have not personally tested it, but it has the right to life. The bottom line is playing for totals and using "your margin". • E) Soft catch up. The basis is the same as in the previous ones, but we all win back not for one bet, but for several. In order to be in the black, it is enough for us to win more than 50% of the time with odds equal to or greater than 1.5. Withstands a drawdown of up to 11 losses in a row and can also be combined with almost any game strategy. For me, it is the best variety of all.
• D'Alembert. Like many other sports betting strategies, this strategy was developed for playing in a casino, but it is still popular in our case. It is, of course, less popular than Dogon, but on the other hand, the risks are much less here. In its original variation, D'Alembert implies that when making bets you should do the following: every time you lose, increase the size of the bet by 1 (one) unit; and when you win, you decrease it by 1 (one) unit. The size of 1 (one) unit you determine for yourself, it can be 10 cu. and $ 100, the main thing here is not to change the selected amount later during the game. I have not personally tested it, but it requires serial wins, so you need to use it very carefully.
• Bank interest... Its essence is as follows: you define a certain amount for the bets, and each time you put a certain - a fixed percentage of your amount, more precisely - of its remainder. For example, you have allocated $ 100 for bets. and decided to bet 25% each time. Having lost the first time, your balance will be $ 75, which means that the next bet should be 25% of this amount, that is, $ 18.75. etc. For me, the goal of this strategy is not to drain the entire bank, but not to make a profit, so I would not recommend it.
• Kelly criterion- the strategy is fully based on the quality of the assessment of the probability of a particular event. Let's take an example, your cash (bank): $ 10,000. odds per event: 5.00, and your forecast for this event: 0.25 (25%). As a result, we have: (0.25 * 5.00 - 1) / (5.00 - 1) = 0.0625. It turns out that you have to bet on this event: 10,000 USD. * 0.0625 = 625 c.u. The main advantage of the strategy is that if your bank decreases, you will lose an order of magnitude less money. If your bet is on average 10% of the pot amount, then even if you lose 6 (six) times in a row, you will have 48% of the original pot amount. And if you determine the probability of events at least 10% more accurately than the bookmakers, the probability of losing bets with odds. 2.0 ten times in a row is only 0.033%. But this strategy does not imply quick profits and is not designed for beginners in the field of betting.
• Next comes flat, the simplest and best financial strategy. It's simple - we define for ourselves a fixed% of the initial pot, a range of coefficients and go to bet. It completely depends on the quality of the player's predictions and requires odds of at least 1.7. You can also play with a progressive bank (Miller's financial management), i.e. for example, after increasing the initial bank by 25%, we increase the bet amount by the same 25%.
• Danish system... I mention it purely for show, because it represents the delusion of a madman, the point is to increase both the amount of the bet and the coefficient of subsequent bets in case of losses.
• Oscar Grind... Similarly, the principle of operation is concluded in 6 rules, if you are interested, you can find more detailed information on the Internet. I don’t use it and I don’t recommend it.
• Fixed profit... This strategy is similar to Flat, but instead of the bet amount, the winning amount is fixed. It turns out that you can work with different coefficients, but your profit should always be the same amount when you win. In it, the bet (Bet) is directly proportional to the expected level of return from the bet (Win) and inversely proportional to the odds on which the bet is made. The strategy does not require the creation of artificial ranges of work, as in the "Flat" strategy. Since each bet is equal: Bet = Win / (K-1). This formula shows us the possibility of using the strategy at any coefficients. In this strategy, it is necessary to artificially set the level of income (the same "fixed profit"). A fairly safe level is considered profitability in the range of 1/30 - 1/20 (3% - 5%) of the total working bank. However, in each specific case, the level of profitability may require a change.
• Fibonacci series... It is easy to guess that this strategy is based on the use of a series of Fibonacci numbers. The row of numbers represents the following sequence: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21…. That is, each subsequent number is equal to the sum of the previous ones. The strategy itself is as follows: we place a bet in the amount of $ 1. (for example, $ 1). In case of winning, we end the series and, if desired, start a new one. In case of a loss, the next bet is placed on a row of numbers - 1,2,3,5,8…. cu before winning. It is mathematically proven that this strategy will give a plus when betting on odds from 2.62. In this case, it would be wise to play with express trains. The strategy is progressive and again, in most cases, leads to a drain on the deposit.

Personally, for example, I combine Miller and soft catch-up, which gives its results.

3. The third event is to choose the victory of Real with a handicap of -1.5 against Ajax for 2.15. We are already betting $ 80. The Spanish team beat the Dutch 3: 0. The bet passes, the winnings are $ 172.

Using the soft catch-up strategy, some calculations should be performed to determine the optimal bet amount:

S = (W + Sn) / (K-1), where:

K is the coefficient;

Sn - the amount lost since the beginning of the use of the catch-up;

W is the desired winning amount.

For example, let's choose the victory of Chelsea over Aston Villa, for which the bookmaker gives the odds 1.8. From the beginning of the game on the catch-up, $ 45 was lost. The desired winning amount is $ 70. We make a calculation:

S = (70 + 45) / (1.8 - 1) = 143.75 $

Thus, we bet this amount, and if Chelsea wins, the winnings will be $ 70. If the London team does not win, calculate the next bet amount.

Soft catch-up is clearly more reliable than the classic... Since the bets are made at lower odds, so there will be fewer iterations (catching up with doubling rates). Although we will not hide the fact that you can get into an unsuccessful streak even with small odds.
