Calculation of the size of clothes online. Men's suits, coats and jackets. Online calculator - calculating the size of women's clothing

Have you noticed that in both men and women different approach to the choice of clothes? Men do not like shopping terribly, while for a woman every such trip is an important event that can cheer up.

It is not for nothing that psychologists talk about new form addictions: shopaholics and life is not sweet if they do not manage to plunge into the world of fashion at least from time to time in search of stylish clothes. Therefore, it is very important to know how to determine the size of clothes for a woman.

Here are some inch calculations for US and Australian sizes. Shirt dresses are sized based on a combination of neck width and sleeve width. To find your neck size, you must measure your neck circumference by adding half an inch and then round to the top or top half. For example, if the figure was 17.7 inches, we add 0.5 inches and get 18.2, and then round to 18, over-rounding is done to prevent the collar from getting too tight.

Measuring sleeves can be difficult if done by yourself and can be helped by someone. The sleeve is measured from the back of the neck to the wrist, passing over the shoulder with a seam pattern. The arm is usually bent, so it may be helpful to place your arm around your waist or waist. To get a comfortable length, you usually add one inch to the measurement, which is then rounded to the full integer. For example, if the resulting measure is 32.8 inches, it will add 1 inch and we have 33.8 inches, and then it will be rounded to the next, resulting in a final number of 34 inches.

However, for those women who do not suffer from this addiction, the purchase of new clothes is also very important. Many companies have a specific dress code, but even in strict business suit a woman can look very feminine and stylish, if, of course, he suits her and sits well.

The popular phrase "The main thing is that the suit is sitting" is completely true. Even the most chic suit or dress from a fashionable designer will not adorn a woman if it is not chosen to fit, if the darts or pockets are not in place, or if the suit / dress is too tight or, on the contrary, hangs on the figure, making it baggy.

While American measurements are in inches, Italian, French and Japanese are the approximate equivalent in centimeters. Trousers were men's clothing and later women's clothing for hundreds of years. At the dawn of history, there was no need to wear trousers, for which men mostly wore panties or skirts. When he started skating, there was a need for clothing that protected objects and at the same time was comfortable to wear during the trip, so his pants were invented. They had different shapes: from pantyhose, very wide ruffled skirts, similar to the skirts worn in Japan, to leather pants worn by members of the "leather" subculture.

The first condition for the "suit to fit" is to choose the right size, and in order to find out your size, you need to take measurements correctly.

This is especially true in connection with the expansion of Internet commerce. When buying from online stores, carefully read the labeling tables provided by the manufacturer, since sometimes the parameters indicated in them may differ slightly from the generally accepted ones.

Some are even completely without pants. Trouser or pant size is based on two measurements: waist and leg measurements, from groin to ankle, where the pants should be - about five inches from the ground. If the legs are bent during the measurement, the result may be inaccurate, so it is recommended that you ask a friend for help. Both of these measures are rounded to the next. Alternatively, you can get the measure out of a pair of pants that fit comfortably.

The range of sizes for trousers, jackets and shirts often varies from country to country. For example, while pants are measured by the waist and length scale, it can be difficult for Europeans and Americans overseas to find the right size pants due to their larger hip circumference. For those traveling to Japan, it is often difficult to find pants with a suitable cut, and difficult to find long enough.

Calculator for determining the size of women's clothing and underwear

Hip girth:

Bust (cm)... The measuring tape should run horizontally (that is, parallel to the floor) along the shoulder blades, armpits and along the most prominent points of the chest

Dresses and shirts are generally available in large sizes, and there are specialty stores for tall men and large sizes... However, the proportions between shoulder width, sleeve length and bust measurement are often different from American or European proportions. For this reason, shirts and dresses often have sleeves that are too short, the sleeve is too narrow, or the circumference of the chest is too wide, which makes shirts and clothes look like an irregular, too tight or oversized fit. There may also be a too narrow shoulder problem.

