Viscose: what kind of fabric is it, description and photo
There are many types of materials for sewing, both artificial and natural.
But there is a material that belongs to synthetic, but is natural. This is viscose, which is called cotton or natural synthetics, artificial silk.
This is a very interesting material that is obtained from natural ingredients in an artificial way. In this article we will try to figure out what kind of material it is - viscose fabric, what it is made of, natural fabric or not (synthetics), how to properly wash it.
Viscose cloth is obtained by processing wood pulp, which is crushed and boiled in alkali... The resulting mass is bleached, pressed, then threads are formed from it. Viscose without additives is very thin, translucent, shiny, easily wrinkled.
Fiber is not used in its pure form, but in order to improve its properties, it is mixed with other threads and a variety of fabrics are obtained, which are very popular.
What is viscose in clothes and what are its features?
Manufacturing in Russia regulated by GOST 24338-80 and GOST 10793-64... Viscose can imitate natural materials such as cotton, linen, silk. This is achieved by varying the thickness and nature of the fibers during production. What materials are there from viscose?
Varieties, characteristics, composition
There are three types of rayon threads:
- textile thread, thin, fragile, used to make cloths from which clothes and household items are sewn;
- technical thread(or cord) very strong and thick, cord fabric is made;
- staple thread used for the manufacture of yarn, as well as artificial fur and carpets.
Viscose is mixed with both synthetic and natural fibers.
When added to synthetics, the material becomes more breathable and its appearance improves. Viscose to natural materials reduces cost and gives elasticity. Mixing can produce fabrics glossy and matte, dense and light.
- 100% viscose is very delicate, whimsical, wears out quickly may be damaged or deformed during washing. Clean - include modal, micromodal, bamboo.
- When adding a small amount of elastane (usually 5%), a well-stretching fabric is obtained, which is used when sewing clothes for different occasions;
- When polyester is added, "oil" or "micro-oil" is obtained. The resulting material is very pleasant to the body, fits the figure beautifully and is widely used for sewing women's dresses and blouses.
- Staple- another type, which is an elastic fabric that is resistant to creasing. They sew blouses, dresses, shirts.
- Tencel fabric obtained from the cellulose of the eucalyptus tree. Outwardly, it resembles cotton. They produce bed linen and home textiles.
- Acetate made from cellulose waste. Outwardly, it resembles silk. Acetate is used as a lining for outerwear.
- Cupra material made from cotton cellulose. Cupra is the most expensive and high-quality type of canvas, used for sewing elegant clothes, as well as evening suits.

With all the pros, there are also disadvantages:
- products capricious in care;
- without special additives, it crumples strongly;
- when washing things may deform, become less durable;
- increased wear when exposed to ultraviolet radiation, water and high temperatures;
- when sewing, the edge of the fabric crumbles heavily.
To improve the performance of viscose during its manufacture add various substances that improve performance... This is especially true when using viscose in the production of workwear.
Application for sewing workwear
Overalls should be safe, hygienic and comfortable for workers, to protect from harmful influences. In its manufacture, a mixture of viscose with other fibers is often used. To give additional characteristics, as well as to facilitate maintenance and extend the service life, the resulting canvases are impregnated with special compounds.
One of the best for workwear is considered to be one that contains 47% viscose and 53% cotton, and a blend of 65% polyester and 35% viscose... Products fit perfectly to the figure, have the necessary hygienic properties and elasticity. They are used for sewing uniforms for medical, bank, office workers.
Stewardesses work in overalls made of viscose materials. This clothes are ideal for indoor work... Due to the good fit, the clothes look elegant and the employees have a pleasant appearance.
Many employees are advised to wear viscose underwear under their uniforms. It has an anti-static effect, so the uniform fits perfectly on the worker. When processing fabrics with special compounds, overalls acquire additional characteristics, such as increased strength, resistance to dirt and crease as well as water repellent and breathable properties.
In addition to sewing workwear, viscose materials are widely used. Where else can you find products using these fibers?

The cost of viscose cloth is very different and depends on several factors, such as composition, density, variety, manufacturer. The better the material, the more expensive it is. The price for noble materials can reach tens of thousands of rubles per 1 meter.
Lining fabric costs about 250-300 rubles per meter, the price per meter of fine knitwear is 700-900 rubles, per meter of printed fabric made in China - 500-700 rubles.
Today viscose is the most natural material of all artificial... It has a lot of advantages, and thanks to the latest technologies and developments in the textile industry, soon there will be no shortcomings at all.