In Japan, this is often not only a problem for foreigners, but also for the tallest Japanese. You can find large hand gloves in this country, although the selection is usually limited. For example, in Japan it can be difficult to find special items such as large gardening gloves, probably because there is less demand for larger sizes for items traditionally associated with women's activities.

Hip girth (cm)... A measuring tape runs along the most convex points of the buttocks, and in front of it is slightly lifted on the stomach.

How to correctly determine the size of clothes and take measurements

To determine your size, take measurements from your chest, waist and hips. This will require a measuring tape and an assistant.

After stripping to your underwear, stand up straight and try not to slouch. All measurements are made by the "assistant".

Underwear, socks, swimwear and accessories

Intimate measurements are based on your waist size, but it is best to add half an inch to the actual size and then the entire length to ensure a suitable fit. These sizes vary from brand to brand. Below are approximate US sizes for circumference ranges.

These sizes vary around the world. Some undergarments are warranted due to the elastic material they are made like elastane. For genuine or non-stretch underwear, it's always best to buy another size if you have any doubts.

  • ... The measuring tape should run horizontally (that is, parallel to the floor) along the shoulder blades, armpits and along the most prominent points of the chest. The result should be halved. The final figure (half-bust) and means your size by Russian system... If the number is odd, you need to round it to even (for example, there is no size 45 for clothes - there are 44 or 46; but it is better to choose size 46 so that the clothes do not fit too tightly around the figure).
  • Waist circumference ... The measuring tape should run along the narrowest part of the body, and not where the belt of the skirt or trousers is located, which is often lowered. When measuring, do not try to suck in your belly, otherwise the clothes will not fit.
  • Hip girth ... Here, the nature of the measurement changes somewhat: the centimeter tape runs along the most convex points of the buttocks, and in front it is slightly lifted on the stomach. This is especially important when measuring overweight women... The resulting figure is also halved to get an even value.
  • The length of the sleeve ... This measurement is especially important when purchasing an upper, especially winter clothes when too long a sleeve is problematic to shorten. In this case, the arm should be slightly bent at the elbow. Measurement is taken from the place where the arm meets the shoulder; A tape measure runs down the back of your hand through your elbow to the wrist bone.

Often countries that have smaller clothing sizes tend to have smaller sizes even for underwear, even if it always depends on the manufacturer. Men's suits may have numerical dimensions, but numbers vary by manufacturer. As with all garments, it is necessary to check the size charts provided by the manufacturer and measure the waist carefully. The concept of what is accepted as a swimsuit varies from country to nation. For example, short, short-sleeved shorts, known as the "speedometer", are usually only accepted in swimming competitions in North America while they are considered suitable in other countries such as Japan and the countries of the former Soviet Union.

Not all measurements correspond to the classic "90-60-90". The types of figures in women are different, and one of the defining parameters is fullness.

Depending on the difference between the girth of the hips and chest (full, not half volume is taken), four standard groups are distinguished:

  • 1st - the difference is 4 cm;
  • 2nd - 8 cm;
  • 3rd - 12 cm;
  • 4th - 16 cm.

For representatives of the 3rd and 4th groups, it is better to purchase “unpaired” suits, that is, the lower part should be larger than the upper one, only in this case they will visually look good on the figure.

On some American beaches, such as Miami, it is generally accepted that they wear less conservative clothing such as thongs. American socks are sized for feet in inches. They are usually given at intervals, for example 9-11 means the socks are suitable for people with long legs from 9 to 11 inches. This is the most common measure for socks.

The Asian shoe measurement system uses the metric system. It is very common in Japan, China, and Korea. The numbering is equivalent to men and women. Continental Europe uses French points as the unit of measurement. The numbering for men and women is the same in this system, and each size increases by 1 point.

You should also measure your height so that all the details of the new clothes are in the right places, especially the waist - in its proper place.

Size ranges of Russian and foreign manufacturers

It is naturally impossible to determine the size of clothes for a woman only by weight and height, and therefore the above measurements are required.

UK sizes start at 12, which is the equivalent of 12 inches in length. From this measure, it increases or decreases by half the barleycorn. US sizes are smaller than UK sizes; the two measuring systems are simply moved one dimension. For example, the 13th US size is equivalent to the English size 12. In the English system, the size of women is increased by 1 compared to men.

For example, a woman's 10-year rate is 9 for a man. The International Standard is a dimension used in the armies of many countries as it offers more exact way measuring feet in length and width. You can also use a centimeter. This system is also used for ski boots.

If you ordered new clothes in the atelier, the measurements would be much larger, but for the purchase of clothes in the store and on the Internet, this is usually enough.

But here another problem arises: Russian and foreign manufacturers have different size ranges. The correspondence table and calculator, which are in this article, will help determine the size and understand them.

More about men's clothing and footwear sizes

General information

Most of the people on the planet wear clothes and, according to the latest research, they have worn them for at least the last 100,000 years. There are clothes designed only for men or only for women, but there are also clothes that can be worn by both. This style of clothing is called unisex. More feminine men's clothing periodically comes into fashion and alternates with less elegant. The first is usually dominated by smooth lines, bright shades, flowing fabrics. In the second, on the contrary, there are more clear straight lines and angles and it emphasizes more male figure such as broad shoulders. From the fourteenth to the sixteenth century, the codpiece (pictured) was in fashion - an element of clothing that first covered, and then emphasized the genitals. It was made in the form of a fastening bag on the trousers. There were ciphers made of fabric, leather, and even metal, especially on knightly armor. This unusual accessory is still worn by representatives of some subcultures, for example, Western rock musicians, or communities of fans of leather clothing and accessories. Accessories similar to cogs exist not only in western culture... For example, indigenous peoples from a number of tribes in New Guinea and Vanuatu wear genital sheaths, or phallocrypts, called kotecs and nambas, respectively. The male ballet bandage, on the other hand, is designed to smooth and hide the shape of the genitals. Dancers wear them under the jumpsuit for maximum support and protection during the dance.

Some clothing, such as skirts and dresses, is usually intended for women, but in some countries and cultures, it is also worn by men. Often it is an element national costume such as Scottish kilts, Greek fustanella, oriental tunic shirts, and sarongs in South-East Asia... Men's skirts are also popular in some subcultures, such as the Goths, as well as fans of glam rock and Japanese rock music and visual kei fashion.

Clothing began to be sewn according to the figure relatively recently. At first, the clothes were looser and they were tied with a belt so that they fit more tightly to the figure. This is how the togas were arranged in Ancient Rome... IN Medieval Europe and in Ancient Rus men, especially the poor, also wore loose clothing, for example, wide trousers tied at the waist with a belt, and a wide long shirt, also usually with a belt, so that it would not interfere during work. In many countries, such clothing was popular until the nineteenth century, while women's clothing became more tight-fitting, especially in the area of the bodice and sleeves. Since men's clothing was wide, the dimensions did not have the same size. of great importance as in women's clothing.

For a long time, clothes were made at home. Poor people are usually themselves, and richer people are at the tailors, by taken standards. Until the beginning of the nineteenth century, even military uniforms were sewn like this. It was only during the industrial revolution, when equipment for the nascent textile industry appeared, that mass tailoring became possible. Without mass sewing, there was no need for standard sizes... In the west, standardized clothing sizes began to be used during civil war in the United States between North and South in the 1860s. With the beginning of the war, the need for military uniforms increased sharply, and it was impossible to sew by individual measurements due to a large number orders. Therefore, the sewing workshops have created a size chart based on the volume of the chest. It has been observed that for most men, the volume of the neck, waist and hips is proportional to the volume of the chest. If the form did not fit, it could be altered. Later, the standard of sizes for menswear was adopted in civilian fashion. Sizes are not the only thing that fashion borrowed from the military. From the end of the Renaissance to the end of the First World War military uniform strongly influenced secular fashion. For example, the neckerchiefs (pictured) were borrowed from Croatian mercenaries who fought in the French army. These scarves became the forerunners of the ties that are so widely used today. It should be noted that, despite the efforts of Peter I, the fashion for ties did not take root in Russia for a long time. Ties were invented with unflattering nicknames, for example "stranglehold". It wasn't until the twentieth century that men began to wear ties regularly. The fashion for light double-breasted raincoats, trench coats, also came due to the popularity of these raincoats among the British military. Later, during World War II, this fashion was adopted in a number of other countries, including Soviet Union where raincoats and summer coats were like trench coats.

Men's interest in fashion and the desire to look good were not always welcomed by those around them. Some fashions were even ridiculed, such as macaroni clothing. Macaroni in the seventeenth century was the name given to young Englishmen who traveled extensively, mainly on the Grand Tour of Europe. The Grand Tour was one of the obligatory attributes of the education of young aristocrats in England and lasted from a year or more. During this time, travelers managed to get acquainted with France, often with Italy, as well as with a number of other Western European countries. Macaroni imitated European fashion and wore extravagant clothes and accessories, often inappropriate, in the opinion of others. They could be seen wearing huge wigs adorned with a small cap on the top. They laughed not only at their manner of dressing, but at their behavior in society. Later, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, macaroni was replaced by dandies - aristocrats striving for sophistication not only in clothing, but also in lifestyle. In the beginning, they were also not taken seriously, but later they began to respect their manner of dress. One of the famous dandies was Oscar Wilde. From the seventeenth century in English language began to use the word fop (fop), meaning "dandy" or "dandy". As in the Russian language, this word is used in a negative context, and denotes men who are overly concerned about their appearance. Men are still sometimes called "fops", although now this is not always a negative assessment of their behavior. Even Johnny Depp is called "fop" by some for his unusual style. Recently, a new word has also emerged to describe fashion lovers: "metrosexual." Metrosexuals take care of themselves and care not only about fashion, but also about appearance in general, for example, about beautiful and healthy skin, hair, and so on. These men mainly live in big cities and follow the latest fashion more than many other men. Many consider all of these men, from macaroni to metrosexuals, to be overly feminine. They are often associated with gays, although metrosexuals themselves claim that fashion and sexual orientation not related.

Men today express their interest in fashion in different ways. Someone is using unusual accessories such as a whisk and a bicycle helmet in this photo. Someone is wearing clothes that are popular among representatives of subcultures such as goths or steampunk. Often this fashion prevails in certain areas of the city, the so-called hangout places of these groups. Sometimes people dress like this can be seen outside of these neighborhoods, such as this steampunk-dressed gentleman in this photo taken in Manhattan.

IN recent times more and more men buy their own clothes. According to a recent social survey, the number of clothes women buy for men in last years decreased compared to the total number of purchased men's clothing. However, despite this, the total number of purchased women's clothing, as well as stores selling it, far exceeds the number of men's clothing. That is, on this moment women are much more interested in fashion and clothing than men.

The sizes of men's clothing vary less depending on the manufacturer than women's, but still sometimes in different stores the same size corresponds to different volumes. Some stores sell clothes for men that are above or above average. This is similar to plus sizes for women.

Flattering dimension

Recently, some shops have started selling undersized clothes. For example, if in most stores a person buys size M (medium), then in stores with small sizes, his size will be S (small). This is to make shoppers think they are slimmer than they really are, feel more confident, and come back to the store again and again. Usually deliberate affixing of smaller sizes by the manufacturer occurs in women's clothing stores, but more recently this phenomenon can be observed in men's clothing stores. This happens especially often with trousers. Previously, the waist was always matched to the size of the trousers, but now this is not always the case. How these sizes differ, and whether they differ at all, depends on the manufacturer.

Costumes

Over the past several hundred years, men's suits in Europe and America have changed a lot, and have become popular in many countries around the world. A suit is a set of outerwear, consisting of at least trousers and a jacket, and sewn in the same style from the same material. This kind of costumes have been adopted quite recently. Before that, men wore long black or colored frock coats or tailcoats with light pantaloons. Waistcoats, hats and gloves complemented the toilet, and were required attributes. The length of the jackets was gradually shortened, bright colors were replaced with more strict ones, laces and bows disappeared. Simplified version ceremonial clothes at first they were worn only during sports or in an informal setting, but gradually it became ceremonial, and home clothes were even more simplified. So, for example, the tuxedo has evolved from more casual to formal wear.

The size of the suits is determined by the volume of the chest. The sizes below are measured in centimeters and correspond to the sizes in the CIS countries, Italy, France and Japan. First, measure the circumference of the widest part of your chest with a tape measure. Add two centimeters for a loose fit. By dividing this value in half, you get the size of the jacket. In America and Australia, size is measured in inches, one inch is added, and this value is used, rounded to the next even number without dividing it in half.

Muscular men, or those who wear large sizes, can find their chest volume in another way. The size of the chest is not measured under the arms through the armpits; measure the body, and hands pressed to it. That is, you can imagine that the pressed arms are part of the body, and measure the widest volume of the arms and body together. This size is rounded and subtracted about 15 centimeters, and then halved. For size in inches, round the resulting volume and subtract 6 or 7 inches from it to get an even number.

Many converters, including this one, convert US units to European units by simply adding 10 to the US size. As you can see from the calculations above, this is not entirely correct. The calculations are approximate, they can be used when going to the store in order to have an idea of what size should be tried on. For online purchases, you need to find your breast volume, add 2 centimeters or an inch to it and write down this value. After that, you can calculate your size, as described above, but since the sizes can sometimes be smaller, depending on the manufacturer, it is safer to check your size against the size table provided by the seller. If there is no such table, then you need to ask the seller about the sizes.

Jackets can be of standard length, or sold not only by chest volume, but also by length:

  • Size S (Small) - For men shorter than 170 cm (5'7``)
  • M (Medium) - For men between 170cm (5'7 ") and 180cm (5'11")
  • L (Large) - For men between 180 cm (5'11 ") and 191 cm (6'3")
  • XL - For men between 191cm (6'3 ") and 203cm (6'8")
  • For men taller than 203 cm (6'8 ''), custom-made jackets are usually made.
  • When trying on a suit, you need to make sure that it fits well. Signs that you have chosen the correct size are as follows:
  • The shoulders of the jacket should rest on the shoulders, not outside.
  • You can put your palm under the buttoned jacket, in the chest area. If more than one palm fits, or vice versa, the palm does not fit, then the jacket is either too large or too small, respectively.
  • When the arms are down and relaxed, the sleeves should reach the base. thumb where it is connected to the wrist.
  • The sleeves of the jacket should not completely cover the shirt; the cuffs should protrude from the sleeves of the jacket by one or two centimeters.

Shirts & T-Shirts

In many countries, T-shirts, T-shirts, sweaters and other similar outerwear sold in sizes from S (small) to XL (extra large). These measurements are based on bust measurement. The following are commonly used us size.

  • XS (very small) - 81 cm (32 inches);
  • S (Small) - Chest circumference 86-94 cm (34-37 inches);
  • M (medium) - 97-102 cm (38-40 inches);
  • L (large) - 104-112 cm (41-44 inches, depending on the manufacturer);
  • XL (extra large) - 114-122 cm (45-48 inches, depending on the manufacturer);
  • 2XL (very very large) - 124-132 cm (49-52 inches, depending on the manufacturer).

Shirts, also called shirts, are measured more accurately using the neck circumference and sleeve length. Below are the dimensions in centimeters for the CIS countries, France, Italy and Japan. To find the girth of the neck, measure it, round it to the next whole number, and add 2 centimeters so that the collar is not too tight. When trying on, it is advisable to make sure that one finger fits freely between the collar and the neck. If not, then the collar is too small, and if more than one finger fits, then it is too large.

Sleeve length is difficult to measure alone, so you should ask for help. The sleeve is measured from the base of the neck at the back of the head to the wrist. In this case, the measuring tape runs along the elbow, and the arm should be slightly bent - it is convenient to put it on the hip or waist. Usually this number is rounded to the next whole number, and two centimeters are added so that the sleeves are not too short.

US and Australian sizes are calculated in the same way, but in inches. Unlike European and Japanese sizes, the collar size in American and Australian shirts can be whole and half, for example, 18.5. An inch is added to the measured sleeve length from neck to wrist and then rounded to the next even number. For example, if the length is 32.8 inches, add an inch, get 33.8 inches, and round up to size 34.

Trousers

Trousers have been an indispensable attribute of men's and later women's clothing for many hundreds of years. In the beginning, men did not need trousers, and they wore long robes resembling dresses and men's skirts. It was inconvenient to ride in them, so since people have tamed horses, trousers have appeared that protect men from bad weather, but at the same time do not restrict movement. Pants can be the most of various shapes From wide Japanese hakam, reminiscent of pleated skirts (pictured), to skin-tight leather pants worn by the subculture of leather lovers. Some men choose not to wear pants at all (pictured).

The size of the trousers is determined by two dimensions: the girth of the waist and the length of the leg. Depending on the manufacturer, the length can be measured as the length of the product along the side seam (from the waist to the lower edge of the leg), or as the length along the step, that is, the inner seam (from the groin to the lower edge of the leg). In American, Australian, European and Japanese sizes, the length along the side seam is mainly used, and in the CIS countries the length along the inside seam is often indicated. When buying, especially over the Internet, you need to check which of the two quantities is indicated, and in which units, centimeters or inches. As with shirts, you need to add two centimeters to your measurements so that the pants fit loosely, and round up the result to the next whole number. Measuring yourself is inconvenient, so it is advisable to ask for help, or to measure your trousers that fit well. Then it is not necessary to add two centimeters. Typically, the label indicates the measurements obtained from the measurements described above, but sometimes the waist measurements on the label are designed for men with a larger waist circumference. Therefore, when buying over the Internet, you must check your measurements with the tables provided by the sellers.

Features of clothing sizes in different countries

The choice of the size of trousers, jackets and shirts depends on the country, and on the average size of the inhabitants of these countries. For example, in countries where most men wear small sizes, visitors from the CIS and other countries of Europe and North America find it difficult to find their size, not only because of pants that are too short or narrow at the waist. Even if the length and waist circumference are appropriate, the trousers may be too narrow in the hip, that is, the width of the leg. For example, visitors to Japan complain that the pants fit poorly or are too short.

Suits and shirts can usually be found in such countries, even in large sizes, and often, especially in big cities, there are shops for big and tall men. However, often the proportions in the construction of clothing, such as the ratio between chest girth, shoulder width, and sleeve length, are different. Therefore, it is often difficult to find a style with wide enough shoulders, long enough sleeves, or a wide enough armhole for a sleeve, and sometimes the chest circumference is too wide. Such shirts and jackets are either too wide and hang ugly, or too tight. In Japan, for example, this is a problem not only for visitors, but also for tall Japanese. Even in stores like Uniqlo, which have larger sizes, it is sometimes even harder to find a well-fitting T-shirt than dress shirts or suits due to the fact that many of them are too tight at the shoulders.

It is usually possible to find large size gloves in countries with small clothing sizes, but the choice of models and colors is limited. For example, you can find common gloves in Japan, but more specialized items such as gardening gloves are more difficult to find. This is probably due to the fact that there is little demand for them, since women are more often engaged in gardening there.

Underwear, socks, swimming trunks

Briefs and swimming trunks

Men's underpants are sold by waist size, but it is worth adding a few centimeters to this volume, and rounding up to an integer so that the underwear fits well and is not tight. The size of the linen depends on the brand of the manufacturer. Below are the approximate US waist measurements:

  • S (small) - waist 71-76 cm (28-30 inches);
  • M (medium) - 79-86 cm (31-34 inches) waist;
  • L (large) - for a waist of 89-97 cm (35-38 inches);
  • XL (Extra Large) - Waist 99-107 cm (39-42 inches);
  • 2XL (very, very large) - fits the waist 109-117 cm (43-46 inches).

These dimensions are also not the same in different countries... As with other garments, it is advisable to check the size chart provided by the manufacturer when shopping for lingerie. Some briefs are made from stretchy materials such as spandex - they will stretch even if you buy a size slightly smaller than your waist. But underwear made of cotton and other materials that do not stretch well, it is better to buy exactly in size, or even a size larger if you are in doubt about the size.

Countries dominated by undersized sizes also tend to sell undersized underwear. This is the case, for example, in Japan, although some manufacturers make lingerie and big size... Usually US size S in Japan becomes M, M becomes L, and so on. Visitors usually find medium and small sizes without problems, but in order to find large ones, you have to try underwear from different manufacturers, and sometimes even buy it in online stores.

Men's swimming trunks can be sold in size with a number, or from S to XL, depending on the manufacturer. When buying swimming trunks, like other clothes, you should accurately measure your waist as described above, and compare your measurements with the size chart provided by the manufacturer. Each country or region not only has its own characteristics in calculating sizes, but also in the standards of decency in beachwear. For example, “slip” or “briefs” swimming trunks popular on the beaches of the CIS are not worn on many beaches in North America. Such swimming trunks are often called in English "speedos" (pronounced "speedos"), from the word speed, that is, speed, after the name of the company of the same name that produces sports swimwear and swimming trunks. They are considered decent to be worn only by professional athletes in the pool. Instead of such swimming trunks, most people wear long swimming shorts, "Bermuda". Although on the beaches of some American cities and states, you can wear much more open models, such as "thongs". Before heading to a resort in another country, you need to check on the Internet whether it is decent to relax on the beach in your swimming trunks.

Socks

The dimensions of the socks in the CIS countries correspond to the length of the foot in centimeters. US measurements are the length of the foot in inches. For example, size 9-11 is the most popular size for European sizes shoes from 36 to 43, or American from 4 to 10. Socks stretch well, so even in countries with small sizes, most men, even those who wear large shoes, can buy socks on their feet. Even when sized for a smaller foot, these socks usually fit well. Also, in such countries, socks of large sizes are often sold in specialized stores. In Japan, for example, it is the ABC Mart shoe store chain.

Shoes

There are several different standards for shoe size. The Asian system uses metric measurements. It is popular in Japan (size is in centimeters), China and Korea (size in both countries is in millimeters). The sizes of men's and women's shoes in these countries are the same.

CIS countries and most of continental Europe use the mass scale system, in which the unit of measurement is shtih (German Stich - small measure), also Paris point The dimensions differ by one point, equal to 2/3 centimeters. Male and women's sizes are equal. Adult sizes start from 32. Shtikhmass (German Stichmass) is a measuring tape in the shoe industry for measuring the last and the foot, made of tape 7–8 mm wide. A centimeter scale is applied to the surface of the shtikhmass on one side, and a shtikh mass on the other.

In the UK and North America, size is measured in thirds of an inch or "barley kernels"(eng. barleycorn). One such grain is 1/3 inch. Imperial sizes start at 12, which is exactly 12 inches. To find the length of larger or smaller sizes, add or subtract half of the "barley grain" to them. US sizes are calculated in the same way, but they are offset by size. That is, US size 13 is UK 12. Women's American sizes are offset from British sizes by two sizes, that is, the women's 10th is the British 8th and the American men's 9th. To measure the dimensions of the right and left female and male legs, there is a special Brannock device, shown in the figure.

Mondopoint(mondopoint) is a size standard that is used in many armies of the world, since it allows you to more accurately describe the size of the legs, not only in length, but also in width. This dimension is written in length / width format using the average values given in millimeters. So, for example, a foot size of 270 millimeters long and 115 millimeters wide would be indicated as 270/115. Sometimes the dimensions in this scale are indicated in centimeters. Ski boots are also commonly sold with sizes on this scale.
